Morning! It's partly cloudy and warm this morning. Yesterday was a warm one. The temps got close to 80°! We sampled the crab cakes for dinner last night. I have one leftover, and I'm thinking I will use it as a stuffing on top of some salmon sometime this week. I'm meeting my former neighbor for a bit of retail therapy at Home Goods. We will then go to lunch here. I'm planning on making a Cobb salad for dinner tonight. Will hard steam some eggs, and order shrimp cocktail and salads from the restaurant to use in the salad. Enjoy your day! Waving! PS Elza thoughts and prayers for you and DH. I'm sure you will not enjoy all the work you have to do today. Hugs.

I had my eye appointment yesterday over in Concord NH. They will do the left eye only as the right eye is not impaired. Will have it done sometime in November by the sounds.
Hope everyone has a great day!

Glad I checked to see if anyone else had posted before I posted on Chris's original post so will put it here and not save in there.
Sunset 9/24/24. Good morning just one of the many beautiful scenes everyday somewhere around the lake.
It is somewhere between 49° and 51° here this morning depending on which thermometer you check. We are to be cloudy this morning and partial clearing this afternoon with a high of 71°. Yesterday didn't go exactly as planned. The morning wasn't very productive as I spent way too much time on the computer playing about with some pictures while I waited for it to dry up outside which it never did. It was sunny and in the low 70's but it is still wet out there is morning. I did got to the garage to get the heat on in the shop to at least pilot so it is ready when I move plants in and need it. That didn't go well at all. The lighter I was using ran out of fluid before it lit. Came in to get another one and when I got back out to the heater. The glass in front had shattered. No reason why. It wasn't hot and the air certainly wasn't cold enough to cause glass to shatter. I spent I don't know how many hours searching the internet and making phone calls to find where I could purchase a new glass but no luck and I can't run the heater without it. So now I am searching to buy a new heater and get it installed asap.
I did get the 40# BOSS out of my trunk and into containers and some of the garage picked up. Had a trunk load of garbage that I took to the transfer station which cost me $10. Before I left for town I finally got the house plants watered and put Alice to work cleaning the living room while I was gone. Picked up the mail while in town and stopped at the restaurant to see everyone since I hadn't been there in several weeks and got a chance to talk with DD when she came on to work. When I got home while I started dinner Alice cleaned the kitchen and computer area while I started dinner. I got the kitchen floor mopped when she finished. By then it was 7 PM and the end of my day.
I just sat here and watched a beautiful sun rise. I got some pictures and will post them in a separate thread later.
Elza, so sorry to hear of your loss. Hopefully you can get someone in to remove the tree and get the house sealed up to protect it from any further damage for the weather. You are right it is going to be a long repair process. If your homeowners is anything like ours in NYS there should be an additional living expense that will pay rent for living quarters while the repairs are being done.
Chris, glad you will be getting the procedure on your eye quickly.
Ann, shopping therapy is always good. I think I have either salmon or crab cakes in the freezer. They sound good for dinner one of these nights. I keep forgetting to tell you I ordered those rug grippers that you suggested and they are great. The box of a dozen were on sale so got those.
Have a great day.

Thank you everyone for the prayers and please keep on praying!
I didn't get coffee yesterday so that was very welcome this morning. I think we are both realizing that we don't even know what all the questions are that lie ahead. Hopeful that we can get some answers today but some things will have to wait till Monday.
When we talked to the insurance company yesterday, the rep said, "get what you need and save all the receipts." So that is what we're doing.

Oh, Elza. I am so sorry to hear about your news. It certainly going to be a journey getting back to normal but God was good to you in that you weren't in that part of the house. I had been thinking about you as I was watching the weather maps yesterday but it still came as a shock to read your post. Hugs to both of you.
Not much to report here except that we did go out for a picnic at a lake the facility owns about 2 miles from here. It was good to get some fresh air. We even heard and saw a pair of ravens which are coming back in population. For a time they were very rare around here. Have a good Saturday, everyone.

Good morning. OMG, Elza, you and your DH are so lucky you were not in the bedroom. I feel so badly for y'all. Prayers in abundance to see you through this mess.
Out and back later than normal. I slept in this morning until 6:30 and had some coffee before getting dressed to go out.
Now I'll finish my coffee and think about what I should, could, or will do today. Too hot to go anywhere so I will be home again today. I do a lot of that. Unless of course I have to go to the dentist. That pretty much shoots the whole day.
Thursday when I got home from Mexico, I needed more ice in my water bottle. OMG, everything in the fridge freezer was thawed!!! This is the second time this has happened but I know it wasn't me leaving the door ajar. Yeserday I called all the repair people in Yuma and only one called me back. And there is only one that will/can work on Samsung refridgerators. The dumb freezer will go into a thaw mode and not come back on for hours. Sometimes it works fine and some times not. When it's 111º I need cold water to drink. Anyway a repairman will try and get here Monday if not he will come on Wednesday. I have to be at the dentist again on Tuesday. Why did I let my husband have his way and get a Samsung. Dumbest move ever. I know that brand is bad news in everything. As soon as I can I will replace it with a known good brand. But I'm stuck with it for a couple more years.
Bet what beautiful pictures.
Ann, 80º is cool for me. I'll trade my 114 for your 80º. We won't see 80's until the end of October. Bad bad summer down here this year.

