I guess it is Saturday today. LOL With this working for 4 days, i sort of loose track of what day it is. lol Charlene didn't come on last night, i don't think, because we had bad lightening so i shut everything down before i went to bed.

Good morning. 61 here and a good chance of rain for a good part of the day. Sure has been the summer of rain here. It will be nice and cool tho. I didn't get my wish to sleep good. I slept good until 1, then woke up hot and sweaty. Don't know if I was having a hot flash or what! lol I opened the window and turned on the ceiling fan but didn't fall back to sleep until 2:30. Woke up at 5:30 which is about 2 hours earlier than I have been getting up. At least I can take a nap later if need be! We will make and can mincemeat but other than that we don't have much planned for the day. Might go check out the greenhouse by moms to see if they have any deals since they are retiring and going out of business.
Hope everyone has a great day.

Good morning Larry and all follow. After watering plants last night we went to the lake to watch the sunset. It didn't set over the lake it's more in land now. It was pretty but it reminded me that summer is going to fast.
Going to be H&H today we are going to a amusement park so hopefully can cool down with the water rides.
The guy came and fixed the lawn mower before I went to work yesterday. Well got home and went to mow and the handle that lifts and lowers the deck is not working. So I called him again. He will probably pick it Monday. Mean while my yard looks bad going to need some goats or a tractor to mow the hay.
Have a good day.

Good morning all! Hooray for the weekend. It was a busy week and a couple days (or hours) is very welcome. It rained hard the beginning of the week. The only downside to that was the parking lot flooded so that when I walked into the building and AC my feet were soaked and I got a bit of a sore throat along with feeling achey all over. Fortunately, I'm not one to get full blown colds.
Chores and possibly mowing the lawn is in the plans today along with visiting mom and dad. Her doctor and nurse actually came to the house this week. Since it was early enough, I could be there before work. That worked out real well.
Have a great day all. Enjoy these last summer days. I saw that the farmer's almanac is predicting a brutal winter.

Good Morning everyone...This is the first day that I could walk outside and not be hit by horrible humidity. So as soon as the dew dries off I am going to finally get the lawns mowed. But first I need to get gas for the mower and pick up everything in the way so I don't have to get on and off of the mower too often. We are mowing the pasture again so that takes a lot of time...and gas but it makes it look so nice it is worth it. Other than having Scott getting rich on tissues because of the drainage in my head all is well here. Have a wonderful day!

Good morning.
Larry, a drizzly day is a good day to just relax inside.
Melissa, I don't sleep well these days either but some of that might be age. I've never had mincemeat to know it before. I don't think it is popular in the south, like ruhbarb. Never had that either.
Wendy, I heard the north will have a colder winter, but I think they said the south will be warmer.
Sandy, sorry you are having so much trouble with your mower. Hope he gets it fixed soon.
Molly, it is so good to have you back with us here. You were really missed.
It's too wet to do anything outside but there is always plenty to do inside, plus spend time with the 2 grandsons. All week I have planned to go to the church to get some clerk work done but haven't made it. I did get the 12 videos finished and burned to a dvd so anyone else can lead if I'm not there. That will cover us until the kids go on break in December. But we have a meeting tomorrow night and another vote, so I will have to get ballots prepared.
Yesterday I finally took the blinds down in my room and hung roman shades DS had given me a few years ago. I had put it off because they didn't all have brackets and couldn't find the right ones. So it was quite a job but got it done. Then I took slats from one of the blinds that was broken and repaired one in the den that the cat had torn up a while back. Rather time consuming for cheap blinds but I did it. I plan to fix another one today. So I did accomplish something yesterday. Today won't be as productive.
Have a good one.

Good morning. 54 and sunny. It is to be a nice day. I guess I didn't post yesterday. I know I spent a lot of time here reading. Seems that most things are running quite smoothly.
I was tired yesterday and didn't get up until after 8 which is very late for me thus didn't get motivated to do anything until about noon time. Did get quite a bit done however. Emptied and cleaned the pond. The resident frog out there didn't seem to happy with me. Also let the terrarium toad and frog go in the pond after it was cleaned. They were delighted to have more room to swim. While I was out there I weeded the raised bed that I built last fall. It didn't fair very well this year so need to get more plants in it soon and hope they winter over.
Finally got plants on the side yard. Did it the lazy way. Just set the plants in there pots into the big planters. Couldn't see wasting all that soil to fill those big pots this late in the season. Just put bricks under them so they sit level with the top of the planters.
Started cleaning out the greenhouses and cleaning up all the plants that are just sitting on the deck. The all needed deadheading etc. I would like to get one greenhouse down today but don't think I will get quite that far. Wishful thinking on my part. I have decided to leave one of the big greenhouses up on the deck until everything comes in this fall rather than setting up the little one out by the garage. Usually both are off the deck in July but not this year. Am also toying with the idea of setting up lights this fall out in the shop at the back of the garage to keep some of the geraniums since I heat it all winter at about 40 degrees. It will free up some of my house of plants all winter.
Have a great day.

