Starting us off this early dark morning! It's pleasantly cool and not humid. Windows and back porch door are open...breathing fresh air is so great! Last night's "rollups" and tossed salad hit the spot. I found a flat bread that we like and use them for the sandwiches. They are Thin & Trim High Fiber(8g.) Whole Wheat ones. Each are 100 calories with 70% fewer net carbs and 9 grams of protein with no sugar. They come 6 to a package. I spread two with Dijon and placed ham and cheese on and rolled them up. Wrapped them in foil and put them in the toaster oven to warm and melt the cheese. We've also had them cold with tuna and chicken salad. Tonight's meal will be Usinger's brats from the freezer, German sweet potato salad, and a small side of "Three Sisters" succotash. Will check in later. Enjoy the day! Waving!

Good morning Ann.
We have the same cool air this morning - a mere 61F when I took the recycling out a little while ago. A welcome change to the heat and humidity! Today is supposed to be another pleasant day followed by a very rainy one tomorrow! We'll see.
I'm going to try my hand at making moussaka tonight as we have all the veggies I need from the garden. Haven't made it in over 40 years I'm sure and back in my 'youth' I wasn't keen on it but my tastes have changed and it sounds good.
Wonder if there will be any baby news from Betsy today.
Have a marvellous Monday 😊.

Good morning one and all. Today is National Chocolate Pecan Pie Day and National Bacon Lover's Day.
Ann, thanks for starting us off. Glad you are enjoying some cooler temperatures.
Tasty, I'm sure making your your moussaka today will bring back some good memories. It's funny how our taste changes over the years, isn't it? Enjoy.
Still no call this morning for work. If nothing comes in the next 45 minutes, I'll be off to the Amish Farm Market, then back home to do a bit of ironing that I didn't finish on Saturday.
Yes, hope we have Betsy baby news today! Come on Poppy!!
I've lots of nice fresh veggies that I think I'll either roast or saute and serve over pasta this evening.
Waving to all. Have a lovely day friends.

Chocolate Pecan Pie and Bacon -- all things worth celebrating, Lori!
Ann, I had a wrap last night -- I like the FlatOut Flatbreads -- with ham, leaf lettuce, and honey mustard. Good stuff.
Tasty, I have never had moussaka (in fact, just had to google to see exactly what it is!) but it looks good. Let us know how it turns out.
Cool mornings sound nice -- we might get a hint of that this weekend but right now, still hot and humid with a chance of afternoon/evening thunderstorms.
DS#1 heads back to Louisville this morning and then back to seminary tomorrow. Hard to believe it's been six years since he started.
School starts here today so the buses will be out and the school traffic will be busy!
No dinner plans at the moment. I have some leftover BBQ chicken so might just pull that out -- we'll see.
Have a good day, everybody ~

Good morning friends.
Thanks for starting us off Ann.
Lori, Wow! 2 hours of bike riding is a long time. I haven't been on a bike in years and recently thought of buying one.
Marlene, I'm happy that things have settled down for you and the farm is now off your plate. You deserve some "me" time.
Elza, I can't believe your DS has been at seminary for 6 years either. Time goes fast.
Tasty, Sometimes I make Moussaka for our annual block party. I use the recipe from The Food Network Kitchen.
I didn't see pot roast at the store yesterday so I made an eye of round with Yorkshire pudding, potato pancakes and French green beans. I also make a pot of soup (creamy turkey and wild rice soup). My friend Joan ate over. She recently did her DNA at Ancestry.com and found out she's not 100% German like she thought. Tammy, didn't you do one of these tests? There's another one called 23 and me that I'm thinking of doing.
Not sure what I'll make today.
Haven't heard from Betsy so I'm hoping that baby Poppy is here and she is enjoying every minute with her.
Anyone notice how it's starting to get dark a little earlier?
Enjoy your day.
Nancy

Good morning.
No Poppy yet. DDIL was not feeling well at all yesterday while we had brunch here that at the house so DS took her to the hospital. They checked her and said it was vertigo. Sent her home and bad news is she not even dilated at all yet. She had contractions all weekend, too. Due date is tomorrow and Dr. is Wed. so fingers crossed we have some rapid change.
I need to do some grocery shopping today. I am going to make a steak salad tonight.
Waving to all.
Betsy

