Good morning friends.
Tammy, I'm sorry to hear that the Dr.s have been unable to find out what's causing your DGD stomach pains > . You mentioned that your friend works for Dartmouth, one of my friends sons goes there.
Chris, Sorry that your mom is declining due to dementia.
Betsy, Hopefully you'll find the right price and right company to install your new a/c.
Kay, I bet that kid enjoyed your delicious cookies!
Sara, I don't think there's a difference between string beans and green beans. We grew up calling them string beans. I guess it's like stuffing and dressing. We call it stuffing in our area.
Oh Marlene! More stuff for you to clean out! ugh!
Tasty, So far so good at work. I still prep the deli but they have another lady in the kitchen who came over from the middle school. She is making the sandwiches and I am on the register now. She is older and doesn't want to do it. Claims it's her eye site but she's admitted that she doesn't like the register. This is my 2nd day doing the register. I know I've made a couple of mistakes but I pretty much have the hang of it.
Helen, Crab cakes sound good. I never renewed my Costco membership so I haven't bought Phillips crab cakes in a while.
Countrygal, You mentioned getting your flu shots. Now that I'm working at a school I think I will get one this year.
Lori, Hopefully your slept better last night.
Elza, Now you have me wanting burnt hot dogs!
Bet, Did you have a good time on the lake this past weekend?
We are going to have leftover chicken francese and linguine tonight. My family loves it when it has sat for an extra day.
Waving to all.
Enjoy your day.
Nancy

Good Morning everybody.
Nancy, glad you are getting the hang of things at work, and yes, you had better get a flu shot. School is a germy place!
Betsy, I just had my air conditioner replaced. It was pricy and the darn thing doesn't sit exactly level. Drives me crazy when they say it isn't hurting a thing.
I haven't had a hot dog in years. I don't know why, I really like them. And Helen, I have never eaten a crab cake. Seafood out here in the western part of Kansas is NOT good! I liken it to catching a fish and letting it lay on the dock in the sun for a day, and then selling it. I used to live in TX where the seafood was fresh, and I really miss it.
Chris, hugs to you --a tough situation. The cookie eater and I have come to an agreement. I will pay him cash for helping and will only bake him cookies once a week. OK, twice this week if he will install a new video card in my PC. He drives a hard bargain!
Ann your ham sounded delicious!
Lori, hope you can get a goods night sleep. So frustrating when you can't.

Bet, I am having one of your kind of days. Nothing is going according to plan. DH and I had planned on going to one of the many pancake parlors around here for breakfast, then I'd get my nails done somewhere, he'd hopefully get a haircut, and later we would meet our friend for dinner. If we had time we would go over to the Lost Gorge. Well I woke up to hear DH calling places to schedule an oil change. Of course, it HAS to be today! So I rush around getting ready so I can go get breakfast before his 10:30 appt. Come to find out all the pancake places I wanted to try are closed today!! Wednesday? What's with that?
Now it's too late to try and get something before his appointment. Hopefully I can get my nails done sometime today.
Our friend works for Dartmouth I believe she said but she lives south of where we are. She doesn't live in Hanover. I guess it's at a satellite campus.
Nancy, I hope you are liking your new position.
There is a chance for rain today but not sure what time. Right now it is sunny outside.
Yesterday we drove pretty far north. We went to Flume Gorge but it was $16.00 a piece to just enter. then even if you take a bus there were lots of steep stairs and uphill climbs, so we opted out. We drove north to find some covered bridges. We found 9 all together, and 1 waterfall! We drove so far north that we were probably less than 20 miles from Canada. DH said we drove about 250 miles yesterday. Some bridges were heard to find. We don't have exact addresses and gps can't seem to locate a covered bridge. Our map lists the name of a town but sometimes the bridge is 10 miles or so away from that town. At one point we crossed over into Vermont to get to the bridge! The map said to go to the website to get more information, so I did and there is nothing about covered bridges that I could see. DH wants to put together a coffee table book of all the bridges. We usually do create a book when we get back to Houston, containing all the photos he has taken.
Hope everyone has a great day!

Good morning. 59 and overcast but no rain predicted. We sure could use some. Had a great time at the picnic on Sunday but it was a long day. We were 9 hours plus traveling. The friend I rode with is not my type of driver. His speed is up and down even on good highways which we had most of the way. I have driven all but 24 miles of where we were going and I know it doesn't take that long. I was exhausted all day Monday.
Got my act together yesterday however. Spent the morning doing Lion's paper work. Have a meeting tonight and Monday night so needed to get it done. Got the lawn mowed finally. I transplanted a big Boston fern getting it ready to come in for the winter and also a 3' avocado tree which was quite a challenge by my self. Wanted to go to town to do a few errands only to find that my car battery was dead so may be going after a new battery today. Just waiting for a phone call from DS to see if he can get one any cheaper. I did pick and can 4 quarts of tomatoes last night.
Last nights dinner was veal and peppers over egg noodles and hot Italian cabbage. Tonight I have a meeting so will pull a meal of beef stew from the freezer and maybe make some biscuits to go with it.
Being a cool and cloudy day I am not too inspired to do much of anything but really should get to the greenhouse and get some more work done out there. Jack frost will soon be sneaking up on me and then I will be rushing around like crazy.
Have a great day.
Bet

Good morning CC friends. Don't worry I had an HC this morning and am on #2! So good to go. I did not sleep at all last night. Not a wink! So finally gave up around 3:30 am and got up and did some stuff around the house and some quilting.
Thanks for the kind thoughs regarding dealing with my Mom. Sure isn't easy. She has never been a very pleasant person to begin with but sheesh! Dementia makes it worse.
Hope everyone has a great day. I will come back on later after work. Just killing time right now until a client comes in.

