Hello friends. Today is National Applesauce Cake Day.
The phones are no longer buzzing--yea!! Last evening, after I related to DH what the Frontier repairman told me about the house alarm, he said he disagreed. He went outside, looked at things close up, and decided to disconnect a phone line to DD's former bedroom where there is no longer a phone. That did it!! He found that the line had a small nick in it, probably from when the new lawn was installed and then once our rainy season began, so did our problems with the phones. Mr. Jack of All Trades said he will replace the line himself at a later date.
There are showers out in the Gulf this morning but as they approach land they are falling apart. It was another hot morning to wake up to--83* at 4am. It has since dropped down to a muggy 79*, high near 90* today.
Nancy, yes, I saw about the death of Kate Spade. I had no idea her BIL was actor David Spade. Guess the saying is true--no amount of fame nor money can make a person happy. So sad--I feel for her young daughter.
Dinner this evening will be roasted red pepper chicken and a zucchini mushroom bake.
Waving to all and wishing each of you a wonderful Wednesday!

Back again--- I forgot to mention, thank you once more to Birdy and Tasty for sharing your recipes for the quick breads containing the orange juice. The recipes sound good and my plan is to make all of them and freeze so I can enjoy them and also share with family and friends.
Your help was much appreciated! Lori

Good morning friends.
Thank you for starting us off Lori.
I too feel bad for Kate's daughter. She's only 13 y.o. too. I wonder what made her do this?
Leftovers for dinner tonight.
Enjoy your day.

I heard a comment this morning in regards to Kate Spade--or anyone, for that matter. You don't know what anyone is dealing with beneath the surface, so be kind. How true . . . And how much kindness seems to have been lost in society.
I have one more BB Orange recipe I think is slightly different. I'm at the car dealership having some servicing done so I'll check it when I get home.

Going to go to town later and going to take care of things at ASCS office on dad's farm. That is needed to done. I am meeting an auctioneer up there tomorrow. We will auction the farm later to pay the bill at the bank for their care in nursing home. We still will have Mom's farm to deal with when she is gone but will have the bank bill paid. There has been so many things to take care of. You all need to have insurance on health care when going to these care centers!! If they did not have their farms they would have been on state care, which no one wants.
Sat down in my chair here and have a kitty at my feet!! What a baby he is, follows be all over the house if he is not sleeping. Woke me at 4 to go outside let him eat then back out and now back in. This is our usual morning!!
Will go to visitation for the little gal 54 that passed due to cancer. Funeral will be Thursday. I am sure it will be so sad. She really fought for her life and had to give up. She worked at a bank after she lost her DH. They farmed when he was alive.
Everyone have a good day!!

Good morning. We are having a heat wave this morning it is 49. I guess we just got spoiled with the warm weather in May. I checked my journal for last year and it was in the 40's the first 8 days of June last year. So need to put my long johns back on and face the weather that we are being dealt. One might say I took yet another day off yesterday. I did manage to get the carpet cleaned up from the plants that were in the living room all winter. Three left to go outside but they don't make a mess so will just wait for warmer weather. Annabelle was here for a few hours but not at nap time so I spent that time with here. I did get the stand I got at the garage sale glued and hope to pain it today. I was hoping to get outside and get some things done today as it did dry up pretty good yesterday even though there wasn't much sun but it rained again overnight to real wet again this morning and we aren't suppose to see much sun here today. Quiet time this morning was spent planning things I would like to do this summer in the yard rather than what I will do today. Not a good sign. Adding more work and not getting anything done is a bad idea.
Lori, it is amazing that techs can't find a problem when it is right in front of their face if the only did their job. Glad the phone is taken care of.
Marlene, with all you have to deal with right now it most be very stressful. I think Red is being a real true friend trying to relieve some of it. Maybe not the 4 AM nature call however.
Have a great day.

