Good morning! I was awake around 4am this morning so got up. It's cool right now, but we have a stretch of beautiful 70° days coming! We went to the early exercise class and then to the grocery store. Last night's Octoberfest dinner was wonderful. It was a buffet with pork schnitzel, wursts, roasted German potatoes, spaetzle, braised German cabbage, sauerkraut, cucumber salad and lots of German desserts. We shared a table with another "D" couple, and had a great time. The saga of the bank continues. In spite of trying multiple times, we are unable to sign up for e-statements. Will have to visit the bank on Monday. A mailed statement will cost us $2! We will do the usual light chores today. Otherwise, no plans at the moment. Enjoy your morning! Waving!

Driving into the High Peaks 10-17-24
It is 35°this morning and is to be 68° with partial sun. The freezer still isn't down to freezing. I have an outfit that can come on Friday so looks like I won't be working on Friday so that mean I will have to work on Saturday. It is $100 just to get them here. Not sure it is worth it but really have no place to put a new freezer. I will call first thing Monday morning I guess and get them here.
My plans as soon as it warms up some is to spend the day outside. Before that I will go to the garage and shop to work.
Ann, love the sounds of the October Fest. You reminded me I haven't made pork schnitzel or spaetzle in a long time. If I can find a pork chop in the freezer that may be dinner tonight.
Chris, enjoy your day out with DDIL today.
Well I need to get minutes typed and sent out and get on with my day.
Have a great day.

Happy Saturday, friends! Didn't back here as I hoped yesterday. Neighbor on the next block, Mike, stopped by to inform us that he is seriously thinking of putting his house on the market; he said he feels that 3 storms/hurricanes in a roll since August are playing on his mental health, not to mention the cost, and he just doesn't know if he wants to deal with that at age 65. We sat for a while; DH made us all hot tea and got out my leftover chocolate chip cookies while we let Mike do the talking. We suggested maybe to begin by putting together a pro/con list on paper rather than trying to recall everything jumping around in his head right now. When Mike left, I think he had a better feeling and hopefully just us being another set of ears were a small help in the decision he makes.
DH was able to get his new Covid vaccine yesterday afternoon. Once again, he unfortunately has had a terrible overnight experience with insomnia, chills, and thirst. He has an appointment on-line with our insurance specialist in an hour and I'm not too sure how he's going to handle that with how he feels.
Ann, the other day you mentioned something about another food recall. I wanted to comment about just how many there have been---seems like every day or two that's something due to mislabeling, undeclared ingredients, listeria, or salmonella. I will be honest, it has me really thinking what I want to eat these days.
Due to something preventing me to add more to my post and all sort of windows popping open, I decided to post what I had and will continue with an additional post to follow---Lori

Gggggood morning. It's a chilly 54º this morning. Sweatshirt, socks and shoes, long pants, and a jacket was required to go out this morning. I woke up curled in a ball wrapped tightly in the blankets. It got chilly in the bedroom with the ceiling fan on. It was nice to have slept in until 6:30 this morning too.
All I did yesterday was sit with my feet up, and off and on I sat with the heating pad on my back. I would like to say that it all helped, but it did not. The floors need Annie so I won't be sitting all day. Some things have to be moved off of the floor so she can do a better job.
The wind yesterday was horrendous at 40 mph. No doors or windows open. A nice day and we couldn't open up. Today windy but 25 mph instead of 40, and another 76º day. My clean porch is a sand box again.
On these chilly mornings the coffee goes down good. I'm making more in the pot now. I don't increase the cookie amount though. hehehe
Wild rice soup for lunch and cream of potato soup for supper. It's soup weather.

Let me give this another try---me and computers just do not get along some day!
Ann, hope you and Bill can get things settled at the bank on Monday The German meal with the delicious items offered---yum!
Bet, sorry to read about your freezer problem. Hope you can get the service company out maybe sooner than Friday if they have a cancellation list, but then again that could mess with your work schedule. Good luck! Hope with a good weather day you can accomplish all your outside plans today. Oh yes, I like your picture today!
DH got through the meeting with our insurance guy one-two-three. He's gone to try taking another nap. Don't think there will be much cooking happening today. I have a few leftovers in the refrigerator later if he's up to eating anything. Soup maybe it---I have butternut and turkey rice.
Okay, going to give this computer a break for a while. Currently 73*, high listed today is 83*. Waving to all and again, I wish each of you a lovely day! Lori

Good morning all. Some of us would love to be waking up to temperatures in the 50s, mamma, but I guess it all depends on what you are used to. The sun is shining brightly here today and we'll be in the 60s. Sorry to hear that hubby had a bad night after his covid shot, Lori. You guys have a tough time with not only the illness but the shots as well. Hopefully, listening to your friend Mike helps him sort out his thoughts. What a seasonal picture Bet. Hope you manage to get lots of what is on your list done. It is a glorious day to work outside. Your Octoberfest supper sounds quite delicious Ann. Last night a group of us went to a local pub where a friend was performing and ate there. Not exciting food - I had a burger, hubby had chicken fingers - but it was good. Time I went and showered and got the bed made. It's almost 11am and all I have done is replenished our stock of muffins using up all sorts of fruit odds and ends from the fridge and freezer, getting rid of a few containers. I'm making a concentrated effort to use what is already here, rather than visiting the grocery stores. So far, so good! But, I have a long way to go. Have a great day, friends.

