We went home late this morning and cleared out the fridges and freezers and left them open to air out. We are at the apartment now and have laundry going -- pretty happy about that.
Had a big salad topped with fried chicken strips for a late lunch and that hit the spot.
We talked to another nephew in NC who went through this same situation last year and he had a lot of good advice about dealing with adjusters, contractors, etc. That was really helpful.
I'll go back to work tomorrow and will be there at 8 to work on night drop bags after being closed on Friday.
I am ready to have a quiet evening with a good book before a busy day tomorrow.

Elza, did your DB suggest that you get an estimate from a contractor you know and trust or that come recommended by someone other than the insurance company. The the adjuster can deal with them and know a lot more that the homeowner knows about what is needed and the contractor will be on your side when the company wants to take short cuts or just don't see all of the problems. As an agent I handled claims for close to 30 years. Sorry but the adjusters are not trying to cheat you but they do work for the company and the contractor is working for you.

No, we haven't talked to anyone yet. Hoping to get an adjuster here to do an inspection this week.

I made a new to us recipe tonight. I peeled and cut up potatoes and put in slow cooker. Then browned some pork steaks with seasonings. I put on the potatoes. Then dumped sourkraut over all and cooked 4 hours on low. It was yummy. I can't believe we've never tried it this way before.
Bet- take time for yourself this week.
Elza- I agree with Bet get another opinion.

Elza, Great advice from Bett....always good to know who is in your corner. May I add....keep a "paper trail" with pictures and document everything...Who and when and what was said, keep all communications, it will come in handy if there is a dispute. Much has happened since your life turned upside a few days ago. Good to read that Dh and DBIL were able to retrieve the important things from your bedroom....Hopefully when the arborist gets the tree out and some of the debris you will be able to salvage some other items. Don't forget to document your food loss.
Take a deep breath and get some rest. Doris
