Hello everyone. I have followed Birds & Bloom for years. I am married with one grown son. I am 71 years old. I was a farm girl from Indiana, but we have lived in Pennsylvania for about 30 years. I am not able to plant flowers anymore, but I had planted all of my flower beds to come up every year so we still enjoy them. DH cleans them up for me in the spring. I have been retired for 3 years. We go camping in the spring and fall. Too hot right now to go. I enjoy reading all of the postings so will be back. Have a good evening.

Ok I will start again. Posted when the board first started and never got back. Obviously I live in Illinois, way North, almost to the Wisc. state line. So I am a Midwesterner. I am gkids3il but you can just call me gkids. I guess you can tell by my board name I have 3 gkids, ages 14, 17 and 20. We have one son, 50 yrs old who is married and the father to the 3 gkids. Hubby and I celebrated our 52nd wedding anniversary this past April. Have lived in our current house, which we had built, for 45 years. We are both retired. Hubby finally retiring last year. He retired from his "real job" when he was 53yrs old after having enough years in for full pension. After that he worked several part time jobs until finally deciding to stop working last year.
I was pretty much a stay at home Mom for most of our son's childhood years. I always liked the medical profession so while at home I went back to school for Medical Transcription, when ds graduated from hs I found a part-time job doing Med. Trans for the doctors and radiologists at an immediate care clinic. Ended up working there full time for many years. Dh and I liked to travel and did many day, week-end trips and even spent a time during the winter months in AZ. Because of dh medical problems a few years ago we gave up going to AZ to be closer to home and his Dr.
I enjoy being out doors and used to garden and had a lot more flowers then I do now. Seems traveling and life got in the way of that so I just enjoy the few flowers I have now. I do enjoy watching the birds that visit our yard, had to stop feeding them because we had several chipmunks invade the feeders, not to mention the squirrels. But I do have a bird bath out that I keep full and like to watch the visitors drink and splash the water out so I'll come out and fill it up again.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it. :)

I wanted to say "WELCOME" from NW Ohio to some of our new friends that I haven't had the chance to chat with yet. It has been such a whirlwind being here on the new site, I decided to wait to comment, and then time got away from me. DH is starting to wonder about how much time I am spending on the computer. LOL! Needless to say, he never had that problem with me when we were on the TOH forum, or the last version of the B&B board. :D @willijean, I LOVE your siggie! I was raised with horses growing up because my mother was a horse lover her whole life. I like to look at them and appreciate their beauty, but that is it for me. sonny2u2, sweetgum52, and annrms waving at you all, and I want you to know that I am very happy you have been joining us. happycooker, it is nice to have another Midwesterner in the group! @pghhan, we have what I would say is more than our fair share of rabbits around here also. Little stinkers! We also have chipmunks and squirrels to drive us crazy. I container garden also. I am really getting to like it. fluffyones, I am a fellow bird enthusiast. My favorite reason for gardening is for the birds and wildlife. I enjoy birds at my feeders, but I most appreciate it when they are enjoying the flowers that I have planted, which was mostly for them. pippin3, your travels sound very exciting! I would like to one day visit Ireland. I feel a real pull to that country, maybe because my 2x great-grandparents came from there in 1850. Additionally, I am curious about your trip to Russia. I cannot imagine what that was like. I am fascinated by the architecture there, and after watching the mini-series War and Peace, Russian history intrigues me as well. Can't say I'd ever be brave enough to travel there now, though. I guess that goes for most places overseas. My kids, however, go as they please. Our son and daughter-in-law went to Guatemala in the spring for one of his high school classmate's wedding. I couldn't believe it! It is a small world to them. robbie, you have lived all around me having been in both Indiana and Pennsylvania. I'm sure you are glad now that you planted so many perennials in your yard. I've been working on that myself. It has come in handy since I really cannot garden in the ground anymore. gkids3, congratulations on your fairly recent wedding anniversary. Fifty-two years is impressive! It sounds like we have a bit in common. I also waited until our son was older before I began working outside of the home. I waited to go back to school, though, until he was a freshman in college. That year we had our two kids and myself in school. I'm happy to hear that you enjoys birds. Maybe we can sweet talk Bette into setting us up with a board dedicated to birding!?! ;) I think I am caught up now. I'm glad to have you all visiting with us on the new forum. It is always nice meeting new people and making new friends!