Good morning everyone. It is chilly and drizzling rain...kind of a dismal day but I can't control the weather. It certainly is an extreme change from the heat we had for too many days in a row. I know I will be wearing jeans and a long sleeve shirt today.
Yesterday was also a dismal day, so I had what I call a domestic day. Did laundry and some cleaning. I also froze 8 quarts of corn and made 4 pints of spicey tomato sauce that I use in meatloaf. Last night I made a Green Pepper hotdish for supper.(does my use of hotdish vs casserole tell you that I have MN roots? lol) It tastes like stuffed green peppers without the fuss.
My best friend stopped by late afternoon and stayed for several hours. We were celebrating her birthday. DS & DDIL also came over. DGS was with them and is begging for a sleepover tonight. He says he has to stay because next week they will be starting school. I agreed, so guess he will be my helper later today and tonight.
As Larry said, I didn't visit here last night since the puter was off due to weather conditions. I am about sick of rain and storms.
Lily stopped by briefly yesterday afternoon and said she had read here at the library, but didn't log in to post. I think her and her DIL are getting along quite well which is a relief.
Melissa...I am sorry that you aren't sleeping...hopefully you can get a nap. I am not a minced meat lover and have never made it. Hope you can find some plants at the GH sale.
Sandy...that dang mower is certainly giving you fits, isn't it? Hope he gets it fixed soon.
Wendy...glad to hear you got some rain. That is wonderful that the DR comes to see your Mom. I am sure getting out and going to the Dr tires her out completely. Glad it worked out you could be there as well.
Molly...nice to hear you are getting more bearable temps and lower humidity.
Leslie...I think your plate is probably full right now, so hopefully someone else can take over some or all of the responsibilities you have at church.
Karen...what an honor to your DFIL....and congrats on the new great nephew. Glad you could figure out a place for the newly gifted recliner. Many people don't have couches any more since they take up so much room. You know, I am growing cypress vine this year and haven't even seen a bloom yet...wonder what that is about?
Kathy...I was surprised to read that you are going to retire. Will you still work enough hours to get insurance? That is my biggest expense in retirement since it is 3 more years until I can get Medicare. I know you will enjoy it.
Guess I'd better get o with my day and quit blabbing on and on....have a great day everyone! Charlene

Leslie-The mincemeat we make is green tomatoes and granny smith apples, chopped fine in a food processor, 8 lbs of each. A pound of beef suet is also chopped fine and added. Then it's mixed together with 4 lbs of raisins, 1 Tbs each of cinnamon, allspice, cloves, and salt, 1 cup cider vinegar and 4 lbs of sugar. We put it in a large roast pan and cook it in the oven 350 for 90 min. It smells amazing! Once its cooked we can it. You use it to make mincemeat pie. I have also made sweet bread with it. I grew up with this. My grandma always made it.

Melissa, it does sound good. It's funny, though, how different parts of the country have their own special foods or recipes. I'm sure if anyone I know had ever made mincemeat pies I would have heard about them. I have heard of mincemeat pies, but only in reading about them.

I have my Mom's mincemeat recipe and it was always made with venison. She always cooked the neck for the meat. It was a long process and something I never learned to like. It was my Dad's favorite.

Charlene, my cypress vine has only had a few blooms, but it is in the pot with the cardinal climber by the mailbox. The cardinal is red and the cypress white do I can tell which is which. But the cardinal hasn't done well either. I also have a cardinal in another spot that is a little better, but not much. I haven't even seen any seeds yet either. Hopefully it will pick up now that we have had rain so I can get some seeds for next year, especially the cypress vine since I don't have any seeds left of that. Of course I can buy some. I was also hoping for moonflower vine seeds but I guess I will be buying those also.

Good morning.
With all the rain that everyone around was getting we only ended up with 1/10 of an inch. Since they were predicting a lot more rain I hadn't watered the pots for 3 days so that will need to be done today. At least we got enough to make it a little easier to weed but not too muddy to crawl around in.
Today's plans are to weed, pull and cut down plants and make some bread pudding. I also need to call all the kids and tell them if they want tomatoes to come and get them or I will be throwing I have have picked, which is a lot, before I get a problem with fruit flies.
Charlene I can't really call it retiring. I will be receiving retirement benefits but I still plan on working 3 to 4 days a week. I need to work 30 hours a week to keep benefits and that is about all I have been working most of the summer anyway with the heat we are having. I should be able to save quite a bit this way to have when I do fully retire from work.
Walking around the yard this morning I was surprised to see a lupine blooming. Also of all the butterfly bushes I got from Charlene: the yellow one is blooming again this year but not as well as it has the past 2 years...2 bushes that I got and haven't bloomed for 2 years are finally blooming this year, both lavender colored, and the one I got from her this spring is a very pretty purplish red color. None of them are doing as good as they should since they aren't getting the sun they should so I am thinking of moving them all to the south end of the alley this fall.
I better get dressed soon and get something done.

Good morning everyone! I don't know what happened, but I lost the first try of my post.
It's a beautiful day here....for now. The forecast for next week is not all that good so I will appreciate today.
I never got on the computer last night. I invited my best friend to this nice Italian restaurant for a belated birthday. I was in Greece when she had her birthday, and we celebrate each others. The food was delicious.
Later on, when I changed into my pjs it was time to catch up on the Olympics. I let Zorro out for his late night 'washroom' business. I did not open the back door for very long...just a few minutes. When I sat down, suddenly this what appeared a dark bird flying in a frenzy over my head. Yes, you read it right. I froze! My glasses were not on so I presumed a bird must have flown in when I opened the back door....NOT....it was a bat...I don't know which of us was the most frightened. Elle Cid hid in my bedroom, and Zorro was very non responsive....hmmm. So much for my protector. I did not scream, I was very calm....opened the back door and after a last turn of the house, the bat flew out....Thank goodness none of my pets were harmed. Talk about an experience. You should have seen my face when I looked up to see this live flying object.....!!!! I'm wondering if this is a message of some kind????
Today is up for grabs. Still not sure what I will be doing. It's my DGSs soccer tournament, but with this heat it might be risky to venture out. I do have to mow the lawn...it has to be done.
Have a nice day!
