Good morning friends. It's a clear morning and the sun is just popping through, high temperature of 91* forecasted. After last night and the steady 2 1/2 hours of rain, today looks to be dry and hot.
Today is Chocolate Pecan Pie Day. Although I have had and like pecan pie, I've never had a slice of the chocolate variety. Do you have a favorite pie flavor?
Busy day planned and I'm not even leaving the house--cooking, cleaning, and waiting for delivery of my new washer/dryer late this afternoon. How about you, do you have anything special planned today?
Dinner this evening? No idea right now--after I check the refrigerator, freezer, and cupboards, I'll decide on something.

Hope you don't mind me adding my two cents, but chocolate pecan is delicious! Lemon is my all time favorite, though.
It has finally cooled off here and weeding is in the cards for today. Then I will bake some banana muffins and tuck them in the freezer.
Supper tonight will be some experimental soup I made yesterday . It tastes good but I added a can of black beans without draining them and it looks like Halloween died in there. Good thing I live by myself!

Good morning. To be a beautiful day here. Plan on spending it outside working. Did the same yesterday. Am slowing getting the yard work done that should have been finished by the first of July. This working 4 days a week sure gets in the way of what I really want to do.
Have no idea what I will be making for dinner tonight. There is plenty in the freezer to eat. Will what time I get around to eating what I will have.
I have never had pecan pie. It looks way too sweet for me. I love raspberry, blueberry, blackberry and rhubarb pies. Please no strawberries in my rhubarb pie. My problem is I can't make a pie crust. I have tried just about every recipe for pie crust that can't fail but mine sure does. I can make all sorts of fancy pastries but not pie crust.
Have a great day.

Good morning.
It is nice and cloudy here this morning but will clear off and get hot. No plans for cooking today. We are going to the mall later so we will eat a nice lunch out. Plenty of leftovers if anyone is hungry tonight. DD needs jeans and has 2 pairs to return that she bought online. So hard to please at this age.
Have a lovely Saturday.

Valerian, of course I do not mind you adding your two cents! EVERYONE is welcome to post here! I'll take a slice of pie over a slice of cake any day. Any flavor would do, but my favorites are: fresh peach, fresh strawberry, lemon, key lime, pecan, and sour cream apple. We have two Amish restaurants in town and they are known for their pies--their peanut butter pie is their biggest seller and I know why!
Bette, I'm pie crust challenged too!
Betsy, enjoy your time with DD's.

Good morning all.
Add me to the pie crust challenged! That's why we often have a fruit crumble :) . I do have a couple of pie crust recipes I would like to try - they are supposed to be foolproof.
The laundry is about finished, just a little bit of ironing to be done. I'm hoping to do some jelly-making this afternoon. Hubby is golfing in a tournament which also means I shall cook just for me this evening. I have some chicken and mushrooms left from the other day and I will find something to do with them.
Right now, we are watching the final round of the ladies Olympic golf.
Enjoy your day, however you spend it.

Hello, We were awakened by a racket this morning. It was around 6 a.m. and it sounded like a guy yelling, then I heard a sound like someone running right next to the rv. I got up a nd looked all around but saw no one. There was also a sound like someone rattling our front door....very strange. DH was also in bed still. I kept looking and saw no one at all on any side of us. All I saw was a huge flock of sea gulls nearby. Not sure if they were on top of the RV, or in a nearby tree, but they were noisy! We both went back to bed, and as a result we did not get up until maybe 10:30. We had planned on getting up and around, leaving for a day trip at 9.
We may just drive back into Charlotte's town for the day. DH is needing to visit a hardware store. I could buy a few more groceries, a few things I am out of. I doubt we do any long drives today. Tomorrow is supposed to be good weather but rainy the next 2 days.
I don't do a good job of pie crust either. I usually buy Marie Callender's frozen if it's available. It seems the most like homemade to me. I have fair luck when I use a pie crust mix. Once I did a recipe for a crust and it used oil. It turned out wonderful. The next time I tried it, it was like cardboard! Needless to say I never used that recipe again!
DH did not want pizza last night so we had leftover chicken and rice. Not sure of any meal plans today. I'll let you know.

