It would make the transfer to the recipe board if you could tighten up the spacing on the recipes when you post them.
Thanks

I don't know what it means either. I won't add any recipes or links to recipes from now on

Rosie and ezdoesit, I want to keep posting. Just if possible when you post a recipe if once you have copy and pasted it if before you create the post if you can go back through it and backspace between the lines if possible where there are large gaps between the ingredients or the paragraphs for instructions. It would just save me a little time when posting them in the recipe thread. If you can't do it don't worry about it.

Hello All, Bet is talking about the vertical spacing.....On the first recipe I posted, I copied and pasted it from a personal file that I keep on line. When I pasted it to this site it was strung out with big spaces vertically. I went back in and deleted them (the big spaces) back to normal spacing. I am not a teckie and I don't know why it happened but it is easy to fix. On this site things are easy to fix.....Please don't let that keep you from posting your wonderful recipes and ideas. Cheers, Doris

Thanks Doris. I appreciate your comment. I wasn't trying to discourage folks from posting recipes only to make it a little quicker for me to transfer they to the Recipe thread.

Bet, those pesky spaces can be controlled, I think. I discovered this with a little experimenting. When you are copying and pasting from a source like a Word file, you have some options on how you paste into a post. Just a straight paste "Ctrl+V" ends up with extra spaces between lines because I think there is some hidden code in there coming from Word.
Instead, when it is time to paste, click with your right mouse button. A menu will pop up with some options, one of which is "Paste as plain text" which also has a shortcut of "Ctrl+Shift+V" in order and held down together.
When I do this, the text pastes into the window in a small font. If you go down to the bottom of the window where you are pasting, there are two tabs. You didn't know it, but you just pasted in BBCode, so click on the tab for Preview. If all is right with the world, the line spacing should be OK.
I've been doing this quite a bit while transferring some text from Word files for another forum and it has worked for me!
PS--Guess what! I spoke too soon. I just pasted a recipe on another thread and it didn't work! I've got to figure out what was different this time. Phooey. I'll get back to you if I can find a solution. It shouldn't be this complicated.

OK--I think I figured it out! I just posted a recipe on the Italian Wedding Soup thread and it worked following the steps below:
Apparently, it's important to paste into the window marked "BBCode" first. This is not the default so you have to turn it on first. Before you paste into the window, go down to the bottom and click on the tab marked "BBCode". The tab should turn white from blue and "Preview" next to it should then turn blue from white.
Now--right-click with your mouse in the window and choose "Paste as plain text". The font should look pretty small. At this point, if you then click back on Preview again, the spacing will be OK--I hope. Fingers crossed! :) It's a lot less fuss than backspacing out the extra lines so I hope it works.

I use a large font and the recipe I posted on my computer did not overlap. I know how to backspace to tighten sentences.
When I posted there wasn't a thread on how recipes should be posted.
Every site has their own rules.

Ezdoesit, it is not a rule but does save me a lot of time when there are a lot of recipes to get done.
Thanks for understanding and I will try what birdy has posted.

Testing! Birdy - I didn't get plain text thing when I right clicked, but just regular paste seemed to work. It did, didn't it? Tuscan One Pot (From Salem, NH. Senior Center Cookbook) 1 T olive oil 1 lb. Turkey sausage, casing removed 1 small onion, chopped 2 cloves garlic, minced 2 (15 ½ oz.)can Great Northern beans, undrained[3 cans if you want a thicker soup] 2 c. chicken broth (add water to make 2 cups from standard can) 1 tsp. Italian sesoning pepper to taste 2 cups spinach or kale, washed, patted dry and chopped (use 1 bag frozen, chopped) In a large pot, heat oil over high heat. Add sausage, onion and garlic and cook 6-8 minutes or until no longer pink, stirring frequently to break up the meat. Add remaining ingredients except spinach or kale; bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer, uncovered for 30 minutes, or until thickened. Stir in spinach or kale, simmer a few more minutes until wilted. Serve.

Yes, it did. It could be that we are using different browsers. Mine is Chrome which sometimes gives me more options. But if an ordinary Paste works, all the better! Less to worry about. Did you click on the BBCode tab at the bottom before pasting? I'm convinced that there is hidden code in the pasted content that the regular screen can't handle.
I also noticed that if you paste directly into the Preview window, the extra line spaces don't necessarily show up until you post it. If you paste in the BBCode window first, then click on Preview, I think what shows up is what will be posted.
I understand what Bet is saying, folks. We could save her a lot of work by getting rid of those extra blank lines ourselves. The Paste suggestion would save those of us posting recipes a lot of time. But if this discussion is confusing, please don't stop posting. Your recipes are very welcome and can definitely be used.
There is definitely a learning curve for some of the features on this site but I think we may be making some progress. Anyone else want to experiment?
