Good morning friends.
Sorry for being AWOL! LOL Had a really busy week and been on the computer most all day. So I stopped by and read but did not check in! I have been re writing a lot of forms that have to be changed that the last guy never updated for several years. He even had our old address from 2 and a half years ago. Lots of changes need to be done so I decided to clean up the paper work and make it look better too. Monday I will not be doing any assistance just finish up the updates and I should be done. I hope anyway.
I feel like a fish out of water at times. Taking this on with no training has been a bit daunting at times. I am just hoping I have not messed it up too bad so far! LOL
We are going blueberry picking this morning with DS and his little family. I want to make a blueberry pie this afternoon. I have to use up my gallon and a half of raspberries I pick yesterday. My bushes are so full. I will make jam this afternoon too. I wonder if I can make a blueberry/raspberry jam! Hummm???
Chris (on her best ever drink ever made of the morning)

Chris you have been missed but thought the new job had you very busy. Terrible way some people take care of a business isn't it. I am sure you will have everything updated and in order very soon. That jam sounds good!! I love the wild blueberries better than the tame ones. They are smaller and taste better. Hope you have a fun filled day.
Supper last night was delicious. I had to bring home 1/2 of my steak. Way to big for me!! It was all delicious and we came home to Strawberry/Rhubarb pie and assortment of bars. Was nice to see Kim and Mark. Mark had pictures of their little grandson and he is so cute! Sounded like they had a nice time with all the kids.
Going to go meet Gloria and go to Craft fair in Walnut today. It is in the school's gym. They don't use the school anymore and they made it their Community Center. These small towns are combining with larger schools.
Hope you all have a great day and week-end.
Marlene

I agree on the wild blueberries. Unfortunately, the places where we picked for free when I was a child are all private, posted land now. Everyone seems to prefer the large, cultivated berries and many people are clearing land for them. Too bad! I can pick wild blueberries near my friend's farm near the Adirondack park but we have to be on the alert for bears, especially since it has been really dry and wild food is in short supply. Picking while being alert for rustling in the bushes isn't high on my list! LOL!
Chris--it sounds to me like they made the right decision putting you in this job. Imagine someone going that long without updating! Just keep trucking along and don't forget to look confident (even if you don't feel it.) Body language speaks volumes! LOL!
I bought a nice lamb chop for my supper tonight. I haven't had lamb in ages and am looking forward to it. We always ate the less-expensive blade chops in my family so I actually prefer them to the pricey loin chops. I'm planning on pan broiling it since getting the grill going for one chop doesn't thrill me. Actually, I think I prefer pan broiled.
Have a good day, folks.

Blueberries and raspberries, yum!
Chris, sounds like you inherited a mess, but kudos to you for jumping in to clean it up. I've been there before -- taken over a job from someone who left piles of things undone, or done wrong. Not fun right now but you will reap the benefits of getting everything updated.
Helen, we're having your kind of weather. It's a cooler, rainy Saturday, with off-and-on thunderstorms in the forecast pretty much through the next week. Enjoying my last cup of coffee in my pjs right now after having sausage biscuits for breakfast. The sausage came from a local meat company, and the biscuits were frozen but they sure baked up nicely. It was good.
Marlene, sounds like a fun day. I bet y'all will enjoy browsing at the craft fair. I love leftover steak!
Birdy, your lamb chop dinner sounds good. One of the things I miss from Louisville is the Kentucky State Fair, where I used to get a lamb sandwich every year -- thin sliced roasted lamb with bbq sauce.
Well, on to the rest of the day. Have a good one, y'all ~

Good morning. Today is our last nice day then 5-6 days of rain is the forecast. We will see. Have been busy between kids and working. Wednesday I did manage to get the rebuilt garden planted in the fairy garden. So far the plants are looking good. Thursday I had to clean next door for new guests coming in. I had just the 2 older kids. Cameron stayed here and Addison went and helped me. Yesterday I had the 3 girls. Since the baby was here didn't do much of anything. It was a long day however. Addison arrived at 7:30 and Annabella and Natalie didn't leave until 7 PM. I need to get ready for work shortly. Today is my short shift. Work from 12-5. Then I have to work the next 3 days that are at night so that means I don't get done until after 10. Will have Addison on Monday but after that won't have any until Friday and maybe not then. Do have to clean next door one day.
Have a great day.

