Good morning friends.
Lori, After all these years your DH tells you he doesn't like sloppy Joes? lol.
Betsy, I know how you feel making 2 meals for kids who will be fussy. I always said I would never do it but I do. I guess it's because I remember my mother making something I didn't like and having no other choices. Thank God for the 2 dogs, they ate what I wouldn't lol.
Marlene, How is your foot feeling?
I still need to catch up with everyone.
Not sure if I will get to go food shopping today. DH hasn't had a chance to work on the car.
Waving to all.
Enjoy your day.
Nancy

Good morning. A dreary one here with rain this afternoon and evening. Yesterday I spent a lot of time in the greenhouses. Got one cleaned out and set up for fall, and the other one is almost ready to take down. Did a lot of cleaning up of plants that will come inside for the winter and tossed a lot of stuff that didn't get planted this year. Last evening I decided on dinner for tonight. Addison, DS and his SO will be here. We are having meatloaf, tater tots, corn and chocolate bundt cake with strawberries and cream. Since we are having tater tots I have to make them first. Started that last night. I have been working on this recipe for ever it seems. Have seen them made on TV in restaurant shows of course no actual recipe just different techniques and have read a lot of recipes for ingredients. I think this is my 4th try and am liking what I am tasting. Mixed them up last night and put them in the refrigerator over night. I am now shaping them and they will go in the freezer to set up until dinner time. It is a messy job. When you bread things there is the wet and dry hand. This process there is no such time. Had to stop after 20 to wash my hands. I think my fingers were about 3 times the normal size.
I never really cooked a different meal for my kids. They were good eaters and ate just about anything. However my DS was a brittle juvenile diabetic so any time I made a one pot meal or a casserole I had to make his separate to be sure he got the proper amount of carbs and protein.
Have a great day. Bet

Welcome back Nancy! Sounds like you had a nice little trip. Darn car acting up is no fun either. Hope it is nothing serious. Thanks to Lori for starting this while you were gone too.
We had a nice day together yesterday. Did lots of talking and laughing. After they left to go to motel I made a breakfast casserole and they are to be here at 9:30 ( about dinner time!) to eat. DS takes his time to get ready and wake up. Derek was adopted and is loved very much. So he gets spoiled a lot. That is o.k. with me. He is at the age where he is liking girls but they are his friends!!
When they leave today I have to go get a razor for FIL. We were just talking about all the razors he goes through and sure enough he needs another one!!Then would like to mow my yard. Will see what the day brings. Marlene

Good morning.
Sorry the car is acting up, Nancy. Glad you made it home okay. One of girls is terribly fussy about food. Sometimes I make her something different. I swear she only eats about 5 things. LOL.
Today we are grilling ribs. I started them in the oven yesterday. I will make mac and cheese and beans, too. Guess I need to think of a veggie as well.
I may run to Target later. Not my favorite place to go on a Sunday. Ours gets busy!
Have a great day.
Betsy

Good afternoon everyone. Just a quick hello to all! Spending another day in the kitchen. Made another pot of soup and another batch of egg cups, both for the freezer. Other then that, nothing much happening today. Dinner tonight will be a beef pot roast with vegetables (carrots and potatoes). Will try to stop by again later. Lori

Good afternoon everyone, Did not sleep well last night which is unusual for me so I was up about 5.30 and read for a while. Just started a new (to me) Jack Reacher story and needless to say, I'm hooked.
Had lots of rain this morning and now it has dried up to a dull but not unpleasant afternoon.
Tonight we're going to have a chicken marsala done in the slow cooker, with mashed potatoes and green beans.
Enjoy your day.

Good Afternoon, Nancy, glad your vacation was nice.....sorry you had car issues.... I hope they aren't too serious. Car problems and lots of rain are the two things that can really put a damper on a vacation.
Marlene, glad to see you are having a good visit with your family.....don't let too much time get by without a visit.
Sara, good to see that you have a strong support system around you.....so very important. Chris, I hope you are having a good time on your camping trip.
Tammy, hope the races didn't last too late last night as they can be very loud. I have enjoyed your pics and stories of you trip.
I have laundry to do as I need to strip my bed all the way down so that will keep me busy. The weather is cool so I am going to bake some cookies. We are having temps in the 50's at night....so nice.
There are serious fires in the West and flooding in Louisana and parts of Texas. To all those affected, please stay safe.
Cheers, Doris

I just got back from the farm where I let the guy that mows for me into the shed. I've tried to just give him a key of his own, but he says he doesn't want the responsibility. I also see huge patches of the very same plant I am trying to grow at home thriving in the pasture. So much for my green thumb.
It's really hard to get motivated to cook when it's only you, so a trip to the Dairy Queen is on for tonight.

