Thank you Charlene and Kathy for the welcome. Char, yes Hudson is where I grew up. Hardly recognize it when I go back anymore. The very first post I ever read on the TOH site was from someone named "the bird lady of Hudson". She posted beautiful pictures of the area. I haven't seen her post in years. I also have a connection to Iowa, my family from Luxembourg originally settled in the far western part of the state in Audubon County in Exira Iowa. Mr great, great grandfather is buried there. Would like to visit the area one day.

Hi, my name is Janet and my screen name is pghjan. I live in SW PA north of Pittsburgh. I was on TOH Recipe/Cooks Corner since 2002. I'm so glad we all found this site. I have 4 children and 10 grandkids. I retired a little over 2 years ago. I love to cook and bake. I try to grow flowers and some tomatoes too but only in containers since we are over run with deer, rabbits, & groundhogs.
I have met many gals and their husbands from TOH, including Sue Stetzel, at get togethers in Grove City PA.

My name is Linda, I live in NE Indiana...grew up is SW Indiana. Moved here to go to Bible College where I met and married a wonderful man (it's been early 35 yrs) I am soon to be 59. We have two grown sons and 2 little granddaughters aged 4yrs and 16 months.
I spent the greater part of my childhood outdoors, we lived on about 5 acres, miles from any town, I had all kinds of animals from gerbils to ducks, quail, chickens, dogs, cats...well, you get the idea. I loved playing in the creek down the road, and spent hours watching birds and other wildlife while fishing with my dad in the rivers, ponds, and gravel pits in that area.
I joined Birds and Blooms board in 2006 so that I could post on the Bird-Watching board. I loved the photos that others took (I have never taken a decent photo of a bird in all my life!) I also like to help identify birds, and did some bird trivia and occasional games on that forum. It started fizzling out and we no longer had bird-watching, perhaps someone will start one up here if enough folks are interested.
My favorite hobby, though, is Gardening. I have always loved flowers and from Charlene and others from the old board I learned so much, and found a lot of great advise...I received lots of flower seeds and sent out some myself...I have beautiful asters, butterfly bushes, tiger lilies, blue bedder and other flowers that came from these folks!
My husband became disabled last year due to heart failure plus a long list of other ailments and a mental disorder...we are still waiting for Social Security disability for him, but that is a long process. I work as a Caregiver only part-time due to a back injury nearly three years ago that displaced a vertebrae in by lower back. The good news is I am finally feeling like I have turned the corner and have not had near as much pain ...and can now do more yard work than before, though I cannot lift very much and doubt if I ever will...still life is good, and I love my flowers.
Everyone have a great day today, Linda Z aka narnian

My name is Leslie, but my favorite people call me Mimi. I live in zone 8, near the middle of South Carolina, between Columbia, our capital, and the lovely historic city of Charleston.
I have 4 grown sons. The oldest will be 35 this year, and the youngest 27. My only daughter, my oldest son’s twin, died at birth, but I still consider myself to be the mother of five. I will see her again one day.
I am Mimi to 10, soon to be 11, ranging in age from 12 down to twin boys who were born the day before their parent’s birthday last November. Yes, their parents share a birthday, but now I’m sure they will only be celebrating the twins’ birthday from here on out. There are 4 boys and 6 girls in the bunch. Perhaps I should add that I have been divorced twice, but since the first was after 16 years, all of my kids have the same father.
In 2007 I joined the B&B board and, after getting to know these wonderful people, was able to travel to Bette’s gathering and meet many of them. I miss those who are no longer here and I’m so grateful to Bette for putting this together so my gardening friends can still be a part of my life.
Since March of 1990 I have worked in the Engineering Department of a company that designs, manufactures, and services braiding machines. My responsibilities have changed somewhat from time to time, but I basically create 3D CAD models and assemblies and the technical manuals that go with the machines. Often I have to handle computer problems also, and anything else that might be needed, whether or not it is within my skillset. If I don’t know how to do something, I have to learn. Lately the Internet and YouTube have been my teachers.
One day I hope to retire and be able to garden in the spring and fall, start seeds in the winter, and retreat to a cabin in the mountains during our horribly hot summers. Unfortunately my kids may have other ideas for how I should spend my time.

It says My Favorite People Call Me Mimi. It is what my GKs call me, and even a few others. Once I was on a playground with a few of them and was pushing DGD#1 and her cousin on the swings. When her cousin called me "Mimi", which he had done since he first learned to talked, my DGD quickly told him that I was HER Mimi, not HIS. LOL It was funny in a way, but I had to let her know that he had always called me that and it was perfectly ok for him to keep doing it. All of the kids at my oldest DGS's daycare when he was young called me Mimi, and I imagine if I am ever around GKs friends, they will too. I imagine the older I get the more I will become known as Mimi. LOL I even thought about changing by username when we moved over here, but decided not to confuse everyone here. But I am Mimi, not Grandma.

Leslie, check Charlene's post on the User Name thread. Seems like we can change our name to whatever we choose in our Profile.

Hi, I am Starshell aka Renee. I joined the B & B back in 2002 but was mostly on the Backyard Chat. I love flower gardening and have learned a lot with the posts in the gardening boards, but didn't ever post there much. Perhaps a little in the early days. With the different problems at the B & B with trolls, being moved around and board problems, I gave up trying to post there, but still came to read.
My DH & I live in NW Ohio. Our children are of the 4 legged variety. Right now we have 2 dogs and 6 cats. I had ducks for years until a mink came in the night and killed them all. I don't have the heart to get any more right now. Maybe in the future.
I have had the good fortune to meet a couple of the people on this board. I met Sunshine/Wendy at a gathering in Ontario and Bwatcher and Alma in Iowa at a gathering. And I do recognize a couple of other names here also.
I worked for over 30 years in the ready mix concrete business doing bookkeeping, dispatching and customer service among other things. I quit 1 1/2 years ago and haven't decided yet if I want to find something else to do or just be retired. My DH is a truck driver hauling local so he is home daily.
It is a sad day with the B & B site closing down. I met a lot of good friends there, but am looking forward to making some new friends here.

Hi my name is Judy, I am retired for 4 years now. Worked at a BBQ restaurant for several years doing the shipping of their BBQ Sauces. I live in central NY in a small town on top of a mountain. Lots of wildlife here and also birds, love my birds, do some flower gardening. Not as much as I once did. I do miss working in the dirt! I was on B/B and TOH for several years mainly reading. On rare occasions I do post. Happy for this new site and will be reading every day! Have to learn how to put my avatar on here now!LOL

When I saw NW Ohio, I took notice immediately because I am also from NW Ohio. I am quite close to Toledo. Might you be also? Every once in a while a fellow Buckeye will show up on one of the various boards we've been shuttled off to, but it is rare that I also come across someone from my neck of the woods. I'm glad you are here!

Will join in here..am from TOH and enjoy both cooking and gardening. We retired from th AirForce to west Texas after 26 years and many assignments. Thought our traveling days were over but we missed the traveling so at first, we just planned our own trips to Scotland, Ireland and, New Zealand. Then we discovered river cruises and after our first to Russia, were hooked. Have enjoyed the many places we have visited and keep thinking we want to go back to Europe but things aren't too great there right now so that is iffy. Have to thank Angela for talking me into this site..she has also been a great source for great books. Looking forward to being here and contributing.
