I don't pour anything through mine but I know it's been discussed here before. I'm sure somebody will be along with an answer soon

I have also never poured anything through mine. I have sprayed some that I feared were blessed with white flies or spider mites, but the rest of them usually come in while I am in a frenzy getting plants safe from our 1st frost....bugs and all! Charlene

I always give them a soapy water bath OR put them in a plastic bag for a few days to smother any creepy crawlers. You never know what's lurking in those pots and I don't care to find out either. :)

I spray mine but can't remember what I use. I had a tree frog come in with one once. Got it out quick!

I never take mine outside. Had a orange tree once that was over 3ft and baby sis talked me into taking it outside in the summer. I killed it. That was the last time inside plants didn't go out. LOL

I only take a few plants outside, and when I do bring them in, I first let them sit in the back room for a week and see if I have any bugs in the room, it has a door so can't get inside. Works best for me.

I've cut way back on houseplants, only have a few cacti now.
But when I was bringing them in & out I almost always transplanted before bringing them in. The only thing I ever found was ants.

I am going to be so leary about bringing in plants from outside after last year's fiasco. It was going to freeze and so I brought all the pots in from outside. I brought in FLEAS!!!
We had to put our 19 yr. old cat to sleep due to seizures from kidney failure, and that was when I discovered she had fleas. She never ever went outside. I think the plants got the fleas from the squirrels crawling through them. I had also put plants down in the basement so I had fleas down there also. She was blind and never went down to the basement, so that's how I figured out that they came in on the flowers. Every single pot went back outside and froze. It took me 2 months to get rid of the fleas in the house.
I don't know what my plan of attack will be this fall.
