Rick I remember all those groups and songs. Went to a Hermans Hermits concert when I was 13 or 14. I guess I just told my age, lol. Were you a member on Birds and Blooms a few years ago?

Hello! I'm Ann from MA. We live in a two family house that has been in my family for 100 years. DH and I live on the first floor, and my mom lives on the second.
DH and I are retired. I was a 7th grade middle school social studies teacher...later I was also assigned to teach reading and language arts. I taught for 34 years and retired in 2008.
We enjoy light gardening. We have a perennial garden, and an herb garden. We also enjoy birdwatching. We frequently join fellow birders and explore Parker River Wildlife Sanctuary. Several years ago we purchased a scope and enjoy using it especially in winter when we scope out snowy owls and eagles. We are active members of our local senior center and visit there every day that it is open. We are unable to travel overnight at the moment because I don't want to leave mom alone. So I'm a "stovetop" traveler...love to make different recipes from many cultures. DH enjoys cooking, too. I'm a volunteer field editor for Taste of Home. That means that I develop and review recipes and give cooking advice when I am able. I read cookbooks for pleasure!!! DH and I also read lots of other genres.
I am excited for this new venture, and hope to make many friends! Waving!

Hi! I am known as margba(Marg) from the old boards. Started out in birds&blooms in 2009,then toh and now both those sites have ended or soon will end! I am 65. Grew up in eastern PA in a Philly suburb, then moved to Lancaster, PA where I have been since 2001. I love Lancaster! Have msny wonderful Amish friends. I have 2 sisters, I grew up in an all girl family! Lol! My Mom died when she was 44 yrs old, my Dad remarrried twice after that. My stepmom is still living at the age of 90! Last wk she fell and is in rehab. She has had a tough summer, as she had to be in the hosp/rehap for a while last month. We dont know how much more time for her. I went to college. When I was growing up, my sisters and I were very active in sports, mostly swimming. I swam for 3 swim teams in my swimming days, incl college. While I wasnt the best swimmer on my teams, I did pretty eell. But my younger sister WAS one of the best! My summer league team was undefeated every yr I swam for it. My high school swim team ended up being undefeated my sr yr and we won state! So did our boys team! I love to brag that old team mates/friends of mine have gone to the Olympics in swimming. One of our team mates got a gold medal back in the 60s, another won a bronze medal, and then there was our Tim McKee who swam in the Munich Olympics. He had the misfortune to always have to go up against Mark Spitz! Lol! Timmy got a number of silvers, though and 1 gold in a relay event! Some of my fb friends are childhood friends I was on swim team with! Currently I have a small condo in Lancaster, PA. I am not so big on growing flowers but more of an avid veggie gardener! I have very little space here for either types ogpf gardening! But I give it my best! Veggies have been slow in coming in this yr! Enjoyed all your stories!

Hi, I'm Lilymouse and have been without an Internet connection since last Thursday evening. For an addicted computer chat person, that is worse than starvation!
I am an old timer on the TOH site and so glad we are back together again. Thanks a million Bette! I am 83 yrs. old and was widowed 18 months ago after being total caregiver for 5 years of my DH with Alz. We were married over 62 years. Three sons and one DGD. We had a farm in extreme SE MN, but signing the final sale papers next week. I will be moving to a Sr. Citizen apartment in a neighboring town and will miss my country life tremendously.
I used to love to cook and bake, but not much fun cooking for myself now. I am also an avid reader of cozy mysteries and have read 91 so far this year. I was more of a gardener when younger! I moved to the Gardening Chat site, as I wanted more conversation than a TOH site I had been a member of since before 2000! I found I am a Neighbor of Charlene and Larry (17 miles is close in the country!) and through them have also met Kathy from S.D.
Going to miss chatting next week, until I move to the apt., as I'm living with a son/DIL until Labor Day and they have no Internet! I will try to chat during visits to the library. It will take a few days to get used to this site. These "old" gray cells don't absorb like 50 years ago! LOL Lily

Good to see you again Lilymouse. Hope your move goes smoothly! Can you take your pets with you? I'm sure it will take some getting used to but it should be a lot easier than being so far out in the country, especially once the seasons change again.

