Air Fryer toasted Cheese Sandwich-Birdy
I’m sure everyone knows how to build a sandwich, but this is how I put mine together for toasting in a air fryer. Since I have been using my air fryer for toasted cheese sandwiches, I don't want to do them any other way! I use a hearty homemade style cracked wheat bread which gets very crisp and crunchy but the interior stays soft. You might have to adjust your time if you are using different kinds of bread, but the idea is pretty much the same for anything. Birdy
For one sandwich:
2 slices of bread
2 or 3 slices of cheese
Mayonnaise (full-fat works best)
Any other additions you like
Spread mayo on one side of a slice of bread and turn it over.
Add the cheese and any other fillings to the plain side of the bread. Layer the other fillings between slices of cheese to help keep the sandwich together.
Place the other slice of bread on top and press down to get good contact. This will help keep the top slice on when the convection fan starts. (I have seen some people complaining about the bread blowing off in fryers with a very strong fan but I haven’t had a problem. One person put a spoon on top until the melted cheese acted like glue and then removed it.)
Spread mayo on the outside top of sandwich.
Preheat the air fryer at 400F according to directions for your machine. Place the sandwich in the basket or on the tray and insert back in fryer.
Toast at 400F for 2 min., flip, toast for 2 min., and flip. Toast for a min. or so more if it isn’t browned to taste.
I like my bread crisp and crunchy. Depending on what kind of bread you are using, the thickness, and the brand of air fryer, your times may vary. I suggest checking early.