Good Sunday, friends! Weather has been fairly mild and sunny, but thunderstorms may be moving in. I won't complain; we desperately need rain.
I got some black beans at the senior center last week and decided to make a recipe for Cuban black beans in the slow cooker. Delicious aroma...couldn't find a ham hock at the market, but found a smoked ham shoulder...small hunk so I went with that. Will have that sometime this week with a salsa and some meat.
Tonight we are having Philly Cheesesteaks with sautéed leeks and mushrooms, Provolone and steak strips on artisan rolls.
Nancy - Glad you got home w/o incident with the car...what's wrong with it? I remember driving home several summers ago when the "overheat" alarm went off...we had to turn on the heat instead of the AC to keep going...gasp!!!
Valerian - What-r-ya gonna get at Dairy Queen?
Marlene - I remember you talking about taking your DH to DQ to get a loose meat sandwich...his favorite, I think. I found a TOH recipe...yum...good, but I put a New England spin on it. Glad you and a good time with family. I hope I am not making you sad when I mentioned DH. Hugs.
Chris- My cousin goes to some campground close to the VT border...River Meadow campground...had a pig roast this weekend.
Doris - DH does our laundry...he did sheets yesterday...how blessed am I!?!? My niece lives in Littleton, CO and I have a good friend there, too. My niece went to Gunnison for college. I assume you live in CO????
Tasty - I was awake off and on last night, too. DH has this "thing" about reading in bed using a flashlight (so not to disturb me {who goes to bed much earlier}!! Anyway, five minutes after he comes to bed, the soft snoring begins, but the flashlight is still on...on the ceiling, the wall, in my eyes...! I count my blessings and roll over, but I'm awake!!!
Bet - ATK or Cook's country had a show on making tater tots...didn't look "messy" as I recall. I'll look in my books if you'd like.
Betsy - Haven't had ribs in ages!
Lori - Did you cook the pot roast in the slow cooker? Did you ever cook a "chuck filet" pot roast? To me, it looks like a tenderloin in the package. I love using it...slow cooker breaks down the cartilage in it.
Have to get a move on to making supper. Waving to all.

Hello friends ! Nancy, I hope your car can be repaired inexpensively. I remember once having to drive with the heater on during the hot summer, also. Not fun!
Marlene, so glad that you had a good visit with family.
Chris, glad to hear that your camping weekend was a nice one.
I have never tried homemade tator tots. We like the frozen kind well enough. I saw a recipe once and it looked like an awful lot of work. I bet they are delicious though.
I stopped by a real grocery store (Sobey's). I picked up a few pantry items that I was out of and picked up a package of pork chops. I looked at a beef roast-this store always has great looking roasts but they are pricey. The small sirloin roast was $17.00 and some odd cents, so I passed on it. Tasty, do you have Sobey's where you are? they are all over N.S. and P.E.I., and the other day we drove past the headquarters, so I think it is more of a local but it is a very nice store. I went to the Atlantic Superstore but did not care for it so much.
We had beautiful weather today. We drove all around the eastern half of the island. We stopped at several lighthouses and for lunch. We stopped in a tiny town at a restaurant called Harbourview and it was so good! They had sandwiches and salads, and also meals. DH got the scallops and I got the fried chicken. It was all delicious, and I got some PIE for dessert! Lemon meringue for me and butterscotch for DH. No supper needed.
As far as the races go it was tremendously loud but it did stop about 10. Bad news is that that was when the live music started. It was not even good music either! I went to bed around midnight and did fall asleep but woke up at 2 and still heard it. Woke up again at 3:30 and it was still going on. It might be that the music was from someone near us in the campground and not the racetrack. I'm not sure. I was still awake at 4:30 and finally I heard silence, then a car door, then a car engine start up and finally it was blissfully quiet!
I am enjoying reading Anne of Green gables so guess I will sit and read for awhile and wait for the closing ceremonies. I hope you all sleep well....I have a feeling I will!!!!
P.S. A really precious moment of the day was at the first lighthouse that we stopped at today. A family was nearby and we heard a little boy, about 4 years old, singing loudly "Shoulda Been a Cowboy. Just like Gene and Roy"... he was so cute with his jeans, boots and plaid shirt!

I might have gone a little overboard at Dairy Queen and started with dessert--chocolate and strawberry, too. I'm trying to feel guilty about it but so far it ain't happenin!

Hello again, Ann, I live in N/E Colorado Springs not too far from the Air Force Academy. Littleton is about 65 miles north of me and Gunnison is about 165 miles S/W of me. It is a nice little mountain town and the college there is very good and popular with students. The Black Canyon of The Gunnison National Park is there......it is a narrow canyon and is about 2000+ feet deep.
Chris, glad you enjoyed your get away and the ice cream.
Tammy, hopefully you will have a better night tonight than last night.......you had 2 difficult nights in a row. The story of the little boy is adorable. We still tell the story in our family when my youngest brother at about 4 years old crawled under the bench in church and began loudly singing "he is too old to cut the mustard any more". Mom couldn't get to him fast enough and was most embarressed as she hustled him out while the whole church was laughing.
Have a great rest of the evening....Doris

Nancy, yep, it took 35 years for DH to tell me he didn't like Sloppy Joe's---pretty amazing, huh? Marlene, so glad you got to enjoy family time this weekend.
Chris, sounds like you have a relaxing weekend.
Tammy and Doris, loved your stories!
Ann, I don't think I've ever seen a chuck filet, but DH knew what it was. Today I cooked the pot roast in the Dutch oven on the stove top.
I'm beat and need to go put my legs up for the night. DH just informed me that it is the closing of the Olympics, so I guess we'll watch that a bit. Wonder which one of us will fall asleep first in our chairs? LOL! Goodnight. Lori
