Just want to get this started. I'll be right back.
Okay. I wanted to be sure someone else didn't start one while I was typing.
It has been an interesting day at our house. Today would have been my DFIL's 89th birthday were he still alive today. That hardly seems possible. Time zips by far too quickly anymore. Anyway, one of DH's nieces gave birth today to her first child - a boy. His parents graced him with his great-grandfather's name as his middle name. It's been nostalgic and very blessed day for our family!
I finally made it outside to gather the cypress vine seeds that I have been meaning to tend to before now. I'm going to have plenty to share if anyone might be looking for that particular seed. While I was out on the patio sorting seed from chaff, I found myself in the middle of a hummingbird war! It felt like I was in the movie The Birds, for Pete's sake. I don't know how many were actually swarming around me but it was more than I usually have at one time - I think more than 3. While sitting here typing, I looked out the window and saw two sitting at the same feeder (my old one I just put out a few days ago). Even though the other feeders have had 6 ports on them, the hummers do not allow another to eat with them. This time, two females did eat together. Must be something about this feeder with only two ports on it, I guess.
I accepted three friend requests on Facebook today that all are connected to the school where I used to teach. One was a former colleague who taught our kids in 5th grade. It will be nice to stay in touch with her now. The other two were from parents of former students. This is kind of like my last hurrah in that for me it is a long overdue acknowledgement that I am not going to be teaching anymore. The one request had sat in my FB friend request bank for a few years because I wasn't comfortable being FB friends with the parents of any of my students. I felt it blurred the line too much for me. I got a brand new request today from a different parent, and while I thought about whether or not I should accept that request, it just occurred to me that I had no reason not to anymore, so I accepted both requests. I'm so glad I did accept because I was able to see "my" former kids as they have grown up away from me. I think these friendships are going to be very special to me!
Finally, DH and I took Chinese food to his aunt tonight for supper. She's a dear lady who doesn't get around well anymore, and it is getting her seriously down. It's pretty sad because she was always a spitfire, but now there isn't much of that spunk in her anymore. While we were there, DH helped her set up her DVR so she could watch the movie "Joy" that DH gave her a while ago. She couldn't figure out how to make the DVR work so she hadn't watched it yet. DH wanted her to see it because she is a HUGE QVC shopper and fan, and the movie has a lot of references to QVC in it. While we were there, she started giving us things, and not just small things either. She wanted DH to take the Santa Claus needle points that his mother had done for the aunt years ago. He didn't want to take them now, but she insisted. After that, we were both shocked when she asked him if he liked the recliner I was sitting in. It's a beautiful chair, so of course he said he did. She said, "It's yours! Find someone to help you come get it before I set fire to it." She's not the kind of person to be kidding about that, so DH agreed to find someone to help him. It is a big man's chair (DH is not small) and the aunt cannot get in and out of it anymore, so she wants it gone. Our house is pretty full of our own furniture so we wondered where we might put it. DH had a stroke of genius when he came up with the idea that we could get rid of our sofa that we HATE, HATE, HATE and put the chair in its place. We still have a loveseat and plenty of seating if we have a family gathering, even for our large family. SO ... it looks like DH is going to find someone to help him get the sofa bed out of the family room and go get the chair from his aunt. One thing is for certain, being rid of the heavy broken-down sofa bed is going to make it much easier to get around the family room with my seedling plant tables all winter long. Karen's kind of a happy camper tonight! ;)
