Happy Sunday Everyone, Another beautiful day here on the prairie. Rain is in the forecast for later this week and no one will complain if it comes. Late yesterday afternoon a friend and I attended a concert put on by the Prairie Arts Chorale. The attendance was sparse at best but the concert wonderful. Afterwards we went out to eat and had an enjoyable time eating and visiting. Daughter Beth texted me where I wanted to go out to eat and I replied that I would love tacos or quesadillas at her house. So I will go there. Does anyone have a tip on how to get rid of starlings? They have been decimating the bird feeders. If I don't fill the feeders all the other birds will leave. Marlene

Good morning everyone. It is 53º and headed to upper 80s. I am expecting it to actually get into the lower 80s like it did yesterday. The difference will be that we aren't supposed to have 30-40 mph winds today.
Yesterday morning I took Curt to DG and then started transplanting a few zinnias....key word being a few. I will work on getting more transplanted today. In the afternoon, I cleared off about 50 feet of one hosta bed. I found a 50 foot section protected from the wind. I got 3 trash cans filled. I also had DGS#2 come over and move his lawn mower so I could get my golf cart out and get it cleaned up. Late afternoon, I took it for a spin to make my appearance at the celebration of life gathering which was only 3 blocks away. I also hauled the 3 bags of refundable cans to the kennel downtown. I donate them to our junior community club since all of the money goes toward our swimming pool and other town projects.
I will read the posts from yesterday and may be back. Happy Sunday to all. Charlene

Marlene...Those starlings, grackles, blackbirds and cowbirds are big hogs at the feeders. They are the reason I had to fill my friend's feeders every day. When I googled the info mostly said to buy starling proof feeders, but not my obligation to do that for them. Enjoy your day with family.
Carol...So Ethel isn't good at carpets? I know both of my DGDs have those auto vacuums, but they also have all hardwood and vinyl floors.
Karen....Yay on figuring out how to use the blu-ray player. If DH is busy watching movies he has, he won't have as much time to shop for more....lol.
Gayle...I guess i must have missed the post where you said you had an eardrum burst. Have you considered hearing-aids?
Bette...Glad you got the job completed yesterday. What's on the menu for Monday night?
Leslie...I LOVE the pictures of DGD and her prom date. She is beautiful in that green dress with her pretty red hair! I hope she had a good time and happy that she participates in school activities. phone

Good morning. 35 but headed to upper 60s. It was 75 here at my moms yesterday which is crazy for April. We will be considerably colder this week.
Yesterday morning we did some things at home and then went for a nice 2 mile walk. Dh left at noon and dd and I left at 12:30. We were at my moms by 2. We made really good time as there was no traffic in front of us and my foot was heavy! Lol! We started working right away. I brought the sander and gave everything a light sanding. Dd swept and washed the surfaces and we started staining. We got the front steps and the balcony done and a start on the deck. We will be back at that today.
Dh made it to Helsinki at 5:45am our time. He messaged me at 7:45 that he was checked in to the hotel and was headed for some breakfast which will be dinner there since it was almost 4pm. Hes gonna have some serious jet lag!
Well the sun is coming up and it should be warm enough to start working soon. Have a great day.

Good morning grey and raining again. It may stop sometime today. Sure would be nice to see the sun.
If it stops raining I'd like to roll the lawn it was so bumpy when I mowed last week. I thought it was going to jar my back.
Have a few inside chores to get done nothing major. I may put the pansies outside they can handle the lower temps.
Need to call my dad for our weekly chat. It's short and sweet.
Leslie your GD looks beautiful hope she had a good time at the prom.
Have a wonderful day.

Good morning! Charlene…after the starlings and blackbirds feasted on my feeders, I called a nurseryman about feed that those birds won’t eat…he recommended Safflower seeds so I bought a canister for my new feeder. Absolutely, the big birds won’t eat them but the little birds love them! Might be a little more expensive but it balances out. I love these cylinder feeders. Just the regular ones last 2 weeks with the safflower seeds and the large ones that I bought last week will probably feed the little birds for a month. 89°for a high here today!

Good afternoon. After watching a church service from last Sunday online I started cleaning in the kitchen some, things like the microwave and pop up toaster. Getting all of the crumbs out of a 4 wide slice toaster has to be next to impossible. Next up I think will be the air fryer. I also washed and dried the dish towels.
Thank you all for the kind remarks about DGD's prom photos. She did have a good time. There was another girl in a wheelchair who went to prom also. Last night my niece, who is a teacher at the high school where DGD attends, posted a photo of her with her husband and DGD and her BF. I wonder what their son thought about his parents being chaperones at his prom.
Charlene, that's hot for you.
Hope everyone enjoys their day.