Good Saturday, friends! Welcome Valerian!
I do not eat dessert very often, but if I were to choose a favorite it would be vanilla ice cream...boring I know!!! I also like homemade (with fresh apples) apple pie with a slice of cheddar cheese. I saw folks on Cook's Country make an apple pie with a cheddar crust one time. I have the cookbook if anyone would like the recipe. Now that I look at the recipe, I think I'll ask my pastry chef (DH!!) to make it when making his next meat pie. (We have some bear meat in the freezer! I've cooked bear once...it's delicious...fruity, but very fatty.)
DH used to make 4 Pecan pies every Thanksgiving...three as gifts. He followed an old (1970) Betty Crocker recipe (from those cards...remember). He likes it because it has bourbon in it...of course!!!! I still have that card, if you want that recipe!!
Tonight we are having pork tenderloin with blueberry pan sauce. The sauce is my entry for the challenge this week on TOH. I made a risotto mix earlier and am making risotto "cakes" out of it. I put servings into individual spring form pans sprayed with cooking spray. Will remove them from the pans once cold and will rewarm in the microwave. I stirred in some raw scallions into the cooked risotto. I have some uninspiring blanched fresh green beans as our vegetable...maybe I'll come up with something to do with them, but I don't want anything to clash with the sauce.
Yesterday, I received some hatch chilies. The potato salad I made with a few of them is delicious...spicy.
Lori - Hope there is nothing wrong with the washer & dryer this time!
Valerain- My DH did a pile of weeding yesterday. Looks so good!
Bet - I am more than crust challenged when it comes to baking! I do make bread w/o problems, but, because it's more forgiving than cakes and pastries, I think that is why I can do it!!!
Betsy - Enjoy your lunch! Tasty - I bet you'll find something good to make with the chicken and mushrooms! Have a few Saturday chores to do so I'll close for now with a big wave to everyone!!!

Supper tonight will be some experimental soup I made yesterday . It tastes good but I added a can of black beans without draining them and it looks like Halloween died in there. Good thing I live by myself! Oh my goodness, that made me laugh this morning! :D Glad that you are enjoying it anyway! Count me in on the pecan pie. That's one of my favorites. Add chocolate chips and a little bit of bourbon and you have Derby Pie -- a favorite in Kentucky. I don't make pie often but I do love it. And when I have time, I make my own piecrust. I use the Crisco recipe and it almost always turns out well. Learned from my mother to use ice cold water and handle it as little as possible for the best results. She would usually make several at a time, put them in the disposable aluminum pans and freeze them. That way she had a homemade piecrust ready on short notice -- of course, that only works for a one-crust pie. Thawing chicken breasts for tonight. I'm going to try out DBIL's potato-chip-crusted chicken with the last of my Cape Cod smoked gouda chips. Well, I'd better get going. We slept in this morning and I've been goofing off but it's time to hit the shower and then get busy in the house. I can't tell you how nice it is to have a Saturday with nothing on the schedule.

Hi, Tammy! Enjoy your day. I use frozen pie crusts...usually deep dish for making savory pies. When I go to Whole Foods, I get the whole wheat crust...healthy calories...HA!!! Glad you are enjoying your visit to Canada!

No question about it, rhubarb pie! The only pie crust recipe I've any come close to having any success with is the one that calls for vinegar and I think an egg. I haven't made it in so long, I have forgotten. Definetely prefer pie of any kind over cake.

Good Saturday morning to one and all. I can not believe how fast the days fly by, seems like we just started on Monday.I use to love making homemade pie crust but haven't made one in so long don't know if I can anymore. My favorite pie is homemade peach, and homemade custard. I would like to make a meatloaf either today or tomorrow, will see how that goes. It is cloudy here today so makes me feel lazy and tired.
I hope that Marlene's company has arrived or will be there soon. I know she has lots of good food ready for them.I think most of the traveling people have been doing will soon end because school has started or will soon. Did you have any company this summer from other states that stayed with you? I hope everyone will have a good day and enjoy some good food tonight. Waving Hello from Iowa to everyone.

Good morning- My kids should be here shortly. I made bacon in oven so will have BLT's when they get here or BBQ Pork which ever they want. Have ham balls and cheesey hash brown casserole, also creamed cucumbers and will ask if they like summer squash and zucchini will make a casserole. Have not cooked for them for long time to see what they like.
My other two GF went to our friends farm sale today. I was going but parking is a issue so I just called them. Gary was so nice to come here and help my kids. They were not going to stay long.
I went to town and got groceries this morning so hope I got everything I need. Going to make a breakfast casserole for in the morning.
Lori I love pecan pie! Ann I would like to have your recipe for the one with bourbon, not that I like bourbon as I don't but it might take some of the sweetness out of it. I do like to make pie crusts but it is messy job! So easy to buy them and I roll them out a little as they are to thick. Usually I get the 2 crusts in a box and do use the store brand.
Have a good week-end! Marlene

Just in for a short break. Cleaning greenhouses and getting ready to take one down. Lots of plants to clean up and some need to be transplanted so it is taking longer than I like. This is what happens when you don't tend to things all summer long. Still no idea what dinner will be. Actually junk food sounds good about now. Haven't done that in a long time. There are a few frozen things that I bought since I didn't have time to make and freeze so that maybe what it will be.
Ann, I think it was you that mentioned a spicy sauce you make for meatloaf. Would love that recipe.
Bet
