Good morning friends.
We are in the middle of a deluge right now! Flash flood warning in effect until 11:15. There is some thunder and lightning as well. Huge puddles everywhere as the ground is no longer absorbing the water.
Chris, Congrats to you on your promotion!
Tammy, I'm elated to hear that Helen has found her cat. Did the cat lose a lot of weight?
I am dog sitting for youngest DD friends dog. It's Stella the French Bulldog. I'm not happy has she's already done #'s 1 & 2 on my floor and not on her pads! We have her until Wednesday.
Oldest DD spent the night at a friends house.
I'm about to call unemployment since I was locked out of their system yesterday while trying to file for my 3 days off. This is not going to be pleasant! I can be on hold for hours!.
I made a big pot of meatballs and sausage. It's nice to have the next 3 days off.
Enjoy your day.
Nancy

Good morning.
We are back from our weekend at DD's college. It was so much fun.
Nancy, thank you for starting us. Seems like it's a trying day for you already. Hope you can get through on the phone.
I need to go food shopping this morning. I will see what sounds good for dinner. I enjoyed three days off from cooking but it's back to the Salt Mines.
I need to go back through read the posts.
Hope everyone has a great day.

"But it's back to the salt mines" lol. I hear ya!
Well I actually called U.E. and left my name and number. Someone who knows what they're doing called me back and helped me. What a relief!

Good to hear you got the help you needed Nancy.
Bet it was a fun w/e for you all Betsy. Who had more fun - your daughter or your hubby?
The worst of the storm has been and gone. We got off lightly here with probably no more than 1/2" of freezing rain and it is melting now in the rain and temps heading to the 40s, nor did we lose power!
Tonight I'm going to use some of the fruit from the freezer and make us a big fruit crumble for supper and we'll have some soup beforehand that just needs to thaw. A chicken is now defrosting for later in the week.
Have a marvelous Monday 8-) (dreaming of sunny days)

Morning ! I was so excited to post about the cat yesterday, that I neglected to congratulate Chris on her promotion. I am very happy for you Chris!
I need to make this quick since I baked the chocolate cinnamon bread and need to get it to the coffee shop this morning. Ladies come at 10 to play bridge so I hope to get it there before hand. I also tried a recipe for macaroons but they did not turn out that well. I won't be taking them.
Not sure about supper tonight. I bought an envelope of rub for chicken, beef or pork, but I would have to thaw the chicken. It' still in the freezer. I might have that tomorrow. I planned on DH grilling it outside. I think the weather is going to be nice this week. Last night we did not go out, but DG built a fire and we cooked hot dogs, then made some Smore's.
Nancy, enjoy the time off.
I found out yesterday at church that we won't be the greeters every week, but will probably do it once a month. We will be in charge of making the schedule.
Greetings to everyone. Hope it's a blessed day for you!

Good morning, friends! It's an extremely stormy day with heavy rains, whipping winds, and cold. I feel so bad for the Marathon runners and spectators. I shiver just thinking of them! Nancy - Happy to read of your helpful call back so you can really enjoy your days off. Supper sounds good! Tasty - Glad you didn't lose power. Tammy - Chocolate cinnamon bread sounds great. I assume it's a quick bread? Tonight we are having fried mixed grains in the style of fried rice, a veggie stir-fry along with some Aldi pot stickers and egg rolls. Will mix up some Chinese hot mustard and put out some of Aldi's dipping sauce. Have to take my mom to get her nails trimmed at the podiatrist. Will check in later!

Good morning. Reported in from "Frozen". When I look out the window it looks like scenes from the movie. Our low overnight was 26. Since Thursday night until 7 this morning we have received the equivalent of 1.88" of rain and it is suppose to rain all day today. We are also expecting some pretty good winds. The heat in my greenhouse has been running steady since 8:30 Friday night. I don't want to see my electric bill this month.
I am totally iced in can't get in or out of my driveway. We have a Lions meeting tonight which I don't intend to make. However, the president and I will make a decision at noon whether to cancel the meeting or not. I am surprised that my phone hasn't been ringing off the hook.
Yesterday I did get the 4# of potatoes made into French Fries and in the freezer, planted 5 new trays of seed and did some watering. I am almost out of soil in the house so can't do much more planting unless I decide to skate to the shop.
Betsy, glad you had a great weekend. Was DD please with what she saw?
Tammy, so glad to hear that Helen has her cat back.
Tasty, good that your storm wasn't as bad as expected. It is just above freezing here now and raining. Don't think we will see much melting today however.
Ann, be careful going out today with the wind and rain. I can't imagine running a marathon it that kind of weather. Your dinner sounds good. I need an oriental food fix soon.
Since I won't be going to a meeting tonight, I think I will fix buffalo chicken nuggets, french fries and broccoli with lemon butter.
Have a great day.
Bet

DH called and said they were having roast beef for lunch so we will be eating over there. A light supper is in order, so we may have frito chili pie.
I took the chocolate bread to the coffee shop, and left a sample. It is delicious! They are out of a lot, so I am baking a pan of brownies right now. I might take it in later. I also have a hospitality pie in the freezer that I can take. If I don't make it back today then will go tomorrow morning.
I heard this morning that Barbara Bush is very ill, in failing health. That is sad. I did not know she was that ill. I thought probably her husband would pass away first since he has been in the hospital so often.
Again, have a nice day!

