Good morning everyone. It is 48º with a chilly wind and going to lower to mid 70s later. The sun is shining, but still hazy from the fires in Canada. I have to remember that even though it is hazy, I need sunscreen. I forgot that yesterday and have sunburned cheeks because of it.
Yesterday I fed my friends birds...twice. I also took Curt and Lair to the Amish greenhouse. In between my trips here and there, I managed to plant 4 trays of seedlings (50 per tray) and I got 3/4 of the yard trimmed and mowed. Late afternoon the Mennonite guy that shingled my roof brought a skid loader of dirt to fill in the tracks the big truck left in my yard when they did it. He helped me get it leveled and I am debating rather I will sow grass seed or just wait a few weeks and the grass will spread and fill it. I think I am going with the wait theory.
Today I plan to feed friends birds twice again. I don't have to fill all of the feeders the 2nd time I go out, I just need to feed the orioles. They go through 2 oranges and 1 large jar of grape jelly per day. I will finish mowing and possibly plant a few more seedlings. Any indoor jobs will keep until tomorrow when our high will be in the mid 50s and very windy making it feel like 40s. That sounds like a good day to be inside.
The guy that is getting 40 tomato plants from me stopped by yesterday and said he will be here 1st of next week to get them. I will be happy to tell them good-bye.
Wishing everyone a happy Thursday. I bet Leslie is starting the countdown to her retirement day. Glad to hear Gayle had a nice birthday shopping trip. Charlene

Good morning. It was 29° this morning but is sunny and going to maybe 60°. Yesterday's high was 49°with a very cold wind. There was no frost here this morning however, not even on my car. That is how dry the air is right now. I don't see any damage but of course all I have growing is perennials. Worked turned out to be a lot longer than expected yesterday. I never made it to the 2 golf courses I was suppose to stop at with posters etc. By the time i got home last night I was even to tired to read here. It was dinner and bed.
I have one job to my north today so will take a different route home and hit the 5 golf course up there. Of course I need to pass right by my favorite greenhouse so will make another stop there. There are some more perennials I need for fillers since I never got mine planted.
Charlene, you certainly had a busy day yesterday. Leave it to a man to over think things and throw a monkey wrench in the works. Enjoy the nice weather outside today and no sunburn.
Melissa, I am sure you are happy no game yesterday. Congratulations on the girls win. What a proud mama you should be and your DD should be too.
I really need to get moving toward leaving for work.
Have a great day.
Bet

Good morning. 50 and we finally are getting some rain. We needed it badly. Its a nice gentle rain so at least its soaking in.
Yesterday was another busy outside day. I potted up more plants and put a couple more in the ground. I moved all the seedlings off the deck on to the rolling cart now that I had room. The deck looks really nice with so many potted plants on it and cleaned up. I wanted to get some things in the garden but just ran out of time and energy.
Dd got home about 3. We went for culvers ice cream last night since softball was there and they got a share in the profits.
I need to get a few groceries this morning. We need to leave at 2 for softball. Will see what I get done in between.
Charlene-Must be great for them to have so many orioles. Seldom seen here.
Bet-Safe travels. A greenhouse stop sounds good.
I better get going to town. Have a great day.

Charlene, how many orioles do your friends have at their feeders? That's a lot of jam and oranges. It is a cloudy day here. A few sprinkles of rain early. I am glad I mowed yesterday. Later today I will be making a rhubarb dessert for DD and family. I'm also having another meal of asparagus. I hope to spend the rest of the day reading as it is that kind of day. Marlene

Good afternoon! Sunny and 86° . I frittered the morning away and now it's getting too hot to do gardening outside. I did transplant my plumeria tree from pot to ground. I sure hope it takes. I'd like to plant more zinnia seeds but found ants in my stored peat and promix. Maybe I'll do it tomorrow morning.
I did go to the pool yesterday afternoon. It may have helped in getting some rain started. We got a 1/2" of rain, possibly another this afternoon. We might be approaching our rainy season. I hope so.
I'll go check on Pastor's mother. I don't think she'll be going to the beauty parlor but I want to check on her. Have a good afternoon all!

Good afternoon. I was here earlier to read but didn't have time to post anything. As it was, I was late getting to the caregivers meeting because Zoom needed me to update the version I was using. That took forever, and then one of the people in the group was not familiar with how his camera operated so we saw all kinds of things he was unknowingly sharing from his computer. He ended up settling for no picture on his end because he couldn't figure things out, just listening and commenting.
We are still pretty dang chilly. I turned the furnace off days ago in the belief we weren't going to need it anymore. Probably guessed wrong on that one. It is supposedly 61° outside going to 68° later on based on the laptop app's opinion. My phone is still saying we ought to make it to 70°. It is little difference in reality, but in my mind those 2 degrees matter. The breezy conditions could stop at any time and I would be very happy. I like to see my spinner spin, but not as much as it has lately.
I need to go outside to see how things did overnight. I don't think we got a frost or freeze, but I would still like to see how the plantings have done. Maybe I'll even plant the last of the annuals I grew indoors. Watering with the hose isn't going to feel great if I should happen to get wet while it is still chilly, but a plant mama has to do what she has to do. I'm looking forward to getting everything settled in its place. Then I can start all over with weeding again. LOL! I do believe I have to stop with the native plants I start from seed. I'm going to be out of room if I stay within the boundaries I have set for myself. I may need to get very creative even with what I have grown, but no more perennials.
Well, DH is telling me about a part in the dishwasher that has broken. Better go check on that. It would figure that the warranty ran out on that 2 days ago. We had decided to not renew it. Bad move? Probably, if Jerry can't fix it. Being a needy homeowner sucks! Just saying.
Have good day.

