Good morning.

I thought I had posted yesterday morning early but don't see it so I'll try again today and see if it works.

Yesterday was a long day, starting the set up for our annual yard sale at the curling club and then my golf game with the ladies.  I thought our group would have cancelled because of the heat but no, they wanted to play 🙄 - it really was way too hot but we  had supper  afterwards and that was good.  By the time I got home, I was beat.
Today will be more of the same, except the canning group will be my morning occupation and then on to the c/c from 2 until 7 pm.  No cooking tonight - hubby's night out and I will find something when I get home that needs no work.

Good morning. 67 and sunny. Possible showers this afternoon. This is to be our last real hot day. We will be in the 70's the next 2 days and Satuday and sundy in the 40's in the morning.

Didn't do much yesterday. Was just too tired. Didn't get out of work Tuesday night until almost 11. By the time I got home and wound down it was 12:30 before I got to bed and had to be us by 6:30. Had to go by ice for the Lion's Cook Shack and get everything set up for the hot dog booth. I did manage to get the greenhouse down and that was about it.

Had a nice surprise late afternoon. My cousin and his wife were in town from New Hampshire and wanted to stop in. WE had a nice visit catching up on each others families.

Today I plan to finish up the front deck. Still have 4 baskets to put together for that and decided where a lot of potted plants are going. Looks like I have a lot of watering to do today. Also hope to get the lamp post area finished today. One of the guests next door came over and put the new outlet in for me yesterday so now my fountain in working again and I can use the chainsaw again a lot further away from the house going up the drive.

Bet--lucky you. Your temps are better than ours down here in the valley. We are under another day of a heat advisory and the weather is supposed to break with strong thunderstorms tonight and early tomorrow--possible severe storms. Ugh! But after that, back to a lovely weekend in the 70's with good sleeping weather. I can't wait to turn off this air conditioner and get some real air for a change. Hope that this work schedule isn't going to wear you out in the heat. I bet you're looking forward to some cooler temps next week.

Ann--thanks for the suggestion of the TOH rib recipe. I looked it up. The rub sounds really good and the recipe is now in my files. I still have some rub I made from another recipe to use up this time but definitely will be trying this one. By the way--I followed the recommendation on ATK for the best smoked paprika--Simply Organic. It is really good--very smokey and sweet. I had to go to the Simply Organic web site to locate a store and luckily there's a natural foods market near me that carries it. Worth the hunt. I don't go out of my way to buy organic--I figure at my age it's probably too late, anyway. LOL! Lately I haven't been very happy with the paprika I've been using so I may try their regular, too. Another thing that made my last ribs nice and smokey besides the paprika in the rub was putting some liquid smoke in the pressure cooker liquid under the cooking rack. I don't put the ribs in the liquid, just steam them above.

This weekend is our huge 15K Boilermaker Road Race through the city--14,000 runners (and they have to turn people down because of space.) It's so good that the temps are going to be cooler. Heat and humidity have proven to be dangerous in the past. The first few years--starting in 1978--we actually had people hospitalized and one death from heart failure. Since then, they moved it to early morning and have impressive support along all the course. The race is internationally known for how well they treat their runners--and the quality of the goody bags that everyone gets. Lots of Canadians running as well as elite runners from all over the world. During Summer Olympic years, we often have Olympians using the race to warm up for the games. Believe me--for this small city this whole thing is a huge deal.

My street connects with Mile 2 of the run. Our whole neighborhood gets together with chairs and cheers for the runners (I've only missed one year)--and we wait for the last runner. My neighbor at the corner has an open house brunch for the neighbors and parties are held all over the city and suburbs. It's like a huge old-home weekend--family often comes in from all over the US and Canada. It's safe to say that there's probably not a chicken wing to be found in the stores by Sunday.

At the end of the race at the Utica Club Brewery, each runner gets a free beer or soda and food--plus people can buy their own if they didn't race. Just 30,000 folks behaving themselves and having a good time with live bands. I can hear the music 3 miles away at my house and there are overflights of jets on top of it. Whoohoo! By a little after noon, everyone goes home, the streets are clean, and they begin planning for the next year. These are a clean-cut, health-conscious group and there are very few problems with drinking, etc. Of course, homeland security is in full alert--invisible and visible--because of the times.

Well, I do run on. I plan to stay inside again today. It looks like I'll have to mow the lawn on Saturday--it keeps insisting on growing.

Good Hot morning friends! We are hopefully on our last over 90 degree day here too! We should be in the mid 70's by tomorrow and yep! 40's at night!

