Good Sunday, all! It rained overnight...yea, but temps and dewpoints are rising. I was busy yesterday with garden work and cooking. DH cooked some thick pork chops, and, for the first time, I got him to use our smoker with some Applewood. Yum! I still had some rice blend and fresh peas left so I made some fried rice. I used some of the string beans, too. Ham salad flatbread quesadillas are on the menu tonight with a tomato salad. Lori - Sending more hugs and prayers for comfort to you and your family. Elza - Glad you had a good "field trip"! I enjoyed reading the link you posted. Mmmm, ice cream...we had Brigham's Coffee last night for dessert...our Saturday treat. Bet - My heart went thump reading about your experience! Hope you manage to catch the critter. Glad to read you are going to have a good tomato crop. I'll check in later...time to walk upstairs to start Sunday breakfast! Waving!

You look a little lonely here this morning Ann!
I plan on spending tomorrow morning making some preserves so I have already been to the store this morning, and now have prepped the fruit as far as I can. I have one marmalade and one jam planned so if the fruit for the marmalade is all ready to go I can put it on to simmer when I get up without having a ton of work to do first. It has to simmer for 2 hours before I add the sugar, so an early start on it will be a good thing.
Despite the heat, we are golfing this afternoon. We will have 2 foursomes out there and then we are having dinner together afterwards. The kitchen is putting on a turkey dinner so we are in for a nice meal with good company.
That means no cooking here which I really like. Hubby is watching the World Cup final, hoping it's finished before we have to leave.
Have a lovely Sunday 8-)

Good afternoon to everybody. I'm still eating soft foods until my dentist appt on Tuesday, so I had yogurt for breakfast, and mashed potatoes and applesauce for lunch. Planning on tomato soup for dinner. Chocolate pudding for an afternoon snack.
Ann, I had to look up Brigham's. I love coffee ice cream.
Tasty, mmmm, marmalade. I bet yours is good. Nothing better on a toasted English muffin.
Waving to the rest of the crew!

Good Afternoon, We just got home from church. Today was baked potato day but the lady in charge had a problem with the roaster and some of the potatoes did not get done in the center-ours were not done. We tried to eat them but decided to just bring them home and I will microwave them or fry them. The potatoes on the edge of the cooker got burned but the others did not get cooked through. She was able to grab quite a few and toss in the oven. So, we are a little hungry and will go out to grab a late lunch/early dinner.
We came on home to let the dogs out and to watch the CBS news that we recorded. We were hoping for a longer segment but it was still pretty short.
The guy in charge of the "Law Enforcement appreciation dinner" got pink eye and was not at church this morning, and we did not have his phone number to call and coordinate things. We were able to have our friend send him a text and he is supposed to call DH in a few minutes. We were told that our pastor plans on going shopping and buying the groceries, so that will be a load off of us. DH wants to start cooking on Wednesday. The dinner is Saturday afternoon. We think we will be cooking around 15 pork shoulders. DH is liking that little electric smoker. The ribs were totally awesome that we had.
I got my debit card so all is well with my account but DH noticed on his debit card account that there were 2 $1.00 charges pending! So it looks like he is going to have to go through the same procedure and get a new card.
Hugs to those in need, and waving to all.

Just got home. Went with Marge after church and went to where her son and where her and her DH will be buried when she is gone. She had a musical banner to hang on Bruce's grave. Then we stopped and had dinner before coming home. So don't need much for supper one of my yogurts will be fine. Seen Chuck was here and brought back all my dishes and cleaned out my lawnmower also. Their DGD is making pumpernickel bread for 4-H for fair so they have been trying new recipes and looks like I am one of the lucky ones to get a loaf. Looks good.
It is hot out there today so will stay in where it is cooler today.

