Good morning. I was interested to see how varied the tests are that you folks take for bone density. I was never told anything about avoiding certain things. As for what I was wearing, I had to get into a usual charming coverup with nothing on--just to have my legs scanned! Come to think of it, I haven't had one in a while so perhaps my new doctor will want me to get one soon.
I used my Instant Pot to make a pot roast yesterday. Pressure cooking a pot roast is nothing new for me--I don't think my mother ever made one any other way. Lately, I've been using a crockpot but found a bargain piece of meat about 1 3/4 lb. and decided to cook it right away. I followed directions from other people online using the IP since it cooks at a lower temperature than a stovetop. The meat turned out fork tender but was a little on the dry side. I can't decide if it was the cooking time or the cut I used. I have always been used to using a 7-bone chuck roast but this one was what they called a round tip roast. I think that translates to bottom round. I know it is leaner but seemed to have some marbling. Anyway, online they were calling for 45 minutes but I did mine for 42 with a natural release and a rest. The gravy was great so I see some roast beef hash and beef in gravy in my future. I might even make some potato pancakes to go with the latter--a family tradition since we are German. All in all, though, I've been pretty happy with the IP.
Have a good day, all.
Birdy

Thanks for starting us off today Tasty. Enjoy your golf game and dinner out. When I golfed years ago I took Wed. off for golf and we always had a dinner which ladies made groups and served lunch with golfers and card players. The course was closed to men until 4:00 and they were always waiting unless once a month we had the whole day and played a special game at night. The men had Thursday all day and night. Those were fun days.
Will be nice to get your nails done Betsy. I never do the nails very often I can mess them up in a big hurry!! Love those pedicures. I have beef thawed and will make some burrito's today. Think will mow the main yard again today to get it lower as rain is in the forecast again. I mowed it higher yesterday did not want a mess out there. We are to be in 90's today and tomorrow so will probably get some storms too.
Take care everyone and have a nice day. Wish I was Chris and taking it easy for few days!!

Good afternoon friends. Today is National Taffy Day and World Turtle Day. Also, I am personally celebrating today the birthday of my niece and a dear friend from my college days.
MIL will not be bringing FIL home after all. The doctor sent some agency out to the house late yesterday to measure hallway and door space--neither will fit the wheelchair. MIL isn't happy about that one bit, but my DH is thrilled. Supposedly she is going to check out another long term rehab center today.
Woke this morning to find 4 apps I had on my phone have vanished overnight. I spent time entering them back on the phone and then drove over to both Sprouts and Lucky's Farm Markets. Got many good deals, so when I came home I had lots of fruits and veggies to clean and put away.
Our rain chance is a little lower today so I hope to grill some fish this evening. Sides will be corn on the cob and a small salad. Cantaloupe for dessert.
Waving to all. Lori

Good afternoon, friends! Didn't get on yesterday; we had a meeting with our financial guy that took all afternoon! Another banner day here. Windows and porch door are open. We went shopping today instead of closer to the holiday weekend so I just finished putting up the meat and stashing everything else. I'm hoping DH will pull out the grill so we can use it on Saturday to cook thick porterhouse pork chops. Watching The Chew. Carla is making a chopped cheese sandwich...never heard of it! She specifically said it's not like an Iowa loose meat! Looks good, but weird thing is that it starts out as a patty and Carla chops it all up and mixes the meat with pickles and fried onions, pushes the meat together into a patty shape and tops it with cheese. I could save a step by starting with hamburger...? I've had two bone density PDXA tests. I had to insert my middle finger into a tube like appliance. Scored perfect on each. Will have to check with my new PCP who will have to check my old records for when I have to have another test. One thing that my new doctor was pleased about was that I was doing aerobic & strength exercises so much every week. Chris - Have a wonderful mini-vacation. Have some Piers French fries for me!!!! I just read an article about "Footbridge Beach" in Ogunquit. Had never heard of it, but it's supposed to be beautiful and secluded. LINK"If you are staying in the Northern part of the town of Ogunquit, you are able to access the beach via a footbridge. This footbridge leads to Footbridge Beach. This is actually part of Ogunquit beach. It is north of the main beach and close to Wells Beach. All of Ogunquit beach is magnificent --all sand, no rocks."Lori - Glad MIL got headed off at the pass so to speak!!! I saw a report on what your weather will be like this weekend...stay dry! I don't have a smart phone, but I can imagine the hassle of reinstalling stuff that goes poof! Birdy - That cut of meat is dry...I grew up on bottom round pot roast...always smells fantastic cooking, but it is dry. Miss Vickie's beef cooking chart, the way I read it, says 25 minutes for the size roast you cooked. I now use a cut called chuck filet or a tied chuck roast, and I also buy choice instead of select cuts. Hash and potato pancakes will be delicious!!! Have you tried cauliflower pancakes? I have a recipe, but haven't made them yet. LINKTammy - Rotten luck on not getting an IP yet! Hope you won't have a long wait. Tasty - I made some quick Broccoli cheese soup for my mother using a big bag of frozen broccoli florets, a bag of chopped onions, a quart of vegetable stock + 4 cups water. Blended that and returned it to the pot and added 1/4 pound chopped American cheese. DH & I sampled it, and DH wanted another cup...so delicious. I was thinking of trying cauliflower next. Tonight we are having the turkey breast I cooked in the pressure cooker, gravy, plain mashed potato (IMO better for gravy), and mashed butternut. Hope everyone has a great day. Waving!