Good Morning!
As usual our coffee pot died this morning. It seems we go through them every few months. I just got back from the resale shop where I bought a small Mr. Coffee for $1.00! DH wanted to go back to the brewed coffee, not the K cup. I actually do have a K cup type that I bought when it was on sale at the resale shop, but I loaned it to Helen, so it is locked up in her rv. So, I heated water in the microwave and had some hot tea this morning. DH does not even have coffee here most mornings, he walks about 100 steps to the kitchen and gets coffee for free.
No plans for me to cook here today. We can have leftovers for lunch then head to the church. I think DH wants to go over about 2:00. We can have a pulled pork sandwich whenever we get hungry. I hope we get a good turnout.
I was hoping the next door neighbor might show up this weekend so we could talk to him again about buying the house, but so far I have not seen anyone over there.
I think it is going to be a late night, since I will have to cook the pinto beans after we get back home tonight. We stop serving at 8 but will have to clean up the church kitchen. Hope you all have a nice day.

I do love lamb but the price has been outlandish lately. We have always had lamb lovers living in the area--established Lebanese and Syrian families from the early 1900's--but we now have a larger population of people who have settled from other mid-eastern countries. I think it has pushed prices up locally but maybe it's happening all over. I make it a point to buy American-raised lamb, too, because I think it tastes better because of how it's fed--and that's more expensive than the imported lamb. Soooo . . . lamb is a special treat when it's running close to $9 a lb.
That roast lamb with BBQ sauce sounds good. I understand that people from that general area also like BBQing mutton. I draw the line at that--way too strong for me.

Birdy The State Fair sandwich is so good IMO because the sauce is mild enough that it doesn't cover up the flavor of the lamb. I know there are places in Kentucky -- Moonlite Bar-B-Q in Owensboro is probably the best known -- that serve mutton but I never tried it. That just doesn't appeal to me. I'm Southern enough that BBQ is always going to mean pork!

Hello. This will be just a quick check-in. Family surprised us and will be staying with us for a few days.
This morning we all got up early and went downtown to the farmers market. Afterwards we went to a Mexican place for brunch. Came home and showered, put on clean clothes and now we're slowly getting ready to go back downtown for dinner--Chinese. Afterwards we're going to walk along the beach.
Waving to all.

Tasty would you care to share some of your jam recipes? I would love it. I am overloaded with Raspberries and now Blueberries! And blackberries. I have just finished making raspberry/blueberry/blackberry jam! I am about to can it now. I think I have about 4 pints. Tastes really good. I used a simple recipe off Pintrest just berries and sugar. The cook time is the secret I guess. I have not made jam much and ever had great success.

Good afternoon, friends! It's another wonderful summer day, but storms are due overnight, and the coming week may be rainy and stormy. Won't complain after this nice stretch we've had. DH worked outside in the yard this morning while I tackled a big clean in the bathroom...moving the radiator cover/cabinet to vacuum and mop behind & cleaning and organizing in the cabinet, washing down the paint, etc. After that I just tackled the its weekly cleaning. Feels good to get that done. Chris - Bravo to you for taking the bull by the horns and doing your new job as it should be done. I'm sure it will get easier! I love the wild blueberries. There was just a Chronicle show on this week about Maine's Schoodic Peninsula which is part of Acadia National Park. One of the stops in exploring the peninsula apart from the park is Blueberry Land with a building in the shape of a blueberry!!! We went there years ago when we were exploring the area. Yum, on the wild blueberry pies, jams and such. Blueberry Land I also remember picking wild blueberries atop Cadillac mountain. Birdy - Never had blade lamb chops. I like loin chops, but really like leg of lamb the best. I buy American lamb, too. Never had mutton except in Irish stew that my Nana used to make, but I don't see it for sale anywhere here now. Marlene - I worried about you when I saw the news about the bad storms in Iowa. Glad to read you were having fun, instead!!! Tammy - Mom and I prefer brewed coffee using the Faberware percolator...I have hot coffee on weekends when I have breakfast with her. (We boil water and heat a Aladdin thermos to pour it into so it doesn't get that "cooked" taste. During the week, I drink cold brewed iced coffee all year. Glad you found a home for the cat; hope you can deliver it conveniently. Elza - Never thought of having lamb BBQ; I always associate BBQ with chicken or pork. Lori - Enjoy your visit! Tonight DH is grilling strip steak we got at Aldi...he put on a Bourbon marinade recipe that I got in a Yankee magazine email. We'll have it with potato salad and corn. Have a great evening, folks! Waving!

We finished up sorting the kitchen cabinets and island today. Will be donating lots. It's been a long time since I've gone through every single piece. We were so tired we just had hot dogs and baked beans for supper. Just had my shower and am ready for sleep. Sweet dreams.
