Good morning! Good-bye February! It's 32° right now. Temps are falling fast...lost three degrees in an hour. The wind is howling! Butter chicken was good last night. Tonight we are having breakfast for dinner. I don't know if your TV station will cover it, but I have now seen a story about a private health care system that has a foothold in MA called "Steward". The report was about a woman dying after giving birth because a necessary medical device needed to stop bleeding in the woman's liver (damaged during giving birth) was not available. The device was recalled by the vendor because Steward did not pay its bill. There is a Steward hospital less than a mile from us, and before it became a Steward hospital, it was owned by the Catholic Church. Many of the nurses were "Sisters of the Bon Secours". It was one of the best hospitals in the area. So sad.... Oh, and the CEO of Steward just took possession of a $40,000,000 yacht! Will be going to the senior center for walkaerobics and Curtis. Probably it's going to be too windy for Bill to walk. No other plans at the moment. Enjoy your morning! Waving!

Good morning -- our temps definitely dropped yesterday after severe storms blew through in the afternoon. In the 30s right now, 50s later, and tomorrow will be rainy and chilly with highs in the 40s. Quite a change! Ann, I'd never heard of the Steward hospital system but I hope I never have to encounter them. $40 mil for a yacht? That guy lives in Richistan. Chris, have fun building bridges! I love that you enjoy subbing for these students and they enjoy having you there. I haven't done much real cooking recently but hope to do that this weekend. DH has spring break next week and I took a couple days off too, so Saturday through Tuesday will be time off for both of us. I want to have a chicken pot pie day and a lasagna day and get my freezer stocked! Happy Leap Day to everybody ~

Good morning. It is a beautiful sunny cold day. It was 11:00 this morning and it's only going to about 22 for the day.
Not sure what I'm doing today I am without internet powers out around the area so have no clue what it's like in other towns so I'm thinking of staying home and just working tomorrow.
Ann, stay warm today I guess we're all in for a chilly day.
Chris, enjoy your day of teaching. I also have United healthcare and it has been great to me for 14 years wow doesn't seem that long.
I guess if I'm going to stay home I should find something to do.
Have a great day.

Hello, good morning, and Happy Leap Day to one and all! Also, on this last day of the month, it is National Frogs Legs Day and National Surf and Turf Day.
Ann, growing up in Michigan, I was very familiar with Bon Secours, a Catholic hospital staffed by the Sisters of Bon Secours. They had a private hospital in an area just north of Detroit. I've been gone from Michigan now over 40 years, so not too familiar with them these days. However, from what I remember my DB mentioning several years ago, they've been bought out and/or merged with other hospitals. I have not heard anything about the Steward hospital system, but it's sad what greed does. That $40 million yacht should be sold, the $$$ go to the family of that lady that died, and Steward should no longer be connect to any hospital. Very sad.
Elza, how nice that you were able to also schedule a few days off from work while your DH is on spring break. I like the idea of a chicken pot pie and lasagna day; a little work, but afterwards it will be good to have the freezer ready with those meals to enjoy.
Bet, the pound cake I made yesterday was disappointing, very bland and a little dry. I have made other delicious pound cakes over the years, but when we try something new, things don't always go like we'd like them to. Now in the freezer, I am hoping I can come up with another way to rescue it and turn it into another dessert. Any ideas? Hope work goes quick and smoothly for you today.
Chris, enjoy your time building bridges---sounds like a fun time for everyone! Happy to read that the new meds Dan is taking are helping!
Need to start working on a menu for next week as well as a grocery list for shopping tomorrow, but first I have to take a bike ride. Dinner this evening will be a Trader Joe's Chinese meal---Orange Chicken, Fried Rice, and Egg Rolls. Waving! Lori

Good morning Not sure what is wrong but Mandy is not at all herself. When we got home from the pet area she seemed ok. Then I heard crying like pain. I petted her checked to see if I could find anything wrong. I asked her if she needed to go out again so off we went down the street. No nothing. She seemed fine when we got home again and then she started to be off and not comfortable. This morning she has an appointment with the groomer. I'm not sure if I should cancel or not. It's so hard to get into a groomer this time of year. We have to leave in an hour.
Not much planned for today, just the same ole same ole. I'll have to make some fun of my own one of these days.
Okay, I just got ahold of the groomer and rescheduled for Tuesday morning. As long as Mandy is not feeling up to herself I don't want to upset her anymore today. I'm just happy and surprised that they had an opening so soon. :)