Hello everyone
My name is Carol and I live in Lancaster, PA. Was married for over 25 years, my husband passed away 22 years ago from cancer. We had a large garden and yard but after his death it became too much to take care of and work full time. I moved into the city and had a house that had a nice size yard so I was still able to have a garden and lots of flowers.
I now live in a senior living community in an apartment. I moved here after my retirement. I have a balcony so can still have some pots of flowers but I do miss the flowers in my yards. I worked in long term care for most of my life, started as an aide right after I graduated from high school then went to LPN school. I worked in numerous nursing homes in the Lancaster area but was finding it taxing on my body, there is a lot of lifting and I am not that big so took a job as the director of medical records in a nursing home that I worked at for over 25 years.
I have three sons and 9 grandchildren ranging from 14 years to a the youngest who will be two in December.

My name is Lair, I would love to tell you a wonderful story about myself but this is supposed to be the truth. I moved here to Iowa in 2000 from Colorado where I was a contractor for 24 years. Now I live in a big old house just miles from the line where Iowa, Wisc.& Ill. meet at the Mississippi river. Dubuque, Iowa.
I am 70 years old and live in a large old home(1863) on almost 2 acres right on the edge of a small Iowa town. I mow or have someone mow the entire yard and have several large flower beds. I have 2 raised beds (4'X40')) where I grow all my vegetables. I added a Green house on the back of my home where I start all my own or most of my seedlings. I keep most of my flowering plants in there to over winter them. From March until May I have about 10 flats of seedlings going. I am on oxygen so I have limitations on what I can get accomplished in the yard. My hobby is building bird houses that look like houses I have lived in or some homes I worked on when I was a contractor before I retired and moved here to Iowa. Before that I lived in Denver, CO but was born in Minnesota. I work on the bird houses during those cold winter days when I can't get outside. Always something to keep me busy. OH my sister is Charlene, the smartest woman in the world. Check out my pictures at

Hi all, My name is Connie Eggen and I now live in Papillion Ne but was on the old chat site since I think 2001. Married to Al for 53+ years and have 4 children, 3 girls and one son, 6 grand kids and 3 great grands. We lived at Gretna, Ne on an acreage when I got my first computer and shortly after that I was on the internet some. In 2003, we sold our acreage and moved to Warsaw, Mo., on Lake of the Ozarks and I tried to garden as best I could with the little hauled in soil we were able to buy. The lake is an old river bed and along that river are lots of high rock walls and the soil is very rocky so gardening at that particular location was hard. I did manage to have quite a few flowers however...veggies were not grown there. After having my second heart surgery in 2009, we moved back to Nebraska to be near good medical care and that is where we are now. I set about digging new flower beds at this place and may have overloaded myself. I am thinking of planting shrubs in place of the iris that are having a hard time. As I age, my energy level seems to be draining so who knows where it will go from here. Spring comes and I cannot stay out of the plant places and have to bring things home with me. I have been a member of a garden club for the past 20 years or more. I joined thinking I would learn a lot but I also share a lot there. I have met many wonderful people on this site and I hope with this new site, to be able to spend more time here. Thanks for sending me the invite to the new site. Hoping this site continues to do well and to grow with more gardeners.

A little bit about me - retired for several years, living with my hubby (also retired) in a house we built (had built) close to 10 years ago on 25 acres in Eastern Ontario. We moved from the big city to a sleepy little town of about 4000 on Lake Ontario. The town is a very popular resort in the summer months but reverts to quiet and sleepy after Labour Day. Lots of wineries locally inspired hubby to grow his own grapes and attempt to make his own wine. We have gone thru the wine making process a few times now and have improved from red wine vinegar to questionable wine. Certainly it is alcohol but. . . He also makes our own wine from the boxed kits available these days and has made some very smooth, palatable brews. We have one son, in his late 40s who is getting married for the first time next month. No grandkids. Hubby and I are both very involved in our local curling club which keeps us out of mischief from the middle of September until the end of the season in April. Summer months will find us both either in the garden or on the golf course. I do some volunteering for the local hospital auxiliary and the Festival of Trees . we run a bake sale every November for the FOT so we pickle anything and everything it seems, makes jams and chutneys all summer and fall and bake like crazy come November. Last year our little group at the FOT raised $7000. I find both gardening and cooking very relaxing, love to read and do quite a bit of knitting, again for the local hospital auxiliary.