Bet- Sounds like you will sleep well tonight! Whew! I am tired just reading all you do! I on the other hand took a nap yesterday! I know I know so much hard work doing that but someone had to do it! Bwhahahaha!

Birdy- Sounds like a fun tome for you this weekend! I love a block party feeling! Stay cool today if you can!

Good morning friends.  Today is National Apple Turnover Day and National Graham Cracker Day.

No bike riding outside for me today--guess my 24 hour get away has caught up with me.  Not moving too fast, but I will force myself to get up on the stationary bike before the day is over.

After heavy rains last night, we began with a cool 71* this morning.  It felt so comfortable when DH was leaving for work at 5:30 this morning, but as the sun came out our temperatures rose.  Currently 81*, they say we'll climb to 89* later in the day before the late afternoon rains move in. 

I have chicken thigh/leg quarters marinating that we will grill for our meal this evening.  I also have a macaroni salad that I put together earlier this morning that we'll have with it as well as corn on the cob, and grilled peaches for a sweet ending.

Tasty, thanks for starting us off.  Hope the canning group made something you like this morning and that you have an enjoyable time at the curling club later today.

Bet, you sure have plenty to do around your home to keep you busy not to mention the Lions Club and recently added work.  Except for the odd night here or there, I'd guess you sleep like a baby once your head hits that pillow.  Wish I could send you some of our heavy rains to help you out with the watering.

Birdy, in the past I have had both the regular and the smoked paprika from Simply Organic and both are very good.  I use only one type of paprika however, the sweet Hungarian paprika.  Both of my grandmothers (born in Hungary) and my mother only cooked with it, so I guess I fell right into the same pattern.

I enjoyed reading about your Boilermaker Road Race weekend--sounds like a fun event for everything that partakes or doesn't.

Chris, your iced HC sounds good.  The heat and humidity got the best of me while over at DD's and I broke down and stopped at a Dunkin' Donut for my 1st iced coffee this year.  Usually make it myself at home, but was just feeling drippy, like I was in a sauna yesterday morning--had to pick one up before we got on Alligator Alley and headed back to home.

Better force myself off the computer and "try" to get something done around here, but it's not feeling like it isn't going to be a real productive day here.

Good morning all. 

It's getting hot here in San Diego.  We are finally catching up with the rest of you. 

We had a nice bbque yesterday.  

I have a root canal in about an hour. I have a few teeth that are bothering me but he is doing one for now.  Fun day. 

Birdy, thank you for kind words about dd.  I enjoyed reading you info about Stats.  She is so good in math but just hated that class so much.  She enjoyed the teacher very much as she talked to the kids a lot about her life.  DD is pleased with getting a 4. I know she wanted a perfect 5 but after she took the test she said she would be happy with a 3.You can see as dd matured her AP scores were higher.  She got a 3 on her AP ART History exam in 10th grade and a 4 on the test that year and then she got 4 and 5 the next year.    Youngest dd is taking an AP class as a 9th grader this year and I am bit worried.  She is very smart but tends to not like to be bothered.  So I will be watching to see how she does.  She knows high school means she has to work harder. 

Lori, so nice you got to see dd.  I am amazed you and dh fixed the ac. Nice to be handy like that.  

Dinner will be whatever they cook.  I am going to take the day off after the root canal.  I bet they get take out.

Went out and dead headed some plants and decided to pull some Rhubarb and got 14 cups so far. I put up in 4 c pkgs. so will finish it maybe tomorrow. It was cloudy and nice time to pull it.

I will go out and mow the rest of my lawn today. I got the main yard done yesterday so will finish rest today. I was going to go get some groceries but will see what happens tomorrow. Have papers to sign at ASC office on Dad's CRP ground so whoever buys it gets the cash for it. It was amazing to see Terry did mow the grass yesterday up there.

We were to get rain and it was lightning when I went to bed but not a thing. The food was so-so at church. Looked like everyone just hurried and put something together. The homemade ice cream was so good!! I had a bowl of strawberry ice cream. I did also have a piece of sour cream raisin pie and it was too sweet.

Will see what I can find for dinner here. Everyone have a nice day.

Hello !

Here is a quick hi from me. I need to leave in about 15 minutes to go play bunco. I heard that this week there are more subs playing than regulars; so many are out of town or are not well.