Whoo Hoo! WE took second place in the Pulled Pork Competition. If you go to Allyson's Apple Orchard in Walpole NH you will see our picture! (And my jeep in the back ground lol) Brian and I were exhausted. I started the smoke at 9pm on Saturday night and he came from work at 11:30 pm and we finished it up at 6 am and put it in the oven wrapped up. Then we put it in coolers wrapped in towels at 9 and headed to the competition. WE pulled each butt as we needed it in stead of puling before hand and this turned out to the the key as every one else's was dry by the time they served. The guy who won had a lot of friends who showed up but he did have good sauce. He made a lingonberry (from Norway) sauce. Was really good. Brian go offered a job for a local BBQ place that is expanding. The owner loved his sauce and wants him to market it as his place. So it was quite a day. The guy said our pork was the best of the competition. I told him the rub was mine the sauce was Brian's so we both had to com work for him. LOL
Ann- It has been cooler up here to! Finally! LOL We had one butt left over so that is supper tonight!
Tasty- My son bought the stuff for moussaka but has not made it yet. I would like to try it. Let me know how yours comes out.
Lori- I love love love BACON So today is a good day! We were given a lot of fresh veggies from a friend whose gardened is overflowing as he says! So I have to use them up tonight.
Elza- I am glad you got such a good visit with your sons. I do hope you get some relief from the heat and humidity soon. It feels Chris(sipping her HC on a high with not much sleep! Good combination for work today)
well I had to go to a meeting so have been away from thisfor an hour. Others have prblably posted since I started! LOL Chris

Nancy- I have noticed that it is getting darker earlier and not so soon in the mornings. I hate it! LOL I love summer! When I lived in Hawaii (Maui) there was only 7 minutes difference from "summer" to "winter" Mostly the difference was the whales were in so it was "winter" LOL We had Mango season and not mango season! I want to do 23 and me too!
Betsy- I do hope you have a baby soon! LOL Poor DDIL must be so tired!

Chris I told you and Brian Congrats. on face book also! Was great you had success!! It sounds so good too. Do you ship????
We had over 5.5 "of rain last night. It all soaked in and my pump is not running in the basement even. Maybe will be later. I had to go check. Council Bluffs and lower levels of town were flooded also they got 6". I was going to go to city soon but will wait awhile now. It just was a steady light rain all night. Poor Red had to use his litter box!! Now asleep. He could not understand why he could not go outside.
I am doing my wash as I had 3 loads to do. So will have it all caught up. Then will go through another box of things that was MIL'S. What to do with it all no one left in the family at all.
Have a great day everyone.
Marlene

Betsy, Sorry to hear that DDIL had vertigo. That is a horrible feeling and being at the end of a pregnancy doesn't help.
Wow! Congrats Chris! That's quite an honor that they want your DH sauce recipe. I went to the site but I don't see you. I only see a picture of 2 guys under upcoming events.
Nancy :)

Good Afternoon all!
Congratulations Chris and DS, on your win. I think we have one butt in the freezer that we plan on taking over to DS's on Labor Day weekend.
I have not done too much yet today, then again, it is still very early in the day for me, lol. I got up around 9 and while I sipped on coffee I worked on the puzzle. I am more than half done, and may finish today. I got ready then dropped off brownies at the coffee shop. I bought some groceries for this week and plan on baking cupcakes this afternoon. I may try to make something else for the coffee shop, but not sure what just yet. Supper will be the ham steak and sweet potatoes that we did not have the other nights I planned.
Yes, I had my dna analyzed almost 3 years ago. I still get emails from 23 and me, regarding my health risks. There are also offers to participate in surveys if you want to do them.
I have noticed that it is getting dark earlier. I take the dogs out at almost exactly 9 every evening, and sure wish it would stay lighter longer. I will really hate it when daylight savings time stops.
Better go and get busy before I get too involved in finishing my puzzle!

Afternoon! Just got back from taking my mom for her labs. She has a prescription for pain pills that wasn't ready so I'll have to go back in a few days. Nothing is ever simple, is it!!!? DH is cooking the wursts; the potato salad is done along with the succotash. Chris- Yowza!!!! Congrats on your win!!! I've never had pulled pork! I did submit a recipe to TOH for "pulled ham shoulder picnic" that got printed. Marlene - With the rain we've had, our "drought" is over...for now!!! Tammy - I was going to use sweet potatoes for the potato salad, but DH wanted the regular so now I'm going to use the sweet ones to make a shepherd's pie. Betsy - Vertigo must be very concerning to a pregnant person since her center of gravity is off already!! Fingers crossed for a delivery soon. Nancy - I haven't noticed it getting dark earlier because I'm usually asleep, but I have noticed that it doesn't get light until 6am now. Time to check the mail, and do a few other things. Enjoy the evening. Waving!

Congratulations, Chris! Great photo. It rained and thundered something fierce this afternoon. I was bringing the recycling bin back to the garage when this clap of thunder about scared the crap out of me. I got myself back in the house in a hurry! I tidied up and took a nap and not much else. Quiet day. I had leftovers stashed in the freezer so had spaghetti and garlic bread again for supper. Pasta soothes the soul. Enjoy your evening. Sweet dreams.
