Hi I am new to this board. I live near Lincoln NE and am a retired counselor's secretary at our high school. I have been married to my hubby for 55 years. He is semi retired. Works 2 or 3 days a week. We have 4 children.
Two of my hobbies are gardening and quilting. I also enjoy reading. I enjoy reading about all the folks here on this board. Some I recognize from the other boards as well.
Blessings to all!

Hello all. I had been a member of the Birds and Blooms Chat site for a few years before going to the Taste of Home chat site. My screen name was Takyslaky, but I have changed that now…LOL. I could not remember my username to get back on here so I just registered for a second time. I am losing my mind here…UGH! Just too much on my plate lately. However, my first love is line dancing and my second is my gardens. I spend a lot of time in my gardens and not enough time in the house in spring, summer and fall. Right now it is canning time, and due to my wonderful gardening club, many of its members love sharing their bounty of garden goodies. Tuesday I will visit one of the members to pick up fresh raspberries and broccoli along with squash and beets. I have learned so much from my garden club, and many of our members love sharing their ideas and garden delights.
I live in a forest in Northeastern Wisconsin, and growing things in an area loaded with sand is challenging. I am always amending my soil every spring. I have garden wildlife to compete with which includes rabbits, squirrels, deer, black bear, raccoon and etc…if you know what I mean. I have found out what I cannot plant without a fence around it. I have adapted to what the wildlife around here does not like to eat, so that is the extent of my gardens although my Hostas do survive pretty well. I too like Melissa love the native plants and flowers that grow here. I have a drain field full of Wild Bergamot, Lupines, and Columbines. Magic Carpet Spirea is a native here and it is growing wild in that field as well along with Lambs Ears and Meadow Rue. This year I have a large area in front of our garage to get at so I sure will be busy come September with that so long as my landscape guy gets here to get that ready for planting. Lots to do yet and the summer is going fast. I too enjoy chatting with friends from all over the country. It is interesting to hear what gardeners are doing south of here and how much sooner their plants and flowers are coming in to bloom. We Northerners have a short growing season and we have to look at flowers and plants that will do well for us in a very short period of time. In the forest we have to plan to plant certain things at specific times so we do not get hit with plant funguses and such. Challenging as it is I still love gardening in the forest. I love the wildlife here too.

I'm A Tall Man! An Aqua-holic & now Tealbird. Since my name is Alma Tallman I sometimes go by A Tall Man and hope to do a news blip - Timely tips from A Tall Man.
I'm 80 and have just moved into assisted living and have a new HP computer. My computer was cleaned nd then when I got it home- it worked and then my phone line went out. So I didn't have e-mail or garden shed for 2.5 months. The gray matter clogged many places.
I grew up on a farm in SEIowa. Went to ISC - now Iowa state. We were the 100th class to graduate. Then they changed it to a University. That was in '58 and that was 58 years ago. Got married on graduation day, taught Home EC for 3 years - then had a year to adjust & then became a mother. We moved to SW Iowa and then had a son. Lived on39.5 acre farm - now part of a larger farm. 22.5 years ago I Chose Freedom and Frugal Moving here and getting rid of stuff was hard and too much stuff left and DD is coming Fri & I needed to have more done.
Love the new location, no steps, laundry, gathering area with Nu-Step are all on 6th floor. There are 7 other residents - one just celebrated her 105 BD. I'm addicted to plants, jigsaw puzzles, Aqua and have done wood carving. lessons 32 years ago - and had modified radical mammogram. Radiation for 29days and still cancer free. The year after I moved to town I got severely chilled- trip to SF SD. When I got back I had MG show up. Was a master gardener - but this MG is an auto immune disease. Myasthenia Gravis (grave muscle disease) I walk with a cane and tire easily- BUTSO THANKFUL to STILL BE ALIVE. Then `13 years ago I had a heart attack and got a stent in ad home and back to work 5 days later.
Forgot to mention - 9-7 - of 79 I was able to buy the local Singer Store from the company. I had been the sewing room teacher for 2.5 years and they asked me to buy the Store. I could sell and service machines and teach them how to get the most out of it - but no math or retail training- it was a challenge. I had a great time - but never made much money - but many friends. I still love to service machines - but can't order parts. 10 years ago I wasn't tired enough so I RE-Tired! One Ad lady said I kept people in stitches because I sold sewing machines for 25 years.
I really enjoy getting my 'older friends' here to laugh! My first year teaching my best student told me I was better than the other teachers - I was 5th in 5 years. Why, I wanted to know. She explained that for one thing I had the Gift of Gab! she said the other teachers were afraid to stand up and teach. OK, that is my story! Yawn --- See you all later - - if I can learn my way around here! Joined in 2001 Nov = so I'm an Ol'timer. Tealbird

Hi all! I was originally Cali, starting in 2001...then was cali-cynthia when the big change happened. Now just call me Cindee...my real-life nickname. Not too confusing I hope. I'm a Calif. native, currently living in the central valley where it's hot & dry. DH & I have been married 44 yrs, 4 DS, 4 grands....but all live far away. I miss being able to be a more involved Gram. Have hundreds of cookbooks, used to enjoy sewing, crafting, cake decorating, collecting certain china patterns, some antiques & vintage. Love my laptop now & being able to connect with friends all over. Hope a few of you remember me from TOH. hugs, Cindee

Hi everyone. I'm Bill and this is my first post here.
It looks like I am one of the few here who isn't retired.
I was born in New England, but grew up in Canada. I have lived in Massachusetts, Quebec, Alberta and Ontario. In 2000 I was offered a job in Washington DC, and I have lived in Arlington Virginia ever since. This is actually the longest I have lived anywhere in my life. I think I'm ready for another change.
I am here because they are closing the Taste Of Home boards, and this was suggested by some of the posters. I was known as Cookguy there too.Thank you for starting up Cookscrock. I will probably be doing most of my posting there. I feel a little guilty posting on a gardening board. I know nothing about gardening.
I actually don't do a lot of cooking, but somehow it has become my responsibility to host holiday and birthday dinners. So when I do cook, it's a production. I look forward to getting to know you all better.

Welcome from NW Ohio, Bill! Absolutely no need to feel guilty posting anywhere here. Gardening knowledge is not necessary to spend time with us. I hope you will join us, but if you feel more comfortable on the cooking board, I understand. When I first joined on Birds and Blooms, I tried to post on everything that interested me - birds, hummingbirds, butterflies, and gardening. I ended up mostly posting in the gardening section because I felt most comfortable there, and if I gardened right, I'd have plenty of the birds and butterflies coming to my yard.
Thanks for introducing yourself!

LOL See you around the neighbourhood.

A big welcome to Julie, Alma, Cindee and Bill! I have met Julie and Alma several times so I do know them and glad to see you guys here at last!
Cindee and Bill...glad you made "the trip" to this new site. You are probably more comfortable posting in the cook section just as I will post mostly in the garden section, but there are no rules that say we can't do both. Hope to see more posts here from both of you. Charlene in NE Iowa
