One of the ladies who used to come to our craft group, used tobuy old wool sweaters, skirts etc, felt them and then make mittens. Were they ever cosy. She sold them at craft fairs.

My niece did a lot of sewing over the years on costumes for the dance group and used a serger for stretch material and knits. She made a quilt out of my grand-nephew's collection of t-shirts from teams, trip souvenirs, etc. It was a major hit as a graduation present to be used in his college dorm room.

I'm a compulsive organizer so I don't have a lot of "stuff". Not even in the attic. When I come across something that I haven't used in a long time it goes into a box for the next community yard sale .
And yes a lot of patchwork quilts are made from old clothes(in good condition ). I've done a few,but none lately.

I stand corrected on reusing old clothes for quilts. The type many of you talk about are called sentimental/memory quilts and not actually used as quilts to keep you warm or for bedspreads. My Grandma used to make quilts from old clothes and within a short time the cotton fabric would fall apart from wear and washing. My Mom always cussed her for doing that since then it was up to my Mom to try to replace the frayed blocks with new blocks which was a terrible job. Our Mom always wore home made dresses and aprons. When she passed away, there was no way we could get rid of them at her garage sale. She was 4' 11" and kind of round, so not an average size. Also...dresses and aprons were not in high demand in 2005. Since many of hers were worn and stained, we decided to have them made into throw rugs and handbags. (we knew she would roll over in her grave if we just threw them). On the handbags we also sewed on some of the old buttons from her button jar. Years ago everyone had a button jar you know. I took a couple pictures to show you.

About “piles of stuff” I am finding moving is the answer! Still one week to go & still time to get rid of more! 😊
How about stuff on the computer/tablet/cell? I like mine with the bare minimum saved. Yes, I sometimes regret the deletions but such is life! My daughter saves so much & I just don’t get it. I guess everyone is different!

Angela...I am sure moving would make me throw lots of unnecessary stuff. I have certainly tossed a lot of stuff in the past 10½ months since Larry passed. I'd hate for our kids to see all of the junk we've saved over the years. Charlene

The kids will surely appreciate that should they have to clean up later!

If any of you have remarried and go to live in your husbands home or him to your home..you will know what I am talking about here....He had some of his furniture ( gave most of it to his kids ) and then I couldn't depart with any of my stuff...ha ha...I should have had a very large yard sale and gotten rid of at least half of my stuff before I moved to Georgia to move into his home...We have way to much stuff and now HE has a rule that if something comes in, something has to go out....which is good of course but if I wanted to keep it I would....I guess I am a hoarder mostly of clothes ( but I basically wear the same things over and over) jeans and t shirts ....also I keep hoarding material in my STASH....of which I have done much of nothing with.....I spent $24 for cloth this week but mostly pick it up at Goodwill at half their prices because it was such a good deal...All of it has a place to go when I die, and that is to my daughter in law beside me...she will never use it either but she has dreams like I do , to someday do something with it...lol....she brought a large container of her Mother's down here to put in our attic 2 years ago and we were going to go through it and see what was there...It was her Mother's...she is 87 years old...so I guess she hoarded it all of her life....so hoarding goes from Generation to Generation I guess.....MY daughter has already told me that there is only one thing in my house that she wants if I die first...that is my collection of Christian figurines ...I think there are about 8 of them and they are about 12" tall....porcelain. and she did want my very old round dinning room table but she finally gave up and bought her one, but hers doesn't have worm holes etc in it like mine does...mine is probably over a hundred years old...solid oak...claw feet...My husband and I found it in an old barn on the property that we farmed several years on...it was given to us by the man that lived in the house on the premises. We had to refinish it but well worth it...But I hope I get to look down on her as she cleans out the messes I leave behind and see just what she will take home with her..MY JUNK WILL BECOME HER JUNK AND SO IT GOES.....