Afternoon, friends! It's another cloudy day, but it's beginning to warm up. Grrrr! I am so mad...we have a woodchuck (in the city!!)and it's eating my plants!!! Have to sic DH on it!!! Last night our neighbor came over to give us a HUGE container of "boughten" potato salad that was left from a graduation party. Coincidentally, there was a discussion about what to do with lots of potato salad besides just eating it. One suggestion was to roast it. (This potato salad was a mayo one.) It's not particularly to my taste because of the added sugar, but when I roasted a small amount to see how it would came out, it came out wonderfully and was delicious. I brought a sample to the folks at the senior center, and they went bonkers over it!!! I also gave a whole bunch away! When I got home, I roasted the rest with a finely diced onion. We will have it tonight with DH's pork tenderloin with pan sauce and TOH's spicy asparagus. LINK for the article and procedure. Thanks for the quick bread recipes Tasty, Birdy, & Elza. I ran them all off. I have some cranberries in the freezer to use up, so I'll start with one of those. Birdy - How did your cream of celery soup come out. I've never made it! Bet - Love scampi! The cottage you have next door sounds like a heavenly retreat. No vacation for us, though. Unless I can get my absentee brother to cover caring for my mother. I'm not holding my breath, but he has done a few things to help out lately!!! Lori - Tuesday's dinner sounded so good. Was it a recipe or did you wing it? Nancy - I don't pay attention to the fashion news so I didn't know Kate Spade. Such a sad happening. We had a family member commit suicide; the question of "why" never goes away because it can never be answered on this earth. Tammy - Every time I read about the pork tenderloin sandwiches, I resolve to make them...but then I forget!!! I have some tenderloin "tails" in the freezer. Maybe I'll remember to use them for those! Enjoy the day. Waving!

Good Afternoon! Glad the phone problem is solved, Lori. Thank goodness for clever DH's!
We had the power go out late lastnight. I was still up. DH had been in bed a couple hours. I heard a bang and then all went black. I had just gotten 2 candles lit, when the power came back on. A little bit later DH's phone started dinging with text messages. It was Crystal the secretary texting DH and Lisa (the activity director). For some reason we had power, when the care center, and Lisa's rv did not. W are located exactly halfway between the 2. The first thought was that the generator was on and working like it should. Later he text said no it was not even on. That's when I woke DH and he had to get up and go over. He pushed the "manual" button and it worked fine. He has a call in to the company today, to come and check it. By the time he got over there, and got the generator going, the repairman was already here and replacing a fuse on the transformer, so the power came back on. It was not bad weather, so not sure what caused the problem.
DH is here for lunch. We are having leftovers trying to clean out the fridge some. I was not sure about supper and did not see much in the freezer, so looked in the pantry and found a package for making chicken pot pie in the slow cooker. I think I have most all the ingredients. Don't have frozen peas and carrots, but I have fresh carrots. Don't have chicken broth, but have lots of bouillon cubes. I am thinking of using my I.P as a slow cooker.
Planning on getting my nails done this afternoon, then coming home and bathing the dogs, packing. I will go play cards at 6 p.m..
I got a call last night that a new volunteer couple wanted to play hand and foot, so I went over last night and played for a couple hours.
DH said he needs to be off by 2:45 this afternoon-the powers that be don't ever want to let him have more than 40 hours.
Bet, I disagree that making plans is a waste of time-so to speak. The Bible says where there is no vision the people perish. It's good to have long range plans. I'm sure there is plenty to do on a daily basis around your home and property.
Very sad about Kate Spade. I also feel very bad for her DD.
DH just left so I am going to head to the salon. Have a very nice day friends! Waving!

Ann--the celery soup didn't happen. I got busy and then hungry, so I opened a good can of soup--Zuppa Mediterranean Clam Soup by Bar Harbor from Hannaford's. I've really enjoyed this stuff and keep a can or two on hand. Nice hot soup went well yesterday. It's a little warmer today but still gloomy and damp. Supposedly tomorrow is going to be better. I'm planning on taking a ride to Syracuse to walk around Wegman's and pick up a few things.
I found yet another, different Blueberry Orange Bread recipe that I have had for quite a long time. I have no idea where it is from. I'll post this one and then I guess we will have enough! LOL. I'll post the ones inside this thread separately so that they are easier to find later if need be.
Talk to you later.