Luv, we really enjoyed Russia...Moscow is the largest parking lot in the world but the trip was great. As we have found in every country where we have lived or visited, one to one, the people are very nice, welcoming, and happy to talk to you. It is when our politicians get involved that things change. We were on the last cruise to go to Russia before the winter set in so we had all of the sites to the 100 of us on the cruise..Can you imagine having the Hermitage to wander around in all day with no crowds pushing and shoving? And the small villages we visited were delightful. People could not have been nicer. Our other favorite cruise was the Passage to Eastern Europe...the Eastern bloc countries are trying so hard to build up their tourist industry and doing a great job. Just take a look at the Viking River Cruise website and you will see why we enjoy them our very favorites are the Christmas Markt trips but will save them for another time.

I am Ladybird. My stepdad gave me the nickname when I was 10 and that was 50 yrs ago. Joined the byc on B& B in 2000 and last time posting was right after my husband Webb died in 07. Someone made a nasty comment a year after his death that I wasn't moving on so I never went back. Silly now. LOL

You really were missed by many on the B&B board after you left. Nobody has the right to decide how someone grieves a heartbreaking loss. It ticks me off when people behave as if they do have that right. ;-|

Back then the grief was fresh and everything hurt. Years have softened it and am not so sensitive anymore. LOL.

Hello. I'm sweetgum. I live in Georgia. Have 3 children, one dd, and two ds. I do small veg garden. Never been able to grow flowers. Just don't have green thumb. I do enjoy reading and seeing people flowers and wonder how. Roses are my favorite flowers, so will try to plant some this coming spring.
Also still work full-time.

Hi Sweetgum! Thanks for your story. This winter many of us start our veggie and flower plants from seed. It is an infectious disease we affectionately refer to as "SSD" or seed starter's disease. Even though you think you don't have a green thumb now, you just might acquire one ... one never knows. :D
Best of luck with your roses next spring!

Ladybird, sorry about your lost, he'll always be in your memory.....Pippin3, We also love to travel, but now with all the problems at A/Ps and some taking it against the tourists, I'm thinking hard about doing it, besides, even though DH has his heart set in N.Zealand/Australia, his knee is not up to running around the world... For the moment, our Calif.Coast is good, maybe going back to the north, Oregon/Washington states, and probably in Oct. to Warwick, N.Y....Some friends are going to S.Africa + more in Sep for one of our International Conventions, hope everything it'll be fine for them... Welcome everyone!!

It has been a few days since I have had time to read these stories, so I am taking the time to do so. I want to welcome all of you to the new board!
pghJan/Janet...Nice to meet you and learn a bit about you. A few from our flower board met Sue at a flower gathering in NY in 2013.
Linda and Leslie...I have known both of you for a number of years, but your story here enlightened me to a few new facts about both of you.
Starshell/Renee...Welcome. I didn't frequent BYC much, but I did attend one of their gatherings in Coralville IA....is that the one you were at? If so, perhaps we met.
Fluffyones/Judy..Nice to have you on board. The only time I visited NY was at the gathering at Bette's. Perhaps you can wave to her on her mountain from your mountain...lol.
Pippin...I am envious of all of your travels. They sound intriguing. When we used to go to Mexico, I loved going north of Puerto Vallarta and visiting the small towns. The people were so friendly. They spoke no English and I spoke little Spanish, but remembered enough from high school to be able to communicate.
Robbie...nice to hear your story and have you here. It was smart of you to plant perennials when you did so you can still enjoy them.
Gkids...lol about your story and sticking to it. Littleva from this board also lives in Ill and just a few miles from the WI border. Wonder if you are neighbors? Kudos to you for pursuing your dream at a later age! I am sure you are glad you did.
Ladybird/Robin...I am so glad you joined us again. I have thought about you many times over the years. I understand about your feelings being hurt. Sometimes people do not filter what they are saying. Love your new siggie, too!
Sweetgum...I have lots of flowers. I also love roses, but those I cannot grow so I have accepted that and grow what grows best for me.
Looking forward to more stories. Charlene