Good afternoon. Temp is currently at 65° and sunny. Got almost to frost stage here last night but not quite. We did our breakfast and shopping run this morning. Just got home and got stuff put away. Now I need a rest. But will not be taking a nap. Having enough trouble sleeping at night the last few nights. Have a good day everyone.

We went out for breakfast and then on over to the mainland for a few errands. Been busy getting caught up on some housework since we got home. Cleaned 2 bathrooms, cleaned all the mirrors and so far have got our bedroom furniture polished - should do the rest if I find some more enthusiasm - or maybe it will wait for another day!
It was 34 when I got up this morning - had been colder as roofs and cars were frosty - but it is now up to 60 and absolutely gorgeous outside. We have a long weekend co ing up this weekend and of course, rain is expected. It is the big "planting " time in this part of Ontario so maybe rain will be appreciated by the gardeners.
Enjoy the day 🙂

Good evening. It has rained most of the day. I dumped 3.5 inches from the gauge but a little of that was from the last time we had a shower. It's still raining and only in the low 60s, so cooler than it has been. We had plant lunch today so don't need supper. Tomorrow will be 10 more working days and Monday will be the last Monday I have to get up early for work. Next week will be my last full week.
Karen, hope it isn't a major fix for the dishwasher.
Tomorrow is my early day so will head to bed early.

Good evening,
Just getting here; ran a few errands this morning then worked for a while so didn't get home until 4ish.
We've been sunny all day but I didn't pay much attention to the temp. Somewhere in the 70s is all I know.
Mary, if the smoke from the Canadian wildfires is affecting you, then I guess that is what they were referring to in the weather yesterday. I didn't think it had/would spread this far.
Funny thing about the Orioles. Charlene seems to have a lot where she is & we have none here. Even though they are called Baltimore Orioles & I live only 150 miles south of Baltimore. Makes me wonder how they got that name?
The few things that I have already potted up from my garden shopping seem to be doing really well.
Which brings me to a question about my Mandeville May as well ask it here. It is in a pot and right now gets mostly morning sun. It started getting buds at least a couple of weeks ago . In fact more buds than usual. But I see no sign of them opening. Not enough sun? Too much rain or maybe the cool temps we've had from time to time. What do you think? Move to a sunnier spot or wait & see if they open?
Karen, I turned my heat completely off a couple of weeks ago but have turned it back on to take the chill out in the mornings. Hope nothing serious wrong with the dishwasher.

Good evening. I have a few minutes before DH and I go for a drive down by the river to watch the sun set. I guess the sunsets have been pretty spectacular lately due to the Canada wildfires, but we haven't actually caught them. One of the local TV stations shares photos that people send them. I'd like to see for myself tonight, and since it is "date night" DH agreed to the drive before we watch the last two episodes of Young Sheldon of the season.
I didn't do any more planting today. The fifth person who was to take daisies isn't responding now to messages about when she wants to get them. I told her in a PM that she'd have to dig them because I can't. If that is holding her up, I wish she'd say so. I could make other arrangements if need be. Tomorrow one of DH's cousins is coming to dig up for herself and her DB. Depending on what she takes, I will begin planting around the empty spaces left near the daisies. I'm not begging the neighbor to take the daisies. If some are left and she asks again, that'll be fine.
Today while I was sitting here at the desk, I saw a wren that came and sat on the feeder pole. I was so startled that I didn't bother to pay attention to if it was a house wren or a Carolina wren. Which ever it was, it motivated me to get outside and deal with the gourd birdhouse I started tinkering with a couple of years ago. When I grew it, the thing never really got very big so I was disappointed. Still, I drilled a hole of sorts in the thing last year after I cleaned it up a bit. Today I polyurethaned it so I can hang it outside. I originally planned to paint it with a pretty design ala Stella from years ago, but it is a nice golden color naturally which looks pretty next to the side of the garage where I hung it. I can be very happy with it as is. That'll be particularly true if I see a wren try to nest in it. Actually, any bird interest will thrill me.
When I was in the garage getting the gourd birdhouse ready to go out, I saw the mama mallard waddling towards her nest. It didn't seem to bug her when I went out to hang the birdhouse, but daddy duck flew off. Usually, they aren't disturbed by me being out there. Oh well. All I need is her to be on the nest. Hopefully he has already taken care of business.
The hummers are definitely here to stay for the summer. I hear them when I go outside and see them at the feeder. We sure do miss them over the winter. Between my flowers and the birds, this time of year is my favorite!
Well, DH is pushing me to get going. I better not keep him waiting. If I get any good pictures of the sunset, I will post them. If not, at least we got out of the house. Have a nice night!
