Melissa, we have all been there. Mine joined the Army at 18, right out of school. I handled that OK. Then after Boot camp etc; he went to live in Md., where he grew up. (his Dad & I had moved to Tn.) Not happy, but I handled it. About a yr after that he came home (to Tn.) & emptied out his room there, taking everything back to his apt. in Md. I went into the (empty) room after he left, sat in the floor & just sobbed. And I can't believe I'm crying as I type this 26 yr. later. OMG
A very handsome young man & HS/College together is quite an accomplishment.

Gayle-Ahhh, that is making me cry for you! You should call your son just to say hi, see how Max did in middle school.
I am lucky I will have him at home next year as well. I am nervous about his career choices but also proud he wants to help people (wants to be a state trooper). Just makes me sad they are growing up!

You're so lucky to have a good looking and intelligent son! Yes, the years go too fast and after reading all the nice posts here I'm also getting weepy eyed. When our oldest daughter started kindergarten, she was so happy. I cried. When she started high school she couldn't wait for a new and different learning experience. I cried. When she started college she was so excited about being out on her own among new people in a different environment. I took one look at her dorm and thought it was a fire hazard...then I really cried.
