Friday, August 16th "What's Cookin'?"

Good morning! It's smoke hazy out there, but the day is supposed to be sunny. Oh, what a night! Fierce thunderstorms hit late afternoon. It was wild with thunder, lightening, and hail. Lights flickered several times. Elevators lost power in the D & E buildings. As a result, folks couldn't get down to the restaurant unless they used the stairs. Texts were sent out telling us to use the reservation email address and order from the menu for free. Staff delivered all...at dinner time, fresh and hot!! Impressive!
I'm assuming that the elevators are fixed because I had an Amazon package outside our door. If it is, we'll do an early grocery shop. After that, I have a class to learn how to use the exercise machines (like Curves machines without the "Change stations now." tape!
Duchess' new mom and dad will join us for lunch. Housekeeping will do their thing early this afternoon. And there is a pop-up seafood buffet at dinner. Busy day!!

Good morning all.  Looks like our last nice weather day for a few datys - a rainy weekend coming!  A coolish start to the day at about 60F but we'll get up to the low 80s.
Yesterday, I managed to get both freezers defrosted.  It was the first time I had unplugged the upright one and was amazed just how quickly it was ice free!  Of course, I really don't know what's where so today I will try and get them organised.

Good morning my friends.

The heat and dew point are on the rise once again. We went out a bit later this morning and there was no breeze for a relief, but it will be a windy day later. I slept in a bit this morning so Mandy was quick making me quite happy. There were a couple friends in the big pet area, but too hot for me to sit in the sun. No thank you, I like the little one that is in the shade.

Sheets changed yesterday and in the washer now, towels are next and then I better go and check to see how much salt is in the softener. With this hot sweaty weather I've had a bit more laundry and showers. Annie needs to be let loose soon and Mandy needs a bath. Busy morning here. Tomorrow the floors will need to be scrubbed of doggie paw prints and other issues. There is always something to do if I feel like doing.

 Tasty, thanks for the reminder, my upright freezer needs some major organizing again. I don't know what I have in there anymore. I have a feeling once it is straightened up I will have an empty shelf too.

Anne, how nice of the staff to deliver the meals and free too. That had to have been a lot of work for them and hard using all the steps to get the food to you hot as well.

Karen and I had a really nice lunch and visit yesterday. That is until she started falling asleep at the table. Every time she gets done eating she falls asleep at the table. That is when I say I have to get going to Mandy. But we did or I talked a lot. LOL

Maybe I'll find something in the freezer that I will want for supper tonight. Lunch today is creamed veggies that I made yesterday. (potatoes, peas, onion, carrots and peas.) My family called it Goop. hehehe Mom used her garden veggies, I don't have that option but it still turned out darn good. And I have two more meals in the freezer for later.

Tasty- I cleaned our fridge freezer yesterday. It is so nice to have it organized.

Mamma-you are right about the humidity. It's bad out there. Dori and I just sat outside, there is no way I'm walking. I will go to swim class instead.

Quick visit here today. We're still in the 100 degrees temp wise. Looks like Sunday could hit 104. Sounds like even mad dogs and Englishmen should not go out in the midday sun next week. I'll order in for supper tonite. I fancy Fish and Chips this week. Be safe and cool, friends.

Ann, how nice they delivered your dinner free of charge to boot! Hope you enjoyed lunch today.

Mamma, I understand how Karen feels-I get sleepy also after a meal. I doubt I could fall asleep in a restaurant though.

Helen, I just checked and our temp is 97 right now. Add 10* for the heat index though. At any rate, I'm staying in.

Supper will be some pork cutlets, fried like schnitzel. I have a jar of red cabbage in the pantry I'll heat. Fried potatoes sound good, but that is what I ended making to go with supper last night, so I will pass on potatoes.

I just plan on doing the prep work and making whatever I can for the brunch tomorrow. I will probably get up early and make the spinach wonton cups.

Quiet here today! 
I did get out for a little bit of grocery shopping this morning and then took a run down to the lake to our favourite apple orchard but the apples I want are not ready yet.  Not really a wasted trip because it was so nice out and the drive was beautiful.
When I got back home, I baked the bread I had put together early this morning and made 2 batches of muffins.  Made Elza's chocolate oatmeal again (hubby really enjoyed the last batch) and also a date and orange one. 
Then I decided I might as well tackle the freezers and get them organised and get an inventory of what is actually in them.  That is now all done and the computer inventory is even updated and I am done for the day - in more ways then one!

Good evening, friends.
Today was a harder day for me. I made a salad around noon to go with some fish this evening, but the fish will be another day. While I was in my pump getting my legs squeezed, I fell asleep. DH sat down too, and he also fell asleep. An hour later when we got up, I could see how tired DH was and told him let's just get a pizza instead. He said after three days back at work and at three different schools, pizza, salad, and orange cake was a real treat. 

This morning at 8:05, DH got a text that he was needed at a different elem. school than the one he was originally promised. The text said he needed to be there for 8:30, so he had to race out the door. Looks like he will be at this school for a while as they are short two people.  

Tomorrow we will be getting up early and going over to see our girls. DH seems to think it will be good for me...just praying I can climb three flights of stairs!

Good news at work today -- the girl who interviewed yesterday got the job and will start a week from Monday. So I will not need to work extra hours after all! Pretty happy about that.

Good morning. Dori and I did get up and go walking this morning. So I'm not sure if I'm going to swim.we are sitting outside now there is a breeze but it's 89° and 52% humidity.

Tonight I was going to have sloppy joes but now thinking chili.

Tonight, Cal and Karen are going to start happy hour at the clubhouse again.i need to figure out something to take.

Elza- that is good news about them hiring a new person.

Lori- have fun today.