Good morning. I walked Blue again as her leg isn't getting much better. I didn't go to UNO yesterday, I decided to watch a movie instead. We ended up not having pinochle either as the one couples air conditioner went out.
Elza - God was sure looking out for you guys. I am so sorry. You are right it will be a long haul.hugs and prayers.
Chris-I must of missed something about your eye.
Bet- beautiful sunrise.
Birdy- its good hearing that they took you on a picnic. Fresh air and lake scenery is the best.
I have no plans for today. So I will read my bookclub book and watch a movie.

Mamma- we were typing at the same time. That has to be a hassle now going to Mexico with how the new entry is into there. I posted on my Facebook page and ick.
I have a Samsung phone and a Samsung tablet. I hope they last.
It is hot during the day but I have sure been enjoying these morning temps.

Elaine, you are so right. The new entry takes you way around and end up away from the most popular businesses. We got a tad confused as to where we were. I would never find my way to my dentist now. It is terrible and Karen drives in, I walk and it is A LOT of walking now. I am not comfortable where the entrance ends either. So glad I don't have to do alone on Tuesday. I'll never go alone again.

Mamma, unplug your refrigerator for about 5 minutes and plug it back in. Automatic defrost on any refrigerator or freezer can malfunction and not come back on after the defrost cycle. I have had it happen on both my freezer and my refrigerator.
Elaine, I love my Samsung phone and 4 tablets. Two of the tablets Birdy sent to me for my grant grandkids to use here and they are probably 10 years old or older and still work fine just can't be updated any further. The other 2 that I use or at least 5 years old and the current phone I am using is also. The other SAmsung phone that Annabelle uses for games is a lot older than that.
Birdy, it must have been great to get out for the picnic. If you want some Ravens I can sent you some. I have then here all of the time.
I am on a roll this morning. I have made a batch of ice cream and a dozen sesame seed hamburger buns. The kitchen is cleaned up and the first load of dishes are ready to be put away and put the rest into the dishwasher. Have spent some time on recipes. Have some new ones to look at to possibly make for the Lions Dinners. I will have to try them first. It won't be until January. (now that's an awful thought)
The sun has finally come out so hopefully I will at least get out to the garage and shop to work on them today.

Elza- I am so sorry about your home. We went through this with our fire a few years ago. We were out for 3 months. The Insurance guy told us to get an Air B&B not a hotel. Was sure glad we did. Made it much easier. Well as easy as not being in your as it can be. Hugs to you and your DH!
Birdy- How nice to have had a picnic out! I have several Ravens here too. The crows fight with them all the time!
Mamma- I think it you do a reset on your fridge like Bet suggests it will help. Mine did!
Bet- I just made some No-knead rosemary bread. It is rising now and will bake it in the dutch oven when it is finished rising.
Elaine- I will take your heat any day! I like the colors of fall but not the loss of heat! LOL I should live in the desert! I love heat and humidity!

Chris, I love rosemary. Does the bread use fresh or dried rosemary? I make and use rosemary oil a lot. When I would have a major loss I always tried to get the displaced homeowners set up in a housekeeping unit of some sort. Back there Air BNB's weren't heard of.

When we had the flood in 1997 we were out of our house from April 17th until October 21st. 6 months. The 1st month we lived in a hotel room but so hard with 2 cats. Then we found a 3 room apartment for the other 5 months. It was hard, but we managed. I just feel so bad for Elza.

I tried resetting the fridge. It's a Samsung so it is a piece of junk. It works when it wants to.

Hi from lovely Texas. Another warm, slightly breezy and low humidity day.
I intended to put a turkey breast in the crock pot but it did not happen. Just as well since our neighbors called a few minutes ago-they live in Houston and only come to their weekend home every so often. They are in town and want to go out to eat tonight.
Work went well but I am tired. I needed to tote several full plastic bins of summer clothing to the storage container and bring back winter things. I did lay down for about an hour when I got home.
We had 17 here last night. Everyone enjoyed the brisket and all the brought in was very good. Gay even left a few pieces of her chocolate sheet cake with us to snack on! We visited and played a music trivia game that I made up. Gay's husband Larry loves music and so do I. We try to stump each other with songs, so I wrote a list of trivia questions for him. He enjoyed it, so we started with a new list last night and everyone played. 3 of the men have been on the worship team in the past so they are quite good with music over the years. Most questions I made multiple choice so it's easier. We are getting a new worship leader at church. The young newlywed couple has been here for a year. We are a fairly new church so a sister church they came from has continued to pay their salary. Their year is up so they are going back to Phoenix.
Have a nice weekend, and Elza, you are in my prayers.
