Good morning friends. Today is National Zucchini Day and National Frozen Custard Day.
Elza, how excited and happy you must be this morning knowing both of your boys will be home today. I know you enjoy every moment with them.
Marlene, your rings sounds lovely. I hope you have many special occasions to wear them over the years and it's nice your daughters will enjoy them later.
Tasty, sounds like you and your friends are going to have a wide variety of jams to sell this year.
I will be spending some time today in the kitchen. It is DH's birthday and as I do every year, I asked him what he wanted for his special day dinner this evening. He picked Hungarian hamburgers, Do-Ahead Potatoes, corn on the cob, and Upside-Down Apple Pie. The original recipe (TOH), when published years ago, did not have a glaze drizzled on top, but I noticed it now does.
Going to get the pie going now. Will try to get back here later today. Waving to all and wishing everyone a wonderful Wednesday.

Good morning all.
Happy birthday to your hubby, Lori. His choice of dinner sounds yummy.
I am supposed to be golfing this afternoon, but last time I checked we had an 80% likelihood of severe thunderstorms so the last place I would want to be is on the golf course. If that is the case, we will have the chicken and ratatouille that I prepared yesterday using all home grown veggies 🙂 So much for hubby's quiet night by himself!
Haven't seen anything from Betsy for a few days - hope all is well in California!
I'll bet you're excited today Elza. Have a great time with your boys 🙂
Marlene, your talk of peach pie has me wanting one and the local (Niagara) peaches are in the stores now. I bought a box the other day and they are sweet and juicy and lovely. Our peach tree has nothing this year but after its bounty last year, I cannot complain.
Waving to all - have a wonderful Wednesday 🙋

Lori, What is a Hungarian hamburger? We have friends in Hungary and will have to ask Márta too. They send us paprika from there whenever I need it.

Thanks Lori for starting us. Happy Birthday to your DH sounds like he will have a great supper tonight. Nice to fix what he likes.
I am looking through my bar recipes as three of us will have fellowship this Sunday. So we should have a nice assortment of bars and snackies to munch on. I was going to do dill pickles with cream cheese and dried beef rolled up too. Will have cheese, crackers, summer sausage and grapes.
I went to visitation last night and funeral is going to be this morning. It is a small church so not going there. There is enough family to fill it. Gary was the same age as my DH. Will sure miss him.
Well better get this day started today.
Marlene

Good morning. I was wondering about the Hungarian Hamburgers, too. I've never heard of them.
Tasty--we have a 60% chance of storms this afternoon but with the way things have been going, I'm not holding my breath. The anti-rain force field kept us from getting anything yesterday again so I have my doubts that there will be much coming our way this afternoon. It is humid and uncomfortable again--not my kind of summer weather. You and your group have certainly been busy with your canning and preserving projects. I'm hoping to get regional peaches pretty soon--they always taste so much better than those brought in.
Tonight I am planning to make bone-in country-style pork ribs in the Instant Pot plus potato salad, also in the IP. I bought a second pot which is non-stick, ceramic coated, and it comes in handy when I want to cook two different things for a meal with different timings. The non-stick pot comes in handy. I'm very careful with it to make sure it stays non-stick.
I know there are several people out there with IP's. Have you ever done bone-in country ribs--which are actually pretty much thick slices of pork shoulder? I see timings anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes on various recipes and I can't seem to find a chart with this cut listed. Cooking them too long in the pressure cooker makes the meat dry. So I think I will use the timing for a pot roast, which is 30 to 35 minutes. If it isn't done enough, I can always cook it a little longer. I'm going to cook them on the rack with rub and put sauce on when it is time to brown them just before eating.
I'd better shake a leg--I've been dawdling. I would like to cook my supper and put it in the refrigerator for later. Have a good day.