OK--we are now officially on overload for blueberry orange bread. I'm really getting hungry for some of this after going over all these recipes. Yum!
I've been adding to by collection of Better than Bouillon flavors. I found Roasted Garlic this morning at the small family market where I like to shop. They often have things you can't find other places. I also recently found Fish base for making fish-based soups and stews, Ham base which will be great for bean soup, and Mushroom base which I've read makes a wonderful starter for mushroom soup. These bases aren't overly salt and it lasts forever. I plan to pop the jars in the freezer once they are open which should extend their lives even more. I have a recipe for a garlic pasta dish that I may have to try with the roasted garlic base. Nummy.

Birdy, I am starting to find the better than bullion in the stores here but only the basics. I have chicken at the moment, in fact I am going to be using it tonight for dinner.
This weather has to change so I can get outside and away from the TV I never watch TV during the day but I was working on furniture in the house so was watching Food Network. It is great to have a well stocked pantry, refrigerator and freezer. Tonight I am having a Cuban dinner. Black bean soup which I have never eaten but had dry black beans in the pantry which are on cooking and all of the other ingredients for it. Am making a Cuban Sandwich with pulled pork that I have leftover in the freezer and everything else that goes in it.

Birdy, a very big thank you for taking the time to post all the recipes for quick bread that I requested help with yesterday--it is deeply appreciated!! I also thank individual posters for sharing their recipes. By doing that, I was able to see that that you've posted another recipe Birdy and also there was one from Elza that I had missed some place. Once again, thanks to all. I have copied all the recipes and plan to, in time, make each recipe.
Ann, the dish I made last night for dinner, Garlic-Thyme Chicken with Cauliflower, Potatoes, and Olives is an actual Weight Watchers recipe that my neighbor turned me on to. We love it. If you'd like the recipe, let me know and I'll share it with you.
It finally rained several short periods this afternoon, but not enough to cool things down. Since I wasn't able to work in the yard, I took the last cookie dough out of the refrigerator and baked up the peanut butter cookies. Right now I have 3 different cookies for FIL and 2 different zucchini breads. I hope to send along at least one type of the orange blueberry breads too.
Bet, I love Cuban food. I have a teacher friend that was born in the US, but raised in Cuba by her DGM. When we both were still teaching she would bring in all kinds of goodies for us. Big difference here in Florida with Cuban food down in Miami and the Cuban food up in Tampa, but I like them both and either spot, black bean soup is always a must.
DH just informed me he's done in the shower so I can put dinner on the table. Have a good evening friends.

Hey to everybody. We are all busy this week -- I got a number of little things done around the house last night, and then ran errands on my lunch hour today. So after work, choir practice, and dinner, I am trying to take it easy tonight. I do have clothes in the dryer, and just got the checkbook caught up. I also ought to go practice for a while too, to get ready for Sunday, but that may or may not happen.
Lori, Applesauce Cake Day is one I would enjoy celebrating. The recipe in my old Betty Crocker cookbook is nice and easy. I've always liked spice cake.
Birdy, thanks for posting all the quick bread recipes separately. They all look good.
Marlene, you are getting a lot done and gradually working down the list. I think you will be glad that you went on and made the arrangements for your MIL. My parents both did that and when they died, we did not have to make any decisions -- everything was taken care of.
Nancy, I saw the news about Kate Spade last night. It is so sad to think of someone who wants so badly to stop the pain they are experiencing that they will take their own life.
Tammy, how did your chicken pot pie turn out? Sounds like you had a good combination of things for it.
Bet, your dinner sounds delicious. I love a Cuban sandwich, and black bean soup too. One of my professors in college was Cuban and he used to make the best black bean and rice dish, called "congri." I've made it a few times. You cut up a green pepper and onion and soak those with the beans overnight, then cook it all in the same liquid the next day, along with some cooked diced pork. Serve over rice, topped with crumbled cooked bacon. So good!
Ann, I would have never thought of cooking potato salad! How long do you roast it? DH might like that -- he is a big fan of potato salad. Me, not so much.
