Good early dark, friends.
Yesterday got away from me so was not on. I did read through. I have been up since 2:30am. Eyes popped open and that is all she wrote!
Hope everyone has a great day. I have nothing planned but we will see if the day gets away from me again.

Good morning! Yep, it's early dark with humidity still out there. The wind has picked up so it will become betterer and betterer this morning. There is an exercise class around 10am that I signed up for. At 11am there will be a flag ceremony...the new flagpole overlooking the reflecting pool/fountain will have the 'raising of the colors'. After that there will be a Labor Day cookout. Last night's salmon with mixed veggies was really good! Would make it again! Hope everyone has a relaxing Labor Day. Waving!

Good morning. What a pretty morning, pale blue sky with sun peeking thru the trees. When I sat down by the open patio door it was only 54F. Maybe, jusy maybe, the condo will cool down somewhat. It may be Labour Day, but round here it will be pretty much a normal Monday, altho banks and the LCBO/Beer stores and offices will be closed. Being a tourist area grocery stores and most other stores in town will be open. And for us personally, being long retired, public holidays come and go. Hubby will be golfing this morning but I 'plan' on taking the day as it comes! May make some muffins. Hope you enjoy your day!

Good morning. It was 52°here this morning and to get in the low 70's and sunny. We have a frost advisory for tonight. I am showing a low of 43°. It is just a bit early for a frost advisory. I am going to start cleaning out the greenhouse today and getting ready to take it down. Have some things to pot up, some to dump and have quite a few cutting I hope to take. I do have watering to do. Can't believe how dry some of the baskets and planters are considering the amount of rain we have had. It has been since a bad year for my plants this morning I am about ready to let them just go.
I have wasted the morning setting up work for the week. I am working on setting things up a little differently. I have been doing it every morning before I leave and have forgotten some things that I needed. I also readjusted my schedule a bit.
Chris, sorry you didn't sleep well. I was lucky I don't remember waking up until 6 this morning.
Ann, glad you enjoyed your salmon. Only had it once and wasn't fond of it but then it could have been the preparation. I make salmon cakes from canned salmon and like them and as a kid we had salmon from the can and we just ate it cold.
Tasty, even with still working holidays are just another day except maybe Thanksgiving and Christmas. How great you had such a wonderful market yesterday. You gals will be busy again tomorrow restocking. Hope the condo cools down.
Have a great day.

Good morning. It's already 90º but at least it's not humid. No plans for today just sit and do nothing. Not sure if I'll make any cards today or not. I do know I will only go outside when Mandy needs to go.
Yesterday Lynda and I went to Fry's (Krogers) and picked up the Folgers (half caff) that is on sale and a couple other sale items. I checked their price on eggs and it was well over $5 a dozen and their milk was way over $2 for a half gallon as well. That place is true example of price gouging on everything. Lynda and I only buy what is a good sale there, too expensive for anything else.
Lynda brought over a little fireplace for me yesterday. She has one and had another one in her shed. I cleaned it up and it is now sitting in the living room in a temporary spot. We used to have one. I love the ambience at night and it will be nice in the winter too. I then decided to put the cabinet doors back on under the tv. Big mistake. I had to get on the floor and back up, both of which are extremely hard for me to do. My arms were put to the test trying to get this fat old lady down and up. I had to take a pain pill, my shoulders were really hurting. They are okay this morning so I didn't do any damage. I did nothing else the rest of the day.
Happy Labor day!

Mamma. that is too hot for that time of day. Don't blame you for not going out. I have 2 gas fireplaces in this house and in 20 years have only used the one in the living room a few times. It messed up the central heating system. The other is in the bar family room in the basement. That use to get used a lot. Now once in a while during the real cold part of the winter I will turn it on to warm up the basement a little. Don't use that room any more since DH passed. No one to play pool with and don't entertain anymore.

Good morning. I came home from cards sick last night, but Dori still wanted her walk. I didn't think I would make it home . Feel good today. Got up and we walked around the park with a breeze blowing. I have swim class in a half hour. This afternoon is cards and then we have the Labor Day potluck at 5. So a busy day.

Good morning! We had a good visit with DMIL -- once we finally got there. 😕 A drive that usually takes between 3.5 and 4 hours, took over 5 hours. A combination of wrecks, heavy traffic, and road work. Oh well, at least we were able to leave here earlier than usual so it wasn't late at night when we arrived. DH trimmed up the trees and shrubbery in her yard while DMIL & I had a good time, going out shopping and then watching college football games on Saturday. We also got together with DH's siblings at a birthday celebration for his younger brother. We drove back on Sunday and that went much more smoothly, with very little traffic. That was a relief!
Today we are just hanging out at home -- after I got back from a trip to Urgent Care. The wound on my right knee where I fell 3 weeks ago was getting infected. Fortunately I was able to make an appointment online last night, so I was in & out quickly and picked up meds at the pharmacy. I stopped at the produce market that is just down the street from the drugstore for mountain apples and blueberries, and then since I was going past Publix on my way home, I picked up fried chicken and some salad fixings. So we should be set for the day.