Good afternoon from the other frozen place! Waving at you Bet! We got abut a half inch of ice yesterday and then we got about 2" of snow lat night and we are back to freezing rain and sleet now. I slid off the road after 3 tries to get out of my driveway this morning. Slid right across the road intothe neighbors drive! He had to come help me get the car back on the road! LOL
Hope you all have a great day, Chris

You two are in a deeper freeze than we are. The Mohawk Valley was spared the heavy ice last night--we probably got under 1/4". That's still slippery, though. The winds have been howling--they woke me up about 2:30 so I turned on the police scanner and listened to the trees/wires down calls until I fell asleep again. I didn't wake up until late for me--almost 7. I was relieved to see that my neighbor's tree still hasn't fallen on my garage. Given the winds we have had this winter, it must be more sturdy than it looks.
It's a crazy sky out there right now--the sun is trying to shine, there is a layer of dark, low clouds moving through at high speed going west, which is opposite to our usual direction for storms. Over them, there's another layer of clouds that look like they are going north! Very strange. According to the weather station at the high school near me, we had at least one gust at 56 about 8 this morning. It's still gusting, too. We had some heavy rain but that seems to have died down for the moment.
There were these white slats strewn all over my back lawn when I got up. I didn't realize what they were until I looked out at my front porch. The wind had shredded my roll-up sunshade blinds! I tried to pick up a few this morning but it was too nasty out there. I will have to apologize to the neighbors and take care of it when things ever calm down. My neighbor's porch furniture has been taking a tour around the neighborhood, too!
Just another day in paradise. Remind me of this when I'm complaining about summer being too hot! LOL!
Birdy

Joyce (her owner) has Drs. Appointment this afternoon. I just hope she tells him that her dog pulls her when walking. She had hernia surgery a week ago.
I am sorry everyone is having such nasty weather. Elaine

Afternoon! We are experiencing pounding rain and very gusty winds. Temps have risen about 12 degrees. Those poor marathon runners; I bet many are thinking of not finishing despite all of their hard work. I just heard on TV that almost 30 of the "invited" runners dropped out. Americans have done wonderfully...most of the top runners are American!!! Yea!!! Bet and Chris - Sorry you were on the bad side of the storm. My cousin in North Dakota has been buried in snow! Birdy - Glad that that tree hasn't fallen...yet! Do you think your neighbor will have it removed? The tree in our back yard that was diseased kept losing limbs. One crashed down onto our back patio just after I had finished watering. Owners were told by National Grid that they had to have it removed. I was thinking on how much "suffering" we are in for this summer if these past two seasons are any indication!!! Tammy - Is your chocolate cinnamon bread the one served at Starbucks? Well, time to prep the veggies for the stir-fry. I found some wonderful sliced shiitakes to use. Have a safe and enjoyable evening! Waving!

"I heard this morning that Barbara Bush is very ill, in failing health. That is sad. I did not know she was that ill. I thought probably her husband would pass away first since he has been in the hospital so often." I heard this on the news last night Tammy. Apparently she has been in and out of hospital this year too. She has now refused any more medication.

Good afternoon friends. Today is National Eggs Benedict Day and Day of the Mushroom.
The strong winds have continued all through the night and all day this Monday. This morning before DH and I went to work, we found all kinds of papers, plastic containers, and palm fronds littering the yard. Today was trash and recycle pick-up and rather then waiting until this morning to put it out (or at least to anchor it down good), many homes in the subdivision put it out yesterday afternoon (seems nobody likes to even wait until the suggested time of after 5pm). Anyway, as we carried ours out, we had to pick up everything extra that blew into the yard--filled up a 33-gallon bag.
With the strong winds have come much cooler temperatures (never even made it to 70*), but we have lots of sunshine. I told myself I wasn't allowed to complain mainly because in a few days we'll be back in the upper 80's and then this summer when it's mid-90's to 100*, I'll be praying for a day of this type of weather.
Not much else is happening here. I'm getting ready to do some washing and ironing and DH will be painting when he gets home.
Tammy, very happy to read that your friend Helen found her cat safe at home. Chocolate Cinnamon Bread sounds interesting.
Nancy, enjoy your 3-day break from work.
Chris and Bet, hope you can soon defrost.
Tasty and Birdy, glad the storm wasn't bad your areas.
Ann, dinner tonight will be the Chicken with the Dill Sauce. Instead of the broccoli, I will use carrots. I am following your suggestion to double the sauce.
Need to get some things done so I better get off the computer for now. I'll try to get back here later this evening if time allows.
Lori
Betsy, glad to see that the weekend trip was fun for all.
