Good morning Ann and to all that follow. Today is International No Diet Day. That's probably a good thing since it's also National Crepes Suzette Day--yum!
Staying home today. DH hopes to get the lawn cut before the rain returns later today. I have laundry waiting to be done after my morning coffee and a bike ride. Planning to bar-b-q some leg quarters for dinner and sides will be spiral sweet potatoes fries and loaded mashed cauliflower.
Hope to get back here later. Have a lovely day friends.

Good morning Ann. Thanks for starting us off.
Not sure what's going on here - I am stiff and achy after golfing yesterday. Being stubborn (who?, me?) I decided, it's only 9 holes, I'll walk - big mistake. When I got home afterwards, stopping to shop on the way, I also did some gardening 🙄. By the time I came indoors, I was totally wiped out. And by the time hubby got home, IIwas just about asleep on the couch. However, today is a new day. Some gardening is certainly on the agenda. I'd like to finish in the raspberry patch.

Ann--same weather here. But it's going to get a lot cooler in the coming week, highs in the 60's early in the week.
One thing about Riggies--I don't cringe at adaptations because everyone around here has their favorite way of making them (notice the recipe with Cajun seasoning--not very Italian.) Well, let me amend that to say versions other than Rachel Ray's. She so totally ignored this area where they originated when giving credit when she did them on her show that it got my back up and I won't even consider her version. She's from the north eastern part of the state and considers anything west of the Hudson as "western NY" apparently.
People who like them really hot make them really hot. You can make them vegetarian with mushrooms. I personally like to keep the olives whole rather than sliced--and this is one place where the mild canned black California olives seem to work the best. Something like the strongly flavored Kalamata's or Italian olives take over the dish a little more than I would like. Personally, I decided the recipe using the pre-made Alfredo sauce would be a nice shortcut. When I make them, I'm going to try the light Alfredo instead of cream to see how it works.
I chickened out on slicing the onions yesterday. I forgot that I had a gallery opening to go to in the afternoon at the art museum for our student show. Somehow, the idea of walking around reeking of onions wasn't a good idea! LOL! So today I play with my onions in the house since there appears to be rain in my future.
Have a good day, everyone.

I was worn out when I got home yesterday. Sat in my chair and fell asleep! That is a long drive for me anymore. So glad I went to the cemeteries yesterday too. It was a nice day with the family. Got to see some you never get to see unless you go to a funeral. Had a nice luncheon there and they ran out of food there too. My nephew did an eulogy and did a fine job for his Mom. She will be missed by all of us. She always made us home made cards and they were beautiful!! I have so many from her so plan to make a little book out of them. Birthdays and Christmas cards. Talk about desserts she made the best!!
Will go to church and hope to get out and do some spraying today. We had a down pour yesterday again so will be out there tomorrow mowing to keep ahead of it. Seems like the weeds grow regardless but get rain and they are getting away from me.
Just put on my capris for first time to wear to church. I have a new top on and it goes with my tan capris really good. I don't look the best in them but I am comfortable!!
Where oh where is Chris?? Does she realize she is missed??? You better let us hear from you soon or the Turnip Truck will be on the way!!

Good morning. 52 and overcast. Suppose to rain this afternoon. That is fine as I have more things to do here in the house than I can possibly do in one day. I have to get the car I was test driving back to the dealer sometime to day but am waiting to here from DS as they may be going that way today and drop it off and I won't have to go with him.
Day have been sort of up and down for me for the past week so haven't gotten a lot done inside or out. Had a good talk with self this morning and it is time to get on with life. I did get the bed along the sidewalk cleaned out, cultivated, weeded and fertilized. I am splitting some of the hosta that are just getting too big. Took me a number of tries to come up with an easy method to do that. (Tuesday's Tip) Yesterday I went and picked up my new car. What a learning curve that thing is going to be. Hope to spend some time in it today with the manual and at least figure out the basic things. So far I can start it, use the signals and cruise. LOL After I got the car Addison and I went onto Walmart in the city so she could get some shorts and capres. When we got home she planted some marigolds along the sidewalk and I split the rest of the hosta. We cleaned off Larry's garden and I see I lost one of the hosta there so need to replace that. Also cleaned out a small area in the fairy garden where I had planted some shrubs a couple of years ago. Transplanting tomatoes into quart pots is still an ongoing thing. The one that are done look great.
We got the bad winds Friday night. Power went out about 9:45 PM and didn't come back on until 7:15 yesterday morning. Needless to say I didn't get any sleep Friday night. The noise of the generator kept me awake all night.
I can't believe how crazy this spring is. The other night I saw lightening bugs. As a kid I remember them being around in July. After the parade and fireworks every 4th of July we would come home a catch them.
Birdy, I tried caramelized onions just once in the slow cooker and wasn't at all happy with them. In my opinion Rachael doesn't even get things right about her own area. I live only about 40 minutes north of Lake George where she grew up. She was a big hero there with doing her cooing school at the High School raise money for their scholarship fund but I not sure but thing is was 2 years ago she stopped doing it and that din't go over very well. I know people that worked with her when she managed one of the restaurants at the Sagamore and those stories aren't very complimentary.
Marlene, nice that you were able to make the funeral and talk with lots of family but I am sure it was tiring.
Eliza, sounds like you got some nice finds while at the festival.
Lori, good luck on choosing your new window treatment. Please stay well and don't left those little ones share with you. Sorry you may have to deal with your MIL.
Waiving to everyone I missed. Have been here way too long.
Have a great day.
Bet

