Welcome to our Wednesday picture thread. We invite everyone to post the picture or pictures of their choice.
This moonflower vine has a story. I bought this plant this spring and put it at the lower part of the chicken run thinking with the rains running down hill the vine would get lots of fertilize and grow really good with lots of great blooms on it. Well it started out growing and doing really good. Thought I was going to have a beautiful vine before the summer ended. Then one morning I walked by and noticed it was wilting. While its been hot here pretty much all summer I knew it was too early in the morning for the leaves to be wilting and wasn't that hot just yet. So I started investgating and found a hole coming out of the ground next to the vine and the vine had been eaten into. It was clearly the work of a &%^&* vole. They have given me fits in the past with some plants. So I went down to the garden center where I had purchased the vine to hopefully replace it. I was too late there was none left. Figured I was going to have to wait till next year for some of those beautiful white flowers. Had an idea. Wonder if there was any chance to root that vine and keep it alive. I really didn't think there was any way but then again I had nothing to lose. So I took a small container and filled it with dirt and put the end of the vine down in the soil and watered daily. The big leaves wilted and dried up. But I kept noticing the smaller leaves were still green and not wilting. Was there a chance that it was going to live ? Well after a while it became apparent it was going to live and it even began to grow branching out from the vine. So I got a big 5 gallon container and bought a big bag of potting soil and filled it. Then I placed the vine in that big container and that vine kept growing without missing a beat. Then a few days ago I began seeing blooms late in the afternoons. Well now I had a problem. The blooms was on top of the chicken run and how was I gonna get a picture of those beauties. So this evening just before dark I took a chair and stood in the chair to get this picture.
