Well, I finally decided that I would make an easy dinner for tonight--Sloppy Joe's, however, DH informed me now, after 35 years of being married, he doesn't like them because they're sloppy! That explains why when I've given him a choice of Sloppy Joe's or something else, he always goes with the something else! I just told him not to wait another 35 years to tell me he doesn't like something!!
Just took some ham out of the freezer and frozen peas. Will bake a pan of cornbread, break it up and then make a old, but new to me, Rachael Ray recipe--Ham and Pea Casserole. I found the recipe in a 2007 issue of her Everyday magazine. I'll make a size salad to go along with that.
Got the pot of soup done and into individual freezer containers, egg cups frozen, and might have time to bake a batch of cookies for the freezer. Will all come in handy for when I return back to subbing once school opens this coming week. Lori

DH found something in his tool box to use to nail the trim piece back up, so no need to drive to the hardware store. It may not be raining but it is gray and gloomy out, so we decided to just stay home for the day. We had pizza for lunch. For supper, I forgot that I had some ham steaks in the fridge. I will grill those and roast some of the new PRI potatoes, and we will also have some fresh corn on the cob that I bought. Sure wish I had some pie for dessert! I'm hungry for some now. I love most any kind of pie. My mom always said that I only liked 2 kinds of pie...hot and cold! I would say that I prefer cream pies, and pecan pie would be at the bottom of the list. It's ok but really sweet.
We are at a campground which is located very close to a racetrack. The races are held on....yes, you guessed it. Saturday nights! They start at 4 but we have been hearing the engines race for about an hour now. Kind of wish we had decided to go somewhere-anywhere for the evening! So, I had a rude awakening this morning and won't be able to sleep until the racing is done. DH tells me they are over at 10. Hope so.

Tamara, to put a positive spin on the racing issue, you will have ringside seats if you decide to watch! ๐ Hope the noise is over at 10 & no later.

Hello friends, I am back from a family vacation in Lake George, NY. We had a great time and the weather was fantastic. It was nice to eat out everyday, not have to make the bed and just relax. I think the best part is when we went on a banana boat on the lake. I think I would've enjoyed vacation a bit more if we weren't having car problems. We were able to make it home though so that is an answer to prayer.
Getting caught up on laundry and reality lol.
I had been to Lake George as a kid so it was nice to take our kids there. DH has been there as well.
Need to get caught up with everyone.
Lori, Thanks so much for keeping the thread going. Welcome to all our new friends. Variety is the spice of life. We don't care if you order out every night, just join in on the conversation.
I was going to grill hot dogs and hamburgers and make fries and onion rings but we had the a/c off while away and even though it's back on, the house hasn't completely cooled off yet. So turning on the oven is not a good idea. I think I'll just defrost some sauce and make meatballs and pasta. Nancy

Good Afternoon, We are having a sunny blue sky afternoon w/temp at 64 degrees. We are due for thunderstorms later this evening. I hope it is only rain......don't need those white rocks falling out of the sky. I am spending a quiet week-end at home relaxing and vegging out.
Dinner will be chicken spaghetti made from some leftover chicken, salad and brownies w/ walnuts for dessert.
Hope everyone is having a great late summer week-end. Tammy, I hope your night is quiet and peacful and Marlene, I hope your family is with you to see all the improvements to your home and enjoy your wonderful hospitality.
Cheers to all, Doris

Glad you had a nice vacation Nancy.
While hubby golfed this afternoon I played in the kitchen. Made 2 different jellies, ready for the FOT bake sale - red pepper and garlic + red onion jelly. The veggies are floating beautifully in the lightly coloured jellies. Both are very pretty - a good afternoon's work!
Hubby ate at the golf club and I used some chicken and mushrooms I had left in the fridge - made a lovely chicken mushroom Alfredo, quick, easy and good.
Husbands can be funny sometimes Lori. You'd think in 35 years he might have given you a hint.
Have a lovely evening. We're going to watch the final concert from The Tragically Hip. It is being held not that far from us but we will watch on TV. Turns out it's also being shown at the local drive-in.

I'm another pie crust impaired person. Yes, the frozen Marie Callender's are very good and I'll also use them when available. I can make a wicked pat in crust but don't team me up with pie dough and a rolling pin because disaster will follow. Fruit pies and pumpkin pies are the way to go in this house.
The weather did a total turn around during the day, from hot, muggy, humid, stagnant air, and some rain to low humidity, breezy, and temps about 70ยบ, and clear skies. Absolutely perfect!
Change in dinner plans. Husband developed one of the summer blockhead colds and is having soup, I'll go for a sandwich of some type and a fresh sliced tomato. Lots of fresh fruit around also. All good but not the same as our Saturday night pizza.
Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend.

Lori, had to laugh at your story about your husband not liking Sloppy Joes after 35 years...only took mine 15 years to tell me he liked oatmeal cookies!. Pie crusts...I can only do the ones with the egg and vinegar...makes 5 so I always have some in the freezer, Found a recipe for and apple crumble pie...excellent an no top crust!

Well, I feel better! I thought I was the only pie crust impaired person among all these really good cooks! Hubby LOVES pie of any form. I usually can't find the Marie Callendar pie crust here in North Carolina, so I typically use Pet Ritz deep dish crust.