Hi and Happy Labor Day!
Elaine, glad you woke up feeling well. It's 84 here, so just a tad bit cooler than you all.
Tasty, how nice that you had a very successful market. Now, to restock, right?
Ann, enjoy your day.
Bet, hope your new schedule works well for you.
Chris, here's hoping you can maybe get a short nap today.
Mamma, we used to live about 2 blocks from a Kroger and I liked that store. In this town we do not have one and the closest is about 45 minutes away. Good plan to only buy what is on sale there.
I got to sleep in a little. DH smoked 3 pork butts for me, so we pulled those apart, loaded them down with bbq sauce, and they are chilling until tomorrow. I decided to wait and bake the dump cakes early tomorrow morning. If I baked them tonight I am afraid the topping would get all soggy. After they are finished I'll pop the pork into the oven.
We are going to a potluck later today at our minister's house. I made the pasta salad yesterday afternoon. It is from 2 until 6 but I now we won't stay the entire time.
The lunch at church yesterday went very well. We had 170 attend church and we had 160 burgers, so we were a little worried about running out. We knew not all would be staying to eat. All of the host committee decided to wait and see if there was enough for us. If not we would skip the meal. Turns out we had plenty, in fact had leftover burgers which the minister took home and he is serving them today! DH took the preformed burger patties and put them on the smoker for just a little while. Then Sunday morning he grilled them on the bbq grill. Everyone loved them, even me. Sometimes I am not fond of heavy smoke flavor, but these were very good. The guy who purchased the burgers went to Sam's and got 85-15 sirloin burgers.
Wishing everyone a lovely day!

It's cloudy weather today. Not as sunny as people like for cook outs but not too bad. Since I've retired, holidays often come and go with little notice from me, too. Still have good food, though! Birdy, Lorna Doone's have been my favorite since childhood. Grandma made "Petticoat Tails" for Christmas that are basically a thin shortbread cookie that melts in your mouth. Glad you can enjoy the Lorna Doone's. Tasty, congratulations on your best market day ever. Glad you feel better today, Elaine. Elza, hopefully some new medication will knock out the knee infection that is hanging on. Bet, hugs. Tammy, the BBQ pork sounds absolutely wonderful. My sister in law makes her mom's Puerto Rican Pork that is to die for. I've tried making it a couple times but, of course, it doesn't taste as good. Leftovers for supper tonite. Sweet dreams

Good morning everyone. Chris, that’s not good, lack of sleep. Take it easy today, if you can, maybe sleep better tonight. Ann, sounds like you’ve got a busy day planned. Tasty, how nice to hear you had your best day ever yesterday. Now you girls will be busy stocking up for the next sales. You all work so hard it must be very gratifying to have folks come back every year. Bet, if you’re not working on the road, you’re working at home. You wear me out, just reading about all you do. Took me years to realize a 10-15 minute break was all I needed to recharge my batteries. Now I take more breaks than doing any work. lol. Mamma, much too hot for me, I’ll be staying in today too. Elaine a very full day for you today too. Glad you got over feeling sick yesterday so you can enjoy today’s activities. Emr, sorry to hear about the traffic going to MIL’s (typical around here on long weekends), but glad you had an enjoyable time visiting while there. Can you just imagine the traffic if you came home today? Tammy, another one going to a potluck. How I used to love going to those. Always good food and company. Usually came home with a new to me recipe or two to make. Where is Lori? Hope she’s visiting her DD. I must have missed it if she is. Yesterday morning, got the second batch of bread made. DD2 came in the afternoon for a visit. Took both loaves! Yes! She will share with her girls. Still have 2 loaves made the day before. I half them and then freeze. DD1 will take at least one half, or maybe two. Last evening I cooked macaroni for salad. Just putting the salad together this morning did me in. Standing in one place too long. So now I’m taking it easy the rest of the day. We’ll have the Mac salad, ham and beets for supper. DH will take care of that. Hi to all, especially those I’ve missed. Jan Hi Helen.

I'm concerned about Lori, Jan. It's not like her to disappear - it's been almost a week since we heard anything from her. I don't remember her saying anything about visiting her daughter and her hubby had just gone back to work after his summer break. Hope she's OK. She did say the arthritis in her hands has been playing up.

Elza, sorry the trip took so long getting to DMIL's. When I worked Friday it was bad and I don't travel the interstate so I can't imagine what that was like. Sounds like everyone had a good time and DH was able to get things done for his Mom. You must have done a good job on that knee to have and infection 3 weeks later. Good you were able to get into urgent care and get meds.
Tammy, I get Black Angus burgers for the Lions food tent. I think they are 85/15. I know the folks on the grill love cooking them just enough grease to make them good. Myself I don't grill on gas. I use Charcoal so probably get the same affect as the bit of smoking DH did. Your pulled pork sounds good. The butts are on sale here this week. I should check and make sure I have one in the freezer.
Helen, thanks for the hugs. Learned many years ago to roll with the punches. Makes live much more enjoyable.
Jan, busy people find a way, while others find an excuse. Believe me when I am busy at home I take my share of breaks. You always feel better after getting a good haircut.
Lori was having some blood work done the last she posted. Also she is on prednisone which isn't always very pleasant for some people. She mentioned a week or so ago she might be missing once in a while. This week I think she starts her new treatment and OT which is wasn't really looking forward to. I sure hope that she is alright and will at least be reading so we know at least that she is doing that.
