Good morning.
It looks lovely outside to start our day, but DH assures me it is miserable out there. He was out bright and early running around with the care-providers for our out-of-town friend's mother. One was coming in on a very early train, and DH had to go pick up the other one to be with him when she got off the train. It made things less awkward since the new provider didn't know DH from a hill of beans. Anyway, DH went and got the regular provider, and then they went to pick up the sub provider at the train station. The train was late getting in, which frustrated everyone. DH's phone died when he tried to call me to tell me he'd be late, so he tried on the regular provider's phone. I HAD been sleeping when the phone rang, but since I didn't recognize the name on the caller ID, I didn't answer. It was obvious what was happening when the call came in again seconds later. That is usually DH's and my signal to pick up the phone because it is important. As it turned out, he was going to run the gals to the grocery store, come home and plug in his phone, and then go back and pick them up when they were done shopping. It's been a very screwy morning to say the least! DH woke me at 3 am to tell me he was awake and I could turn off my alarm. Seriously? I was not amused because it takes me a long time to get back to sleep when I wake up in the nighttime. I left my alarm on because I was afraid he'd end up falling back to sleep, so an hour and a half later, I was woke up by the alarm going off. I was able to get back to sleep, but the phone was just ringing again at 7 am when DH called to tell me the train was running behind. ANYWAY, the weather guesser confirmed what DH had already told me. We have 100% humidity right now. YUCK!!!
The only thing I plan on doing today is changing the hummingbird syrup. The way the hummers have been at the feeders, I have a feeling they are empty anyway. The rest of my day is going to be played by ear. What happens - happens!
Glad you got your mowing done, Larry!
Sandy, it's good to hear that your site is back to normal now.
I wilt at the thought of your upper 90s, EZdoesit. We're supposed to be warm (upper 80s) and humid until Sunday. After that, we will be in the 70s for a few days. I'm going to LOVE that. Thumbs up on your Mark Twain quote. It's a good one.
Dave, I hope you get the rain you need.
Hi Molly! It sounds like you stumbled onto a good thing when you couldn't get the stumps up. Good for you! I plan to always, always, always grow zinnias from now on. The hummingbirds and goldfinches do love them, as do the butterflies. I happen to like the colorful nature of their blooms so it is a win/win/win/win around here.
You are right, tasty, the sound of lawn mowers is once again going to fill the air with many of us getting rain lately. Our grass is almost completely green again, and could stand to be mowed.
Bette, it sounds like your trip to the community garden really paid off. The tomatoes around here have been splitting also. I'm not sure how I feel about using them, so I haven't just yet. Have a good day at work.
Are you just getting rid of the viburnum and nine bark, Robin, or are you going to move them? I have both of them on my "dream list" of things to plant for wildlife one day. Maybe I need to rethink that plan ...
Kathy, by the looks of our forecast, your 70s will be moving our way before too long. How fabulous to see those temps again, eh? How you feeling about Big Brother these days? I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, so to speak, with this week's nominations. I am stunned that Paulie may go out tonight. Corey hasn't really been on my radar, so that is a bit of a surprise also. Expect the unexpected, right? How are you doing in the BB pool? I forgot to write down who you have.
You're right, Stella, the Olympics have had some interesting situations pop up this year. I don't know what to make of the current controversy. Thank goodness it isn't up to me to figure out.
Charlene, your talk of fresh corn has me salivating. Our local grocery store has it on sale this week. We just haven't had the chance to get out and pick some up yet. Freezing it for Thanksgiving sounds like a great idea! Gee, I hope you didn't like corn very much since you can't eat it anymore. I guess that just leaves more room for you to eat the things you like and can eat, right?
We have been having the debate around here also as to when to have the windows open or the A/C on, Melissa. I usually opt for having the windows open, but with the humidity being what it has been, I'm letting DH win the debate. The A/C stays on until the humidity is much better.
Joyce, it's good that you can look on the bright side of triple digits. Generally, 90s might seem like a bad thing, but not if you had been having days in the 100s. If you can figure out how to get back the body you had 10 years ago, I'd love to hear how you did it. LOL! I'm all in on doing the same. :D
It sounds like we could have had a nice conversation in the middle of the night, Leslie. I was awake about the same times you were. Your metal shelving unit sounds like a great pick-up! Good for you.
Joan, it is nice seeing you posting here this morning. Your post reminds me that I need to get outside with an envelope and snag some seed from the cypress vine that is done blooming now. As much as I enjoy seeing all the lovely things in the spring and summer, I have to admit that I do like the time of year when I can save seeds. Just feeds my seed addiction, I guess. Good luck with the rainy-day projects with your grands!
I hope I didn't miss anyone. If so, I'm waving at you! It is nice that it takes so much time to reply to people because we have so many posting. It's a great problem to have!
Wishing you all a thankful or thrilling Thursday. Take your pick!