I woke up really early so got up and played on the computer for a bit then laid back down and slept some. I got myself ready and headed to town. I bought things to make some spaghetti sauce and meatballs-that will be supper with some garlic bread. I also got a small pork roast and may make that tomorrow.

Yesterday I played cards in the evening then came home, and DH went to bed shortly after that. I watched Guy's Grocery Games, so did not even watch fireworks this year.

DH drove over to Beaumont to the food bank and picked up food for the Care center. He brought back about 70 watermelons. The kitchen here was not thrilled with that many! I took 10 of them and will take them to church on Sunday (I called the lady in charge first).

Hello All,

I have been missing again but hope to post more often now. I have decided to sell our house in Paradise and move closer to DD in Texas. Big decision but it will be nice to finally live in the same city she does. Lots of work around here, of course, getting ready to sell. And hard, too, in many ways. This house goes on the market tomorrow so will have to keep it spotless at all times. Tonite's supper will be whatever Stouffer's meal comes to hand. I will once again be striving to use up as much food as I can from the freezer and pantry. I will try to catch up with what all of you have been doing. Hope it was a nice holiday for everyone.

I am excited for you Helen. That is a big decision but I am sure you and DD will all be happier. Where you live now is a beautiful place. You were lucky to be able to call it home for so long.

Birdy, the race sounds like a lot of fun for everybody. How nice to make it a neighborhood event and enjoy the runners.

Lori, your grilled chicken sounds good and so does the iced coffee! I was thinking about that this weekend. 

Chris, back in the 80s I spent a summer in Portugal and one hotel we stayed at provided room service breakfast, with your choice of coffee or hot chocolate every morning. I always got the coffee, but one of the other girls in my room requested her hot chocolate to be chilled. Good stuff!

Marlene, homemade ice cream is the best. I've never had raisin pie.

DH had chicken stir fry ready for dinner when I got home. I've got laundry going now and catching up online. It was rainy and thundery this morning but hasn't been as hot -- I think the high today was only 89! Looks like slightly cooler temps the rest of this week, but back to the 90s by next week.

It has been hot and humid here today. Heat index was 100. I have been a real wimp today. I actually put the A/C on for a while this morning. I have spent the day outside for a bit and then inside doing things for a lot longer. I did manage to get the cover for the greenhouse folded and put away. Got the canopy on the second greenhouse frame and the 8 baskets that are done for there deadheaded, watered and hung. Also deadheaded the 12 baskets on the other greenhouse frame. Watered front deck, back deck, garage and side porch.

Besides coming in to drip dry I got the garbage and recycles out and did some picking up. Unfortunately there is still a lot of picking up to do. Addison and I worked on a craft project. It cost me money as I got tired of cutting Popsicle with a box cutter and ordered a circular saw to go on my dremel.

My power went off about 4:45 and they are saying it should be restored by 7. If it isn't one by the time I go to bed I may just turn the generator off so I don't have to listen to it and get some sleep.

Betsy, congrats on your your DD's test scores.

Chris, I hope the forecast is correct and we get a cool down.

Helen, that is a big decision you have had to make.  I am lucky that both my children and my DGD all live withing 7 miles of me.  I know someday I will have to face selling this house but am going to hang in as long as I can and not a burden on the kids.

Marlene, glad to see that Terry did mow.  Sounds like he is in for a rude awakening when the farm goes up for auction.

Lori, that was a crazy fast trip to made but I guess we all do what we have to do when it comes to our kids.  There was a plus side your got to visit.

Betsy, are you suppose to get a break in this heat and humidity.

Ann, I always enjoying reading about your cooking and also seeing photos.  I haven't done anything exciting with cooking lately.  Too busy.

Power just came back on.

Waving to all I missed.  I read everyday but old brain doesn't remember at much as it used to.

Dinner tonight is hot dogs and potato salad.  I do have a dessert for bedtime that Addison and DS made. It is a Pioneer Woman nectarine and and blueberry crisp.  Addison saw the show on Tuesday and just had to have the recipe.  It sounds good.

Elza, My gardens are a mess but am making progress.  Have so many things I want to do but at my age energy isn't always what I want it to be.  By this weekend the decks and a couple of other areas should be finished and I will post a couple of Pictures.

Bet- I am really hoping for a cool down. I made Dan take me out on the bike tonight just to cool off a bit. We went to Ludlow and got pizza from the American Pie Factory. Tasted really good!

Elza- When we were in Portugal for 3 weeks I had HC a lot. Loved theirs a lot. What city were you in? I was in Coimbra and Porto and then in Lisboa!
