Good morning friends.
Temps will be in the high 80's today.
Lori, I was sweating thinking about all the outdoor work you did yesterday.
(((Marlene))) I'm happy your family is with you now and can help you.
I'm going to grill a pork tenderloin tonight with rosemary, thyme and Dijon.
Enjoy your day.

Good morning. 61 this morning and to be in the 70's today. That's my kind of weather. Our heat index was 101 yesterday. I did work out on the deck for about 2 hours while Annabelle was sleeping. Got three more basket done. Just 8 to go so thing I will finish them up today. Also did a lot of dumping and cleaning up out there. I would really like to have the greenhouse done by the weekend.
With all the heat we have been having I think I understand a saying I used to hear that the folks are laid back and move slow unlike the northerns who seem to be moving fast all the time. Yesterday in the heat I was moving slow.
I haven't been doing much cooking lately and usually don't know what I am going to eat until I start making it lately so do enjoy reading about all the cooking you folks do. That will soon change however as schools get out here on Friday so I will start have Gkids most everyday so will be making things for them which many times includes breakfast, lunch and snacks.
Marlene, hugs to you. Glad you have family there with you. Please now take some time for yourself.
Lori, does DH hire out. I have lots of windows that need washing.
Nancy, hope you and the girls enjoyed the pool yesterday.
It was nice to see that both Helen and Doris dropped by.
Tammy, your baking sounds great as usual. I am glad the kids will be here more fore the summer. It gives me someone to bake for.
Betsy, I hope you get some rain to help keep the fires down. My niece's DH is a front line fire fighter and I know he spends a lot of time in California with all the fires you have had over the past few years.
Elza, enjoy your time off. If you come to Binghamton you will only be about 4 hours from me and even closer to Birdy. That will be a long trip for you.
Have a great day.

Good morning, all. I've been absent for a few days--too tired to log in at the end of the day. Yesterday was a no-cooking day for me. I don't usually eat out twice in the same day but it was so hot and humid yesterday that it was nice to be in air-conditioning all that time. My thermometer at the house read 99 but that wasn't the official temp which was in the low 90's. With a dewpoint in the 70's, it was miserable. I certainly hope this isn't setting up a pattern for the summer. Thankfully, this morning is much cooler and we will be in the 70's today. I chose the tenderloin option for the banquet last night. It was sooooo good. I don't cook something like that at home. The steak came with a creamy blue cheese sauce on top, fried onion stips, asparagus, and garlic mashed potatoes. Lovely salad beforehand with a balsamic dressing, dried cranberries, baby lettuces, and pignoli nuts. Dessert was key lime pie. Num, num! I guess it's back to hot dogs today! LOL! I was surprised when the group gave me a thank you gift for supervising their catered lunch the two days of the workshop last month. It was very thoughtful--a cookbook! The Huckleberry Cookbook is written by the son and DIL of one of our members and has many unusual recipes. Wild huckleberries are a little hard to find in this part of the world although they do exist. Good thing that you can substitute blueberries. My friend who raises blueberries has strongly recommended the blueberry chicken salad recipe. I'll let you know how it is--they also gave me a box of blueberries. All I need is the chicken and I'm good to go. Elza--I live about 90 miles north of Binghamton. If you do get to the area, be sure to try the local spiedies. This is an Italian specialty that began there--my brother used to live in a suburb back when I was in college. He learned to make them and introduced me--it's a popular grilling ritual there. Made right, they are wonderful. They are marinated meat kabobs, traditionally beef, but it could be almost anything. They're grilled and then pulled off the skewer with a slice of squishy Italian bread and eaten out of hand. They are soooo good! I should move my bones. I've been sitting around drinking coffee and enjoying the cooler air. Have a good day, everyone. Birdy

Good morning.
I was up early today and walked the dogs. DD has an orthodontic appt this morning. The painter is coming later to look at few rooms I want repainted. Also need to take one of the dogs to the vet. for his med. Busy day.
Bet, what part of the state does your niece live? We are in San Diego.
Nancy, your dinner sounds so good. I think I will grill some hot dogs and Italian sausages.
Ds and Dil were over last night. She is getting tired and has about 4 weeks of work left before she starts her "nesting" period. That is what her company calls it.
Waving to all.

