Has anybody grown wax begonia from seeds? How hard was it?

I did Bada Bing begonias one year. They take forever to grow to a good seedling size. For me, not worth the work.

I tried some variety of begonias from seed one year and germination was poor and many damped off. Cheaper to buy or I usually do cuttings in the fall to winter over. Charlene

I start both wax begonias and non stop begonias every year. Usually they do very well.

Charlene First, how do you quote just a portion of what somebody says instead of the whole post? I hilite what I want & hit Quote but I still get the entire post. What am I doing wrong? Anyway, that's what I do too Charlene. Problem is I now have 2 large pots of all white begonias. LOL I want some pink & some red to go with them. Swallowtail has the pellet seeds. Fifty of them for less than $3.00

Gayle, I don't know if there is a way to do what you are wondering about. What I do is just delete the unwanted part & the quote box resizes itself.
Edited to say that I Googled this question & the only way to get just a portion of the quoted post is to delete the unwanted section.

Thanks Angela. That's kind of what I figured. Works a little different than TOH did.

... Cheaper to buy or I usually do cuttings in the fall to winter over. Charlene I am SO glad you said this, Charlene! I bought a mix of wax begonias this year for the strawberry pot - white with bronze leaves, red with green leaves and bronze, and pink with green leaves. I think I will take cuttings this year also so I don't have to buy them again next year. I can't believe I haven't done that in years past!

Charlene/Karen, would you please explain on how to do the cuttings? When you have time, of course. Parhaps I should try something like that! 😊

Like your new avatar. I just take cuttings about 3 inches long from the end of the plant. I take off all except the top 2 leaves and place them in moist potting soil. If it is too dry they will wilt and die and if it is too wet they will get stem rot. I put my begonia cuttings on an east windowsill so they get some light but not a lot of direct sun. It takes about 2 to 3 weeks and you will see signs of new growth. I don't use rooting hormone, but some may. Charlene

Thanks, Charlene! I may try this! I know, isn't this a hoot? The non-gardener wanting to try rooting a begonia! Stranger things have happened! LOL
Thanks on the avatar comments. The other was just a little too up close & personal! I take such ghastly pictures especially if they are posed. So, till I find another that I like better, I'll be fiddling around with what I use! Poor friends here will never know what to expect! 😊