Good to hear from you, Bet. What kind of car did you end up buying?
I forgot that Rachel is from the same neck of the woods as you are. I've never been a big fan of hers since the very beginning but she really killed it for me by not giving credit where credit was due. This was many years before riggies started being picked up by other places around the country so at the time it was pretty much obvious where they originated. Folks around here have long memories--don't mess with our riggies! LOL! Other Food Network people have made their own versions of recipes from this area, specifically Guy Fierie and Ann Burrell, and have always made it clear where they originated. By the way, Ann Burrell is from a small town about 35 miles from me.
I had tried doing onions in the crockpot once and didn't like them. I think that the Sautee function on the instant pot is going to help. I've got a couple methods I've dug up, one that use sautee in conjunction with the slow cooker setting and another that actually uses pressure with sautee to finish the browning. Consider the number of onions that I have, I might try both methods. Cutting the onions in the stem to root direction rather than rings is important, too, to keep them from turning to mush. I learned that from Julia Child!
Birdy
PS I added something to the Riggies recipes I posted in Gardening. I actually found the YouTube video from Teddy's that was posted way back when they won the Riggie Fest. I guess everything is forever on the net! LOL! There's also a link to Recipe Link where someone posted a couple of other recipes--one of which is from an old acquaintance--which has a modification for shrimp.

Good morning.
Beautiful here. Just lovely. We had a really nice day yesterday. Lunch was yummy and we walked around downtown.
Ann, yes gumpy/sleepy snapped out if it. She was fine by the time we were back from our day.
I think we may get some sushi today for our meal. And whatever else they want. The chef needs another day off.
Lori, your hockey team may eliminate mine today.
Waving to all. Betsy

Hey, y'all. It's a nice day here -- warm and sunny. Always nice to have a little bit of spring before the hot weather starts!
DH & I went out for lunch with two other couples from church and had a nice visit with them. The place we went makes wonderful salads, so DH had a grilled chicken salad and I had potato soup and a salad. Then while he napped I carried some books back to the library and got a few groceries. Publix has their lean ground beef on sale so I have 4 lbs. to get browned & into the freezer this evening. Oh, and my first stop was Starbucks for a Java Chip frappuccino, since I had earned a free drink on my Starbucks card. Tastes even better when it's free! :D
Bet and Birdy, I had never heard of "riggies" before so found your discussions on them very interesting. Regional food is always interesting! Our local "thing" is the Bird Dog -- a fried chicken tender with cheese, bacon and honey mustard in a hot dog bun. It is dee-licious.
Lori, your dinner sounds so good! I love BBQ chicken.
Tasty, no wonder you were tired! Good gracious! I hope you got rested up last night.
Marlene, what a great idea to make a book of all the handmade cards from your DSIL. That will be a wonderful keepsake.
Betsy, I'm glad DD is feeling better -- makes everybody else happier, too, I'm sure. Those all-night events for teens can take a while to get over!
Elaine, sounds like a nice quiet day for you.
Ann, hope you're having a good day too.
I need to get busy with some of the chores that didn't get done yesterday. :-/ There's always something ~

Good Afternoon!
It's been good here, probably boring, but I like that. We did church, lunch there, and promptly came home and took a nap. Well, I napped, and DH watched tv. Then I got online. I like to do jigsaw puzzles online but the site has been down for a couple of days. I was right in the middle of a puzzle too! I had put it on pause and was not sure if it was my computer or the site, but then they had a banner saying that some people were having problems with explorer. It was back up and running today so I had to finish my puzzle. It was all multi color paisley and very hard!
We were told by pastor's wife that they were free on Memorial Day weekend so they will be over either Sunday evening or Monday day for dinner. Kind of hoping for Monday. We will heat up a brisket and I have to figure out the rest of the meal. She said their kids eat nearly anything so that's great. I am sort of thinking of simple slaw-a slaw recipe from TOH that has a vinaigrette dressing-no mayo so that would be good for pastor. He is the one with high cholesterol. I might also do Depo's frijoles con queso. They are good and easy. Something different from baked beans. I'd still like to do the rainbow jello salad. I'll have to make room in the fridge for a 9 x 13 dish first!
It sounds like everyone has had a good weekend. Waving to everyone! Sleep well tonight.

Good evening to all. Sorry I have read a few times but no time to respond. I have not had my own computer for several days. DH has hijacked mine. He had to turn his in to the school so he now takes mine. He has had a lot to go over for his new job he starts tomorrow. He will be doing CNC work that his used to do a long time ago. He has been teaching it to some of his clients so he has been up on it some just needed to reteach himself a lot he had forgotten.
So I stole it just now to b able to say Hi. He is already asking for it back!

Nice to see you here Chris!! Glad it wasn't your job keeping you away. Good luck to Dan in his new adventure. Hope your job is o.k. too Chris with your promotion. I was afraid it was keeping you away from here or just too busy. Anyway nice to see you! Now if we could see Sara once in awhile too would make us happy too.