Hello friends.
Thank you, each and every one of you, for your hugs and prayers--much needed and appreciated by us right about now. Slowly we are trying to move forward and although there will be moments/days that are harder then others, I think we'll be okay.
I tried to post yesterday, but DH had to spend quite a few hours on the computer due to his job. When he was finally done, or so he thought last evening, he had to go back on and take care of a few things.
No idea of what dinner will be today. Probably going to pick something up at the store or just run over and have a meal some place.
Have to go for now. Take care and waving to all.
Lori

Afternoon! Ugh! It's baaaack…. the heat and humidity, that is. I'm such a wimp; hate the stuff. Now that I'm retired and can choose not to drive in snowy weather, this stuff is the worst for me! Elza - You mentioned apple sauce and mashed potato...do you mix it? Mixed is a German dish called Heaven and Earth (Himmel und Erde). The dish is seasoned with sugar and vinegar to make it sweet & sour and served with browned butter. It's actually really good!!!! Tammy - We don't have a smoker, but DH used a small smoker box with some soaked chips last night. We liked the taste. We got new LLBean cards...company switched from Visa to Master Card so I had to change a whole bunch of stuff on my online banking, etc. That Law Enforcement Appreciation dinner is wonderful of your church to do. I would volunteer to work on that!!! Our officers are putting their lives on the line with this opioid stuff; I admire their commitment and bravery. Tasty - Love marmalade! You make good stuff!! I made the ham salad earlier this morning putting a jalapeno into the mix...yum! Tomato salad with Penzey's Fox Point has been marinated all day, too. Mom went out to lunch with her friend and brought us home a goody box of onion rings...DH started eating them w/o reheating...actually not bad...lol!!! Have a good evening, all! Waving!

Hello friends.
It's a pretty nice day here in San Diego. It's 75 and so lovely out.
We had grilled citrus chicken for lunch and some tortillas, mashed potatoes, veggies and salad. DDIL came over to watch the World Cup so she ate with us. I am keeping an eye on her as she had contractions last night that were strong enough to time. DS is working so I told her to stay here until his shifts ends. We haven't told my son as he gets worried. I never thought he would be such a worry wort. I don't think she is ready to have the baby. I think it's braxton hicks. But, she's better here where I can see her.
Tomorrow I have to have a crown where they did the root canal. I will be glad when the last 2 appts. are over.
Ann, I hope the humid, hot weather doesn't last. It is so draining.
Tammy, sorry to hear about the banking hassles. I hope you get it fixed quickly.
Lori, I am thinking about you and your family. I am holding you close to my heart. <3
I better get going. I feel I haven't gotten much done this weekend.
Have a great night.
Betsy

I just realized I didn't stop in here today. Ann--you and I are on the same page. I hate this stuff. I was so hoping for rain yesterday but all we got was a very light 10-minute shower that didn't do any good at all and made it more humid.
It has been so humid--I spent some time earlier this morning cleaning up in the kitties' kingdom upstairs and then went out, filled all the bird feeders, hauled water for the birdbath and to water a few perennials. Ugh! I was literally swimming in my own juices. Took a shower, washed my hair, and sat the rest of the afternoon working on my laptop in front of the air conditioner. Tomorrow is supposed to be worse but right now the thermometer in the shade is reading 96. Ugh!
I'm taking the easy way out for supper tonight--Hoffman's hot dogs and a side of some mac and cheese from the market. No energy to cook. I've boiled up macaroni and tomorrow will have a nice mac and shrimp salad for supper.
I bought some cold-brewed coffee concentrate the other day--I think I will have iced coffee for breakfast tomorrow. It's double strength--you just add water. I love iced coffee and am looking forward to having this. I read somewhere that using the concentrate in ice cream makes a really good homemade coffee ice cream. I may have to try this.
Time to think about supper. Have a good evening.
Birdy

Ann, I have not heard of that and would never have thought of mixing them! Interesting idea.

I went out to get the papers earlier this morning and haven't budged from the AC since. Supposedly, our daily thunderstorm will begin soon. Can't be soon enough! Supper will be a swiss cheese on rye sandwich with some cole slaw. Don't even feel like cooking. I'm happily hunkered down with the computer so will wander wherever the most interesting sites take me. Often, I feel like the computer is the encyclopedia of my childhood where one interesting fact leads you to dozens of others. Well ok, sweet dreams and comfort to all of us.
