What a difference that made. That sure was a lot of work but it looks so nice now. Years ago I dug out holly bushes that never looked good and put in the bushes you just removed. Now I'm sorry.
I have a question. Do you have deer there? We can grow hosta here but the deer love it. We call hosta deer candy. They won't leave it alone and will eat all but an inch or two.
Your garden is beautiful.

Looks very nice. You have a very big house by the looks of the last picture. We took out most of our shrubs this summer also. I planted flowers. It looks very pretty now. I didn't like to work around the shrubs in the summer and worry about a snake hiding under them.Hubby would wrap a steel cable around the base of the shrub and pull them out with the tractor. Worked real nice. Your flowers and plants are very nice.

Charlene, I have a couple of Boxwood Shrubs on both sides of my back gate. They provide a lot of privacy for the backyard and the patio. Over the years it’s not uncommon for them to get some little green bugs in the spring time. I don’t like to use chemicals in the yard with the birds and the dog around so I usually just wash them with soap water. I usually only have to give them a good washing once but this year it took several times to get rid of the bugs.
We try and keep them trimmed so they don’t get so tall and this year I must say my trimming job was one of the worst ever. So far everyone has been too polite to say how horrible they look.

I appreciated the pix, too. Been a while since I was there in the summertime.
Hosta Heaven? Looking better all of the time.

What a great job you both have done. It looks great! I also like hosta, we do have 1 area that the deer eat most of it but the larger areas near the building they don't bother. Love the way it looks. Your area will be beautiful next year.

Wow, that looks great, the 2 of you work great together. I don't think my DH and I could get that done in one day. I have to come up with some ideas for when the pool goes, not sure what, but it won't get done in 1 day.
Going to look very nice when it fills in.

Very nice job! I like it better without the shrubs. Gee, maybe Larry will let you plant a few shade annuals in there as well! lol

Look at all the rocks that man hauled too.
It is looking great and your flowers are lovely. I remember seeing pictures of your gardens before.

Thank you everyone for the nice compliments. It is nothing fabulous, but we do think it was an improvement.
Janet...we live in town, so we are lucky and don't have deer to deal with. I know others here have to spray all of their plants and flowers often to try to keep the deer from eating them.
MaryinMI...I am glad you brought up the rocks....I forgot to say that Larry had hauled all of them in from the rock pile at our dump. He has many of our flower beds lined with rock now.
Melissa...you know me quite well, do't you? Of course I will be planting shade plants or at least containers more suitable in size in that area. LOL Charlene

Well, I am wrong again. I said you wouldn't have room for many more Hostas but you found some. It looks great Larry. I know how much work taking out those bushes can be. Remember when I had the 150 around my house. You will miss those bushes this winter when you want to brush snow off those things. I hope you can deal with missing them. lol.
Great Job!!!