Hello friends.
Lori, Happy birthday to your DH!
Another hazy, hot and humid day. Youngest DD went to our pool yesterday for 7 hours! So refreshing.
My friends kids are with me today and they belong to the town pool so we'll head there in a bit. I don't care for the town pool as it's small and gets crowded. I don't usually swim when I go there but since it's so hot I will.
No idea what I'm cooking tonight.
Betsy, How was everything at the shower?
Waving to all.
Enjoy your day.
Nancy

DD went home last nite after a mighty effort getting things ready for the move. We couldn't pack everything because i wanted to keep the house looking good for showings. Just need buyers now. I had the annual maintenance done for the AC today and have to arrange for a power washing on the lanai in the near future. Supper will be the pasta salad I made this morning and a ham sandwich. Looks like rain any minute. Enjoy your day. Happy Birthday to Lori's hubby!

Afternoon! Icky again today. We had a 30 minute rain last night so I didn't have to water this morning. A BIG plus...! As I sit, I'm listening to the guys set up our new washer. Refrigerator will come on Friday morning. DH and I spent another couple of hours going through things down there. We have about 1/4 of it straightened and cleaned. Birdy - I know Miss Vickie's cookbook is for a regular stovetop one, but the chart in her book says to cook pork ribs, country style with 1-1 1/2 cups of water for 12 minutes with natural release. There is one recipe called "Caesar's Ribs and Potatoes" and it calls for browning the ribs, and it says 10 minutes for 2-3 pounds of boneless ribs. Personally, I would not cook boneless ribs for the same reason you give...they get tough really fast. Then I found this: linkLori - Happy, happy day to your DH. Those Hungarian burgers sound interesting!! Elsa - Have a wonderful visit with your sons!!!! Meal sounds delish! Helen - Wishing you luck with selling!!! Tonight we are having a baked veal parmesan topped with prosciutto and Italian cheese, sautéed green beans and corn with shallots and garlic, and sautéed leftover tortellini. Time to wash away the cellar dust. Enjoy the evening! Waving!

I don't seem to be able to reply with color so am having to use the quick replay for some reason.
It's been a lazy day, and I have enjoyed it. there was nothing on the calendar and not really any chores that had to be done. I did a couple small loads of laundry just to stay caught up.
Supper will be German hamburgers and assorted tots. I have some regular and some veggie tots.
I will be going to play cards at 6. The ac man finally made it here in the afternoon yesterday, he said the unit was low on Freon. The unit will have to be replaced. Not sure when that will be happening. At least it is under warranty.
Lori, happy birthday to DH! The menu sounds good.
DH is working on my new computer, and I am still using this older one. It seems that the email server is trying to sync the computers and my phone so I am getting hundreds of 14 year old email! Lots of deleting in store!
Waving to everyone. Need to get started on supper. Hope to hear all is well with Betsy.

Hello all.
I have finally had a chance to say hi. The shower went well. DDIL is at the dr right now and has texted. She is a bit anemic but other than that they are letting nature takes it's course and they will see her in a week. 13 days until due date and DDIL has had it. She is ready. LOL. I think she was hoping they would say get to the hospital right now. LOL
I have been battling a cough from a cold I had in July. I am in a bit of pain so heading to see dr in the morning. I think it's muscular not in infection but I need it checked in case it's pneumonia God forbid. I do not feel sick.
I made meatballs and sausage in the insta pot for dinner. I will let you know if it is good cooked in the insta.
Waving to all.
Betsy

German hamburgers are burger patties, made with a seasoning mixture I bought at a German import store. When we volunteered in Colorado there was a German bakery that carried a small grocery section. A couple from church invited us over for dinner and these burgers are what she made. She was born in Germany so knew this mix was excellent. I was able to find a few bags of it the last time I was in Big Lots.

Hungarian Hamburgers are made with ground pork (pork butt). I season with salt, pepper, a little garlic, some onions, and add 2 eggs. I make them into patties and pan fry them after they are coated in breadcrumbs. They are not served in buns.
DH loved his birthday dinner and he thanks you for all the warm wishes.
Talk with you again tomorrow.