Hello, It is raining here this afternoon. Not hard, and it will clear out soon, so can't complain. We need the rain. I'm sure the garden is loving it.
DH is home early today. He had to go in at 6 a.m. yesterday because of voting day. The care center is the local polling place. As of 2:30 he had his 40 hours in.
I woke up around 5 and finally got up at 6. I got over to the lab at 8:15 for blood work. The dr told me it opened at 8, but the sign said they open at 8:30! So I waited then did my blood draw. I stopped by the store that installed our new radio in the car and talked to the guy who installed it. He told me how to get it changed over to am instead of fm. There is a station I like to listen to when I am in Houston.
When I got home I tried doing some cross stitch on the tablet but could hardly keep my eys open so I took a little nap.
I got 6 bowls of tiramisu done, and delivered to the coffee shop.
I was not sure all day about what to have for supper. I did not think I had any bacon, but I do, so it is B-no L-T sandwiches with some garden tomatoes I need to use.
I was able to sign up for the trip to north Houston tomorrow, so will be away 9 - 3. We are shopping at Petco, the a large grocery store and eating lunch then home. There will be around 8 of us.
Ann, the soup sounds delicious. I saw some news that "The Chew" is going to be cancelled so they can run a 3rd hour of Good Morning America.
Lori, hope and pray all works out well for FIL.
Waving to everyone. I'm really thirsty so just made a cup of iced tea, need to go and grab it!

Tammy, thank you for mentioning that The Chew has gotten the ax--I had no idea. I am disappointed to see that as I have enjoyed the show for seven seasons now. The recipes I have gotten and made have all been good too. I personally don't think we need a 3rd hour of GMA in the afternoons, but what will be will be. Lori

DH had sloppy joes ready tonight -- I get so spoiled during the summer when he is home and cooks dinner!
Good news this morning -- the bank robbery suspect was caught by local police. Big sigh of relief. He hit 3 banks in 2 days.
I'm trying to get things together for the weekend. (Actually, I'm not trying very hard today. I will be tomorrow, though. :) ) We are going to Summerville to spend the weekend w/ DMIL. DS#2 will be there too. Also, we'll get to see both of our nieces, one of our nephews, and our adorable great-niece Magnolia. Looking forward to it!

Elza, glad the got the bank robber. Jeesh.
I had not heard about the Chew. I watched the first season but then stopped watching it.
Lori, thinking of you and the inlaw issues. I see FIL is not going to the house. My MIL is acting up. She took over her mother's trust and let's just say MIL took care of herself by doing that. It's sad. Lots of fighting going on and bitter words.
Wishing you all a peaceful night.

Ann, I made a cauliflower soup not too long ago. We had some just a few days ago and it was OK , just not as good as I had hoped. I definitely prefer a broccoli soup 🙄
It has been a busy day here. Some gardening early on, then a run into town to deliver lunch, back home for barely a couple of hours and then back to town to golf. Now I'm home and tomorrow I'm going NOWHERE, absolutely nowhere! I'd like to garden, do some baking and have some downtime. I feel as if I have been running and running . . .
Have a good night.
Elza, glad to see the bank robber was caught. I was involved in a few robberies during the last few years of my working life. Not a pleasant experience.
