Good morning! It's below freezing at 26° and clear. All went well in transitioning Duchess. Of course, she heard the doorbell ring and scooted into hiding. When she heard Uncle Jeff's voice she came out, went right up to him, and started purring!! I didn't cry...NOT!! I texted Aunt Kathy last evening, and she said Duchess was ensconced in Jeff's bedroom sleeping under his bed. She promised more 'reports'. We had soup for supper...one of my 'dump' soups...really good with Jacob's Cream Crackers. Tonight we are having meatloaf, fried noodles, and steamed broccoli. Will drop off bags of donations today. We have to pick up a new battery for my Cooper instant read thermometer. Will be vacuuming today, too. Enjoy your morning! Waving!

Good morning friends.
Ann- Hugs to you. I am sure this is hard for you. Glad to hear she is in a good home and well taken care of. She will be the Duchess there in no time at all by the sounds. So I am taking a page from your book, if I may call it that. I made black bean salsa last week and have enough left over that needs to be used up. So I thought, pull an Ann! LOL I will dump it into my wok and cook it until the tomatoes and onion are done and add a bit of V8 juice and some chili seasonings, pour it over rice and call it supper. Ta Da!
I did get the quilt top done so will now take both over to the quilters later today when she is up. I may make another one later today but this time I will do triangles instead of squares.
Have a great day all.

Glad I could inspire!!!! Great idea! Julia Child once said, "The only real stumbling block is fear of failure. In cooking you've got to have a what-the-hell attitude." That's just my thinking exactly!

Good morning. It is 8°here this morning and sunny at the moment. May get some snow flurries at some point today. I need to get out and fill the bird feeders and get to the kitchen to get the Chicken Cordon Bleu Casserole put together. Everything is prepared except shredding the cheese. Then I will go the green beans.
Ann glad Duchess is doing OK at her new home.
Chris, a triangle rather that square quilt sounds a bit more challenging.
Have a great day.

Hello and good morning to all! Today is National Chocolate Mint Day.
After about 26 hours of a soft light rainfall, our weather has begun to clear this morning. Sadly, many events over the weekend were either postponed or canceled altogether. Once the daylight breaks this morning, we should see lawns that have greened up and grown from the much-needed rain. Currently 55*, we are to climb to around 67* later.
Schools are closed today meaning DH is home. Plans involve getting our hairs cut, going over to check out the mattress once again, and working around the house. Late this afternoon, DH has an appointment with the doctor to set up a colonoscopy, which he'd like me to attend, so that's my day pretty much.
Yesterday evening my DB called to let me know that a friend/neighbor, Vic (and his wife, Susan) will be on America's Most Wanted this evening. As per my DB, his friend, a retired airline pilot, now a private pilot, was neighbors 20+ years to two gay men, one being killed by the other for cheating. I won't say more to give the outcome away in the event you watch the show.
Need to go down a cup of coffee and get moving. Hairdresser gets to the shop at 8 and we would like to be there shortly afterwards. As of right now, no idea of what dinner will be tonight. Take care and have a good day everyone. Lori

Bet - Did you mention fish cakes a few days ago...something about them falling apart? Anyway, I saw this recipe in my NewEngland.com (Yankee Magazine) daily email. newengland.com/food/fish-cakes-homemade-tartar-sauce/? Looks good to me. I noticed one woman said she uses this recipe to make crab cakes.

Thanks Ann. That is interesting using potato and no egg in the mix. I will give it a try. I did find my crab cake recipe and want to give that a try first.

Hairs are cut and we are back home. Need to shower to get all the fine bits and pieces off us.
DH just called about getting a service call for our dryer---3 weeks before they can come out. Took the appointment (as a backup), however, DH said he's not going to the laundromat for 3 weeks, so he's going to fit it himself. He's a pretty handy guy so we'll see.
Mattress shop opens at 10, so I better get off here, shower, and go from there. Lori

Good morning, friends. Getting started on my list for today. I have water boiling in the microwave so I can scrub it down inside. I'm working on getting the dining room table set for our guests tonight, and bog is already simmering on the stove. After the microwave is clean, I plan to start on taxes.
Ann and Chris, I agree with Julia. Sometimes the best meals are the ones that just happen because you had a little of this and a little of that! And although it's a relief that Duchess was very happy to go with her new owners, I know you will both miss her. She's a lucky kitty, is all I can say, to have so many people who love and care for her.
Lori, chocolate and mint is one of my favorite combinations so I would be happy to celebrate that holiday. DH likes chocolate, and he likes mint, but he doesn't care for them together. I love him but sometimes I don't understand him. 😄
Bet, sounds like you are ready to go for your meal tonight as well -- no surprise there!

Break time. Give my arms a rest. Took pills before I started but they are just starting to kick in. Two batches of the Cordon Bleu recipe are finished. One more to go. Then all I need to do is put the green bean dish together. That won't take long then it is just a matter of getting everything backed up to go later this afternoon. I won't make the Balsamic Butter Sauce until just before I leave and get the beans etc. into a crock pot to keep the hot until we serve. Am actually finishing the casserole at the Center in their ovens and then into a chaffing dish. Will also heat the rice and get that into the crock pot before I leave.
Not sure what I will do this afternoon but sure there is plenty to do around here. At least maybe I will have time to actually get myself ready to go to the meeting by 5 PM.
Elza, sounds like you are well on your way to getting your meal done for tonight also. How many are you serving. I will have to remember the bog the next time I decided to server chicken at a meeting. Won't be until September however as I have the meat for the last 2 meeting I will have to cook for.
Lori, that is a long time to wait to get the dryer fixed but I guess it is the same everywhere trying to get repairs. Good luck to DH. I know of folks that have replaced the heat portion and it wasn't a bad job at all. These days most parts just plug in and there are repair manuals on line for just about anything.
Time to get back to work.