Lori, sorry DH is having complications from his shot again. Nice that you were able to listen to your neighbors concerns and hopefully give him some ideas on how to easy his mind a bit while trying to make a decision.
Mamma, sorry the heat didn't help your back. Maybe you will get some relief after you see the podiatrist.

Tasty, nice to get out with friends for some good entertainment. I have a feeling I will find it a necessity to not go shopping with the condition of my freezers at the moment. That is if I can find anything that I want in them. No cooking with the intend to store.

A nice quiet Saturday for a change, with no appointments or places we need to be. DH took the day off yesterday to work on grading and at the house, and he needed that. He's at the school today, still grading, and I've gotten laundry done and really need to get to work again on the insurance inventory.
I'll be checking the football scores later, of course!

Good Saturday morning friends.
Bet- What a day you had yesterday. Loved your onions! I could have just eaten both pans! I love sauteed onions! I hope the freezer stays running.
Lori- Sounds like a great Doctor to make accommodations for his patients like that!
Tammy- Those little Dutch Cookies sounds yummy!
Helen- Nice to have such a variety to choose from.
Elaine- I still like your temps compared to ours now!
Mamma- Glad the tire got fixed and you can use the cart!
Elza- I hope the show last night was good. I love The Sounds of Music! I saw a cake wars episode based on the 50th anniversary of it. Some awesome cakes!
Anne- I love Chanterelles! Such a good mushroom. I hope everything got straightened out at the bank. We have had ours for over 35 years and I would hate to change now!
Well Not much happening here today. Yesterday I slept a lot for some reason. I think this moving kidney stone has wore me out. Wish it would pass. Today I am going to the Rotary Club Penny Sale with my DDIL and a friend.
Have a great day all!

Good morning. A beautiful day here. I went to swim class and then spent a few minutes in the hot tub. 1st time for the hot tub since April.
Linda is back from Minnesota for just 6 weeks so we are now starting cards at her house on Saturdays.
Tonight, is happy hour at Cal and Karens but we don't have to bring apps as alot of people are going out to eat 1st. Dh is grilling barbequed ribs for us.
Ann- I miss those fall festivals. WE used to do the German one in Oslo and the turkey one in Hatton. Some real good food .
Bet- sorry about your freezer. I did have to laugh when you said if you could find something you wanted to eat in them.
Lori- I'm sorry to hear about your dh reaction to the shot again. Hopefully, by this evening he will feel better.
Tasty- I basically stick to blueberry muffins. I did get some frozen strawberries but I don't think I've ever had strawberry muffin.
Mamma- it was cool this morning but I am loving it.

Found out my computer had a low battery earlier, so that could most likely have been contributing to my problems.
mamma, sorry the heating pad didn't help with your back pain yesterday. Maybe another day of rest and relaxing is what is needed. Feel better! A few days back you made me laugh when you mentioned how the colors were changing in Arizona, but not the color of leaves, but license plates. That is the case here in Florida too---this year maybe a month earlier than usual when those that own places arrived after Debbie to check on damage caused with the flooding back in early August. Most of our colors we see in the winter are from the Eastern half of the US, but occasionally we will see a plate from as far away as Alaska.
Tasty, a muffin sounds delicious. I last made some back in July, so they are long gone now; I'd like to see if I could make some raspberry or blueberry this week if time allows.
Elza, hope DH was able to get his grading done today and you got done what you needed too. When are you expected to move to your rental house? Do you have any estimate of how long you'll be residing there?
Chris, what is a Penny Sale? Never heard of that term---all items for sale for a penny? Did you and DDIL find anything special?
Elaine, did your sister Shar ever arrive from up north? She has been on my mind and I hope the rest of her trip runs smoothly. Have a fun time this evening at Cal and Karen's.
DH got up after a 4 1/2 hour snooze in the lazy boy. He ate a small bowl of cereal and is napping again. While he ate his cereal, all he did was grumble how he doesn't like this vaccine and he's never getting it again.

Lori- A Penny sale is usually put n by your local Rotary Club. It is buy a 6 ticket for $5 and all the tickets go into a big barrel and there are 100 prizes. A ticket is drawn and the prize is given and the ticket goes back in to be possibly drawn again. There for a "penny" sale. Your ticket is eligible for 100 prizes

Wow Chris, that sounds like something fun and different. Nothing like that around here, but I think that I would enjoy that! Thanks for explaining!
Am I just missing it, but I haven't seen a post since I've been back from Jan in BC---I know she too has had some health problems. Hoping all is alright and maybe I've been blind as a bat! Lori
