Simple and Delicious Swiss Steak-cooktocook
The name says it all! Since it is impossible to find round steak in any of the stores where I shop, I decided to give this recipe a try. I honestly don't care for beef cubed steaks, but I was hungry for Swiss Steak so I thought why not. I am so glad I did! Instead of a tough, chewy cube steak, this just turned out to be a most tender, melt in you mouth piece of meat. So good! DH who also doesn't care for beef cube steaks could not believe how delicious this was and immediately said I could make this anytime. Simple and easy to put together, maybe all of 10 minutes and then the oven does the rest.--Lori Ingredients: 6 (4 to 5 oz.) beef cubed steaks (I bought 6 but only used 3 for the two of us; froze the others for another time) 1 (14oz.) can of stewed tomatoes 1/4 cup flour 1 (12oz.) jar of mushroom gravy 1/2 cup chili sauce Directions: 1--Place cube steaks in a 9X13-inch pan. 2--Combine stewed tomatoes and flour in a small sauce pan. Stir in mushroom gravy and chili sauce. Bring to a boil, simmer 1 minute. 3--Pour sauce over steaks. Cover; make at 375* for 35-45 minutes. 6 servings Notes:I added sliced green peppers and onions before baking like I normally used to do with my round steak Swiss Steak. After 40 minutes of baking, I took the lid off the pan and baked another 5 minutes to thicken the sauce.