Good morning.
Sunny and 55º with no breeze. Mandy enjoyed seeing Mary's two this morning. Then the two huge dogs came to the other side and Mandy got her run time. Once the bigger dogs barking got the better of her, she hid by me. But she did manage to get the "job" done. hehehe
A load of clothes are in the washer and about ready for the Downy to be added. I don't like the feel that dryer sheets leave on the clothes and the residue isn't good for the dryer either. Or so a serviceman has told me. So I have to be listen for the rinse cycle or no softener at all. Nothing else planned unless I get my butter softened enough to make cookies this morning. I only have three cookies left in the cookie jar. The microwave will have to help me out with the butter this time. Yesterday I got the bumper sticker I ordered weeks ago....."NOT DRUNK. JUST AVOIDING POTHOLES". All roads here are horrible all year round.
Lori, good luck finding the right mattress. I still hate mine. Oh well, lesson learned.
Elaine, I'm trying to find senior living options here. But it seems all are assisted living. Do you know of any that are just senior living? My income doesn't allow for much.
Well my third cup of coffee is done and my cookies are gone, so I better get up and get to my morning chores. That will take me all of 20 minutes. LOL

Good Day Mates! A beautiful day here. The sun is shining without a cloud in the sky - just enough snow left to look clean and sparkle. Today is to go up into the 40's, so probably will take the snow away. THEN.....just mud!
We have quite a diverse neighborhood this morning! Our Mallards are on the lake with the Canada Geese and four swans. We used to have a pair of swans and then for the last couple of years, only one came back. Now, four of them. And we have somebodies new......coots. I don't think I have ever seen or heard coots on our lake before. A lot of chatter going on!! I wonder if they understand each other? Anyway, very pretty with the snow, blue sky and "birds" on the water.
Ann, I would be in tears what with giving Duchess away. For us, it would be giving up a part of our family!
For the next week, I will be taking care of a neighbors cats. Two gorgeous black cats....very friendly and loved to be snuggled - although both of them are in excess of 15 pounds. This is the family that has their daughter in Hospice with bone marrow cancer. On her bucket list was a trip to Las Vegas, so the mom and dad are making that happen.
I have some family company coming in a few days, so have "torn the house down" as my mom used to call it. Today will be finishing up the floors which I had stripped and am re-waxing And, I want you all to tell me why laundry is so important to get done when company is coming??
I am still having problems with my leg and hip. But, after going to the chiropractor for a couple of weeks, it is all 200% better. Just a now and then as opposed to the all the time problems. I wonder who named this period in life as the "golden years?"
I bought some crab cakes and froze them, now, how do I make them......
Best get myself in gear - ttyl

Good morning everyone Ann, so good to hear that all went well with Duchess. Sounds like she will settle in nicely. Will you be able to go see her once in a while? Dump soups often turn out to be the best kind. And there’s no way to duplicate them..one of a kind. Pity. Chris, let us know how your supper turns out. Lots of kitchen concoctions (sp) poured over rice make for a great meal. Have fun with the triangles. I always found them to be a lot trickier than trying to put together squares. Lori, Chocolate Mint, one of my favourite combos. Holiday today here too. Family Day. First long weekend of the year. Hope you are able to get your hairs cut. Always a good feeling when that’s done. Well, I see you are back home and had your hair cuts. Three weeks is a long time to wait for repairs. Bet, thanks for correcting my mistake. I will try to do better in the future so as not to make more work for you. I really appreciate how much you do for us. Busy day for you today. Is the dinner tonight? Emr, company for dinner tonight at your house too. Hope it all comes together and you have a good time with your friends. Boiling water in the micro to clean it. What a good idea, never heard that tip before. Thanks. Will set Hazel loose on the floors this morning, also plan on doing some laundry. No idea what’s for supper tonight. DD was supposed to come for supper last night. She had been in Vancouver with her DDs for 2 days (went to a concert, shopping), came back Friday. Saturday night, DGD1 had a sore throat, next morning she tested. Sure enough, Covid. DD thought she shouldn’t come as she had just spent 2 days with her DD. Mild case, DD and DGD2 are fine so far. Fingers crossed. DH just came and told me he just wanted some kind of sandwich and some of ‘those potatoes’ for supper. (Scalloped ). Works for me. Bbl. Jan

Good morning everyone. Happy Family Day Jan and any other Canadians here. Happy Presidents Day to my US friends here. A day off for some but not all I guess. At home it is a cold morning but with some sunshine the high will be 25. Here in MB it is cool and gray and the high should make the mid 50s. Hubby joined me for my walk on the beach this morning but we were wrapped up - quite windy down by the sea but OK away from the water. Not sure what we'll do with the rest of the day, not a day for golf! Had taco salads for supper last night. It's one of my fall backs - easy and we both enjoy it and we have some leftovers for lunch today or tomorrow 👍. Time to finish my cup of tea and then get thru the shower. Have a marvelous Monday. Bet & Elza - enjoy your suppers with friends this evening.
