Larry is not comfortable with posting pics here, so I offered to do this thread for him. A few weeks back, I suggested that in the future we could remove the 5 Yews on the north side of our house and he could plant some hostas there. The next morning he was ready to attack the project. These Yews were here when we bought the house 36 years ago. Despite yearly pruning, they were quite big and the perfect jungle area for mosquitoes to live in. Here are the before pics (actually he had started while I ran to get the camera) ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ We worked for a few hours chopping and filling the pickup with the bushes. I think it was 4 pickup loads. This is after they were all chopped down. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ The next step was to cut them off to the ground. Our son said he would come over with his chainsaw when he had time. Larry didn't want to wait, so we borrowed my brother's saws-all and Larry cut them off. He then put some dirt, mulch, and of course a few hostas. I added a few coleus containers to fill it up. (I apologize for the pics being blurry...it was a very humid day and my lense fogged up) +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ We will work to perfect this area next year, but for now we like it much better than those big ole ugly bushes. Charlene (Larry's personal secreatary...lol)

Nice improvement there. They used big machines that pulled them out, here. Not planted - but brought lots of new good soil to get ready for the plants. Heritage House was a new tower in 64 and we went to the grand opening. This is the second remodeling and adding much needed space. It is a 14 acre plot. Never had any plans to come here. Come to open house in November. They keep pushing it back.

Looking Great. Hostas will be an improvement over the yews. Yews are so difficult to deal with.

Looking great. I, too have ugly shrubs I would like to cut/dig. I would like to put azaleas in their place. But by the time I get around to that project, I will be way too old.

That was a lot of work! When I did that, I had free help from my two kids. It is looking good, and just wait until next year.

Wow what a difference that makes! Great job!
With the many times I have been to your house I never noticed that door there. Where does it lead to?
I do not like bushes of any kind especially spirea bushes. I took them out at the last 2 houses I lived at and I have them all along the front of the yard and all along the south side of the front yard. I know I could talk my landlord (son) into taking them out since he don't like them either but they do provide a lot of privacy and I know son would not put a privacy fence up if we took them out.

Wow what a difference that makes! Great job! With the many times I have been to your house I never noticed that door there. Where does it lead to? Kathy...it is on the north side of the house by Larry's original hosta bed. The yews were so big they kind of covered it up. It goes into the basement. This picture shows best it's location since I know you are mixed up on directions at our house...lol