Betsy, they actually live in NY State. He is flown all over the country to these fires. Not sure if he works for a private company or if it has something to do with government.

Good afternoon friends. Taking a quick break
Not much happening here, just trying to do some odds and ends like laundry, cleaning off the dinning room table, straightening up the pantry, and making something easy for dinner (salad tonight with leftover grilled chicken on top).
Waiting for DH to come in from work with my car and then we will go over to pick up his truck.
(((Marlene))) so glad your family is there with you today. You continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.
Waving to all.

Hello, Marlene, you are in my thoughts and prayers today. Hugs to you.
I saw that roast beef was on the menu for lunch so called to get my reservation in and found out they are having beans and sausage instead. That was originally planned for Sunday, but they surprised everyone and served steak for Father's Day. So, we ate sandwiches, as I happened to buy some lunchmeat when I was at the meat market yesterday.
I am thawing a roast and was going to have it tomorrow, but may end up cooking it for tonight.
I will probably make a run to the grocery store seeing as I forgot to buy sour cream. We are also nearly out of milk.
Right now I have a pan of coffee cake muffins in the oven. It only made 12 so will need to mix up another batch I think. I am hoping the bananas that I bought are ripe enough to smash for my banana nut muffins. If not, I do have the food processor and can get them smoothed out enough to use I think.
Waving to all from cloudy Texas. We have not gotten very much rain here. It seems to be south and east of us. Glad for that!
Edited to add: I think the cinnamon chips aka white chips shaken with cinnamon extract, will be ok. I baked the snickerdoodles then wrapped them and placed them in the freezer, so I have not actually tasted them. When I cut them, I may take a nibble and will let you know.

My house cleaners were here today so I went to the grocery while they were dusting and mopping. Temp feels like 100 so I was quick to get there and get back home to my AC. I really think this sensitivity to heat is yet another gift of aging. Supper will be the rotisserie chicken I picked up along with marinated cucumbers and tomatoes. Apple crisp for dessert. I won't forget the scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. Thinking of you, Marlene.

Good evening. Didn't have time to get here this morning - we had our first Festival of Trees meeting this morning 🙄. Altho we have started canning, I'm not ready to be planning for late November, not when summer hasn't even officially arrived yet.
The last meeting of our craft group was this afternoon, next week we'll have a potluck lunch and then we're done until September.
Supper will be lasagne and some salad.

Good evening friends.
Been on the computer so much at work with all the HUD training I am a bit sick of being on LOL
Nancy- We were cooler today. I love your dinner!
Bet- We had a lot of damage locally here from the storms yesterday. I did not see it until I went to work this morning! It did cool down though.
Birdy- I like the sound of those "spiedies" Never heard of them but they sound really good. I think I will look them up and maybe make them one night next week.
Betsy- You must be getting excited about the Grandchild! Good for you!
Lori- I bet you will be glad to have your house all done. Sounds like you have done a lot of work on it.
Tammy- Lots of baking for you right now. I would like to know how the snicker-doodles came out.
Helen- We cooled off up here! Come on up and cool off!
Tasty- Thinking of November stuff already! Wow! LOL DS and I are going to do some strawberry preserves next weekend. At least I hope!
Marlene- Thinking of you and holding you close!

Birdy, thanks for the tip on the spiedies! Will be on the lookout for those. If we go, we won't be there long. Our nephew who plays minor league ball will be there for an away series that ends Thursday night. So we are hoping we might get to see him, if only briefly. Looks like it is not too long a drive from Baltimore -- so far, the longest stretch of the trip will be on Friday from here to the coast of NC.
Hot, hot, hot here today too. Looks like we may get some storms this weekend. I hope that the outdoor wedding on Saturday in NC does not get rained on!
Marlene, thinking of you today. Hope it all went well and you can take some time to rest.