Good morning to everyone. I did sleep in this morning as I had not slept the night before, it felt good to finally get some sleep. It is a cool cloudy day so far, I don't know what the rest of the day will be weather wise. Tomorrow and Friday we are suppose to get rain, wish I could send some your way Bet. Nancy thank you for answering my question about green beans. I sure hope you have a good day at work. I remember the days of working in the school kitchen. That was back in the day when we fixed everything from scratch. I was only going to work there until the kids went into high school, ended up working in the school system for 37 years. Chris so sorry about your Mother, sending warm hugs to you and an extra HC, hope that will help you for a minute. I don't understand this no sleeping thing seems like it happens more often than I like. I sure hope you can get a good night sleep tonight. Have a good day and hang in there((())). Have a good day everyone.

I made a small pan of Chili Mac.. not everybody likes this but I get hungry for it once in a while.I just boil some small elbow macaroni and add some Hormel canned chili to it. I have no idea when I started making this or even how I got started making it, but have made it for years. I have an idea that was what I happened to have in the cupboard getting close to payday when I had the family at home and just threw it together. I know it sure smells good in here right now-- smells like chili cooking. For me by myself I keep a small tub of hormel no bean microwave chili on hand and that seems just about right for the amount of macaroni I cook. This is one thing I know how to make without cooking enough for a family--lol.

Chris I am so sorry to hear your Mother is having problems. ((((Hugs)))) to you my friend. I am dealing with it too but not real bad at the moment. MIL has had problems off and on with it. Yesterday she told me she didn't live there when I took her home. We have argued about a portable heater they have had for lots of years and she says it is not there's ! Will see if she uses it this winter. It does get trying and what is best just agree with them? I don't know.
Sara I will try your method someday when I don't know what to make for myself! I do like goulash and make some for containers for freezer too. Today I had tomato soup and little Velvetta cup of shells and cheese so put the tomato soup with it and it was good too. Course Macaroni and cheese is one of my favorites.
I paid bills and sent two b-day cards today, did washing and cleaned my kitchen, bath and utility room also. Will do the rest of the house tomorrow. Better stay off the foot for awhile. I needed to scrub the floors so glad that is done.
Will go to town tomorrow or Friday and get a few things. Just nice to stay home for a change. Red has been my baby all day. I sit to rest once in while up he comes for his pets.
Nancy glad you are liking your job. Do you work every day? Will take awhile to get used to working and taking care of family too. You are so organized it won't take you long. It seems when week-ends come then you are busy with cleaning and catching up too. At least I was.
Have a good night everyone. Marlene

We had corned beef hash and marinated beets for supper. One of Hubby's favorites. I have been very busy again today shopping and on the phone. I will let you all know what's happening next week. I just can't talk about it right now. Big Hugs all around, and I'll take one too.

Got a last minute call to sub in Kindergarten today. It's a new unit and the girl that will start officially tomorrow would be actually teaching today--I just had to be in the room for legal reasons. It wasn't a hard day per say, but the teacher and I left drained! She has only 14 students but the others cleaned out all the trouble makers--11 boys and 3 girls. This other teacher is fresh out of college, first job, and I thought she was going to quit today. The kids slap, kick, push, bite, yell, run out the doors, and just explode when things don't go as they want---OMG, it was like walking into a zoo!! It just so happens I know one of the behavior specialist at the school, so I asked her to stop in. Even she was shocked to see how these children were acting. We talked after school and she agreed with me that 12 of the 14 have MAJOR problems. Kind of glad I'll be taking the day off tomorrow for the dentist!
Chris, my DF suffer with dementia for 10-12 years, so I know just what you and others are going through. I walked those shoes daily for many years so I send to you ((BIG HUGS)).
((Helen)) I'm thinking of you too and sending warm hugs your way as well. Also hugs to your sweet hubby!
Leftover rice chicken tonight.
Slept well last night and hoping I can do it again tonight!! Can't talk, hopefully more time tomorrow! Waving to all!

Sending a big ((hug)) to all those dealing with parents or any family members with dementia. My dad had Alzheimer's so I know how hard it can be. A couple of things that really helped us were the local Alzheimer's Association and the book The Thirty-Six Hour Day. Your local Council on Aging can also be a great resource.
And my personal tip -- since my dad and I used to watch TV and have ice cream or hot chocolate in the evenings. "Antiques Roadshow" is the perfect show for folks with dementia. Short segments, usually featuring something old, no storyline to follow, no characters to remember. Nothing stressful or scary. He always enjoyed it.
Got the grocery shopping done in two shifts today -- nonperishable things on my lunch break, and the rest after work. That's something that I just got off track with this summer while Mama was sick, and we were on the road so many evenings. Anyway, I got ground beef to brown for the freezer -- will do that tomorrow night -- and makings for a double batch of chicken pot pies. Since I was going to Publix after work, I went online and ordered a couple of chicken tender subs (on sale this week!) to pick up after my shopping was done. That was nice!