Good afternoon, had a big hole in the night and did not get up until 10. That has never happened before. I usually wake up at the regular time no matter what time I go to bed or have a hole in the night. Did not have breakfast just went straight to lunch.
I had understood the wind was to stop last evening but it is still quite breezy out there. The temperature is 72° and partly cloudy. I had been all sun but the clouds are arriving in a large number. With the breeze I need a jacket to feel comfortable.
Have a good day

Good afternoon. It was 33°when I got up this morning and up to 45° but not very pleasant out there. We had a little sun early this morning but just stepped outside a minute ago and it was trying to rain again. It is damp out there and it cuts right through you. I started cooking before 7 this morning. Have one batch of Spanish rice made and the second one is almost done. Not happy with the first double batch. I am use to making it with my home canned tomatoes but bought crushed tomatoes not knowing there were a thick tomato sauce not texture at all. The rice is way to tomato forward. The second batch I reduced the crushed tomatoes in half and added more water so hope when they are all mixed together it will be better. I have baked 4 pounds of bacon and have it all crumbled. I have the turkey almost all cut up but 1 breast is still a little to frozen to cut.. I still have to mix up the second batch of rolls this afternoon so I can bake them first thing in the morning. This is a pretty easy meal to put together. The dishwasher is almost full to do the second load for the day.
Charlene, nice that your friends got back home while you were there and you were able to visit with them for a while. You sure are making progress on your yard. I still have piles of snow on my beds and even if it was gone it is way too wet to do anything outside. Dinner tomorrow night is Turkey Divan, a tomato rice with bacon, dinner rolls and Peach Cobbler. All gluten free except the rolls. New experience for me but it really wasn't that hard. Doing it because of one of our guest speakers tomorrow night.
Melissa, you got a lot done and your beds and now all the work you are doing for your Mom this weekend. I know your DH's jet lag. When we flew to Hong Kong it was a 16 hour flight. I was up almost 48 hours before I was able to get any rest as I had classes to attend.
Marlene, enjoy your dinner with your DD. Sounds good.
Mary, you sure had a great day with your DD yesterday.
Carol, sorry for the hole in your night.
Good luck getting your lawn rolled. My property was farm land years ago and there are so many bumps there is no hope for it.
Linda, I live in the middle of no where with nothing but woods surrounding me and I guess I am fortunate as I don't have any of the pesky birds. Now squirrels, chipmunks and raccoons, that can be another subject.
Leslie, nice picture of your DGD. It is great that she is involved with such normal activities. She is one determined young lady.
Well this isn't getting the last of the turkey taken care of. However, I think the rolls are going to wait until morning. I am getting tired. Need to find something for my dinner tonight.
Enjoy your evening.

We are ever-so close to hitting the 80 degree mark. Probably will before the day is over. It was a gorgeous morning with plenty of sunshine and a slight breeze. This afternoon is a different story. The breeze has turned into a howling wind. The sun has also disappeared behind the clouds. It doesn't seem impossible that we will get some rain. Yet again, I have let a day go by without pumping the dang pool cover before more rain comes. Maybe it won't be much? I pushed through a complicated morning and made it to church today. I wasn't sure I was going to be able to with DH unable to focus on doing the things I needed him to do - like sit in his chair and stay there. I was very afraid he was going to try to shower while I was away even though I put a note on the bathroom door reminding him I wanted him to wait until I got home. He quizzed me about what took me so long at church, but he did not shower while I was gone. I had to smile when I saw him warming up the breakfast pizza I'd made for supper last night. I told him that my half of the pizza had asparagus on it and he might not like that. He has hated asparagus ever since I've known him, but he didn't mind it a bit on his breakfast pizza for lunch today. It's just one of many changes to his taste buds of late. I'm thankful we can still laugh and smile about stuff at least some of the time. My plan had been to work out in the yard today since it was to be so warm, but the wind has changed my mind. Nothing is too pressing out there. I was only going to empty pots from last years plant debris and stir up the potting mix with new stuff. It can wait. We can't plant outdoors until around Mother's Day anyway. There will be plenty of time. I am increasingly shocked by the size of the seedlings. It's taken me ages, but I may have gotten the timing right on a lot of my seed starting this year. I probably ought to get out of my church clothes and get the shower ready for DH. He's been pretty patient after his initial cranky attitude. I guess I need to think about supper also. I need someone to worry about meals around here for me once in a while. It gets tiresome always having to be the one to figure out meals, do the preparation, and now the cleanup too. It was so wonderful to hear that Leslie's DGD had a good time at prom. Well, it looks like my Bulls may end up losing their last game of the regular season. At least they took the New York Knicks into overtime and played them well. The Bulls had nothing to lose with this game as they are already locked into 9th place, but the Knicks have playoff seeding implications on the line if they don't win. They are not letting their foot off the gas at all. Moral victories don't count, but I'm pleased that the Bulls took the Knicks on like they did today. Wishing everyone a super Sunday! OH! Also happy to see that Melissa's DH made it to Helsinki okay.

Dave, I mostly plant in large pots. I've done vegetables as well as flowers in all sizes of pots. For a long time, I just added some fresh potting mix to each pot and mixed it well. Last year, and I may do this again this year, I took all the dirt out of each pot and mixed everything together in large bins. Some potting mix from each pot and new mix went into the pots before I planted in them. It seemed to work out fine.