Ann, That is horrible news. I had not heard that. But then our newscasters are all "in training", so we don't get the best news coverage. The whole station operation is for training. Stay warm and bundle up when you go out.
Chris, put a brick in your pocket so you don't get blown away. Be safe.
Elza, you better hide that chicken pot pie well so I don't find it. Mmmmmm Enjoy the free time with hubby. Those times are so very precious.
Bet, I hope you find something fun to do today.
Lori, I'll take the surf and turf, steak and crab legs for me. hehehe Not fond of frog legs, but then I don't like chicken and they really do taste a lot like chicken. Enjoy your meal, it sounds so very good.
Lunch today will be a hamburger patty and potato salad, and supper must might be a steak or riblets, whichever I can find first in the freezer. hehehe

Bet, you described perfectly how my grocery list is very much like my childhood Christmas lists. We would go through the catalog very carefully and mark all the things we would like. And, of course we never got everything or sometimes nothing on the list for one reason or another. My grocery list is much the same because my first sweep through the grocery ads I mark items with abandon then review with reality in mind. My experience has been better since Covid but I never know until it's delivered whether that one thing I really wanted was available. Sorry, that's a lot of words. 😳
Mamma, I didn't even know that Miracle Whip was not the same as mayonnaise til after I was married and reading recipes myself. I miss the tang in mayonnaise though people tell me Miracle Whip is sweeter. Chris, it's amazing how many different skills you have. Must be very rewarding for you at the end of each school day. Elza, great planning to have a short vacay with DH. Ann, interesting that your new facility has built in medical care as part of the total experience. It would have been good if Hubby's place had been like that. They didn't quite have that figured out yet. Lori, hope you were able to get a nice long bike ride in your schedule today. Bet, I'm glad you got the hot fudge sauce made. I always ask for extra. Elaine, another busy day for you helping others. You deserve that ribs and crab legs dinner! Jan, I've never had butter chicken. Is it spicy? Hi Birdy!
If I get moving pretty soon I'll make a zucchini casserole for supper. One of my comfort casseroles. I have some lemon cookie ice cream for dessert. Big hugs to all.

Hi. We are at the last Dr's. Appointment at 4:20, I hope they call her back soon. I am glad I have roast and everything going in the slowcooker. I am hungry, breakfast didn't last, lol.
Mamma- how is Mandy doing now?
Ann- I am really going to have to try butter chicken.
Elza- glad you are able to get off when DH has spring break.
Lori- a trifle would work with that pound cake. I love trifles.plus good way to use up dry baked goods.
Bet- so what kind of trouble did you get into today? I've gotten alot of reading done while waiting.
Zucchini casserole sounds yummy.
We use miracle whip here. I have a couple of recipes that call for mayo only so then I buy a small jar and make both recipes that week. Then I make a salad and mix it with our miraclewhip, lol.
Judy was just called back, I think I will read some more. 4 appointments in one day is to much. My bu$$ is sore, lol.

Well I must say it has been a day. Still no internet or power. Don't expect any improvement over night. I have kept busy. I did get the Moose Track Ice Cream made and an still working on the Crab Cakes. I spent some time searching different recipes on a flash drive and I think I fount both my Hot Fudge sauce from many years ago and my Crab Cake recipe. Made the Hot fudge last night and will see how the crab cakes are tomorrow night.
I have all of the emergency light on in the basement and a light in the bathroom so am set for the night. I even figured out that I can run a TV off my hot spot on my phone so can do that for a while when I go to bed. Everything is charging in case I need it. The only thing I don't have is my land line but so far today the cell has been working. fine.
We are a small town and people are great here. He have an even small town to our north but in most aspects we are one town. On gal that owns a Motel has opened up her place to any local of the 2 towns who need a warm place to sleep. The have Internet and TV. Might sound like much some have been with out any of them for over 24 hours. She is asking $29 for the night to cover her heating cost which is understandable as to heat a place like that this time of year when there is little to know business to cover any overhead isn't unreasonable. We have a resort here in town that just opened this past summer and all you hear out of them it they want to be part of the community and out of the goodness of their heart they are offering the same thing but their cost is $129 for the night. You don't want to read what is going on on Facebook. The community is up is arms. This is a big corporation that just put over a million dollars into this place and that is way they help the members of the community. You have to understand that about half of our year round residents are below the poverty level and are the ones that could use a warm place to sleep tonight. OK I am off my soap box. I need to get some dinner. My neighbor is on his way here (a 3 hour trip) to get some heat in his house so he doesn't have freeze up tonight. One he get a generator going he may be over to keep warm here for a while. I am sure he is going to need water for the toilet and other things when he gets here.
Enjoy your evening.
