What a great story. I see those palm nuts on the ground every year, and never thought that I might be able to grow a tree from one. The palm blooms are pretty, but I have wondered what people who own them think about the mess with the nuts.
Glad that it has survived for you and was sure way cheaper than what people around here pay for full grown trees. It seems to be a big business bringing them up from Florida to SC to sell, mostly for business and road landscaping. Way out of my budget, though.

I used to buy the ones in Myrtle Beach all the time. They would do well for a few yrs, then up & die. I finally gave up. Now I have one that I broke down & bought at Lowe's & I put it in the GH in the Winter. So far, so good.
I've never seen blooms or Palm Nuts on any trees, not even the big ones in Fla. or SC

,Love the tree story. I brought back a seed pod from Sis' home in Az. Later I heard it rattle when I shook it. OF COURSE I PLANTED IT! It grew and I have an aguave. I would give my sis e-mails: the agauve report and every time a new blade came up and how high it was. It needs anew home.
DS planted a grapefruit seed when he was 4. Now he is 50 and decided he needed to take it home. Not sure DIL approved - but it has had interesting life. Decorated for Christmas that last22 years and it grew in front porch/greenhouse. I pruned it and it would shed leaves as I took it out and brought it in. When he was in college I thought it had died. He said, Mom, just water it - you can make anything grow - and it lived. about 2 ears ago I was hanging a planter and didn't know about vertigo. I want over backwards. I grabbed the trunk and it eased me down gently. I landed on a bunch of plastic pots and PTL not injured. So we have many stories and it has a new forever home.
And I'm still learning to standstill till head stops spinning. Have only fallen 1 time since moving to AL. Glad to not have steps!!!
