Snowwolf's was exactly like my grandma's except it was a little too sweet so I will half the white sugar from now on. I was just looking at Snow's recipe and was wondering if the 1/2 c. Cream was all the liquid besides the eggs? Seems most bread pudding have 2 c. Milk or so. Thought I'd check with you before I try it. Thanks.

Hi! Sorry for not replying...I'm not always finding posts. Getting better at it all, though. I don't do desserts, but I remember my Nana and Mom making bread and rice pudding. They both used the stale bread recipes. My Nana was more adventurous and would serve it with a bourbon sauce!!! (She also used to put bourbon in her baked bean recipe! I make that in a slow cooker now.)

Thanks, Kathy. I will definitely try it next time. Made my old standby recipe last night & that is what I had for breakfast! Seemed like it had all the right ingredients for a breakfast! 😊

Mine is in the oven now, can't wait to have some with half and half over it.
Pippens I think English muffins would be okay and might even be better than than bread. Let me know how it tastes after you make it.

French Bread Pudding
6 cup cubed french bread 2 tsp vanilla 3/4 cup raisins 1 tsp cinnamon 3 eggs, beaten 2½ cup hot water 1 can sweetened condensed milk
Put bread and raisins in baking dish. Mix all other ingredients together and pour over. (I put a few pats of butter on top)
Bake at 350º for 40 minutes.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Below is one of my Mom's bread pudding recipes...the other one is huge and made in a large roasting pan...calls for a loaf of stale bread...a dozen eggs...etc...probably more than most of us want to make
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Grandma B's bread pudding
2 cups stale bread cubes ½ tsp cinnamon ½ cup brown sugar 1 pint cream 4 large eggs 1 tsp vanilla 3/4 cup raisins (optional) 1 tsp salt (optional) 4 TBSP butter
Soak bread cubes in cream. While soaking, cream sugar and butter, beaten eggs, salt and flavorings. Pour mixture over soaked bread crumbs. Dot with butter and sprinkle a small amount of brown sugar on top and bake in large loaf pan at 350º until done. (approx 40 minutes)

I was looking on the net yesterday for bread pudding. Saw Paula Dean's "Best”. Was a little shocked at the amount of sugar, etc. Not necessarily low calorie! LOL Here is the ingredient list: 2 cups granulated sugar 5 large beaten eggs 2 cups milk 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract 3 cups cubed Italian bread, allow to stale overnight in a bowl 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter, softened 1 cup chopped pecans For the sauce: 1 cup granulated sugar 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, melted 1 egg, beaten 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract 1/4 cup brandy Read more at: www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/paula-deen/the-best-bread-pudding-recipe.html?oc=linkback

A question for you. In the recipes calling for cumbs, is it really crumbs & not cubes? I've always only seen "cubes".

I have had this recipe for many years, I think I got it from TOH...If you like bananas, you'll love this!
BANANA BREAD PUDDING
Ingredients
4 cups cubed day-old French or sourdough bread (1-in. pieces)
1/4 cup butter, melted
3 eggs
2 cups milk
1/2 cup sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup sliced firm bananas (1/4-inch pieces)
SAUCE:
3 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon cornstarch
3/4 cup milk
1/4 cup light corn syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions
1. Place the bread cubes in a greased 2-qt. casserole; pour butter over and toss to coat. In a medium bowl, lightly beat eggs; add milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Stir in bananas.
2. Pour over bread cubes and stir to coat. Bake, uncovered, at 375° for 40 minutes or until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean.
3. Meanwhile, for sauce, melt butter in a small saucepan. Combine sugar and cornstarch; add to butter. Stir in milk and corn syrup. Cook and stir over medium heat until the mixture comes to a full boil. Boil for 1 minute. Remove from the heat; stir in the vanilla. Serve warm sauce over warm pudding. Yield: 6 servings.

A question for you. In the recipes calling for cumbs, is it really crumbs & not cubes? I've always only seen "cubes". Did a quick double check on the recipes I shared thinking I had made a typo...lol. I have never made bread pudding from crumbs. In fact...I don't usually take the time to cube it...just rip off bite size pieces since that is what my Mom had me do when I helped her as a child. Maybe one of the more seasoned cooks can answer your question Angela. Charlene

Linda that sounds like it would be delicious! I will definitely copy it down and make next weekend. Angela I am sure it would be cubes but like Charlene I just rip apart.
