Good morning everyone. It was 35º this morning and going to mid 50s later. Tonight will be in the 30s again and then we flip the page and the following days will be in the 40s at night and 60s and possibly 70s during the day. I'm ready for that.
Yesterday was a busy day. I got the 6 baskets planted for my front porch and have them in the GH for now. I also planted up a few geraniums to take to the cemetery on Memorial Day. I transplanted several broccoli seedlings and also a few cucumbers.
I talked with the friend that I went to breakfast with on Sunday and told her about my sewing machine quitting working. She said her husband had bought her a sewing machine a few years ago and I could have it and the stand for it. She doesn't enjoy sewing and said she'd used the machine maybe 2 or 3 times. I offered to pay her, but she turned that down and said she just wants to get it out of her basement.
I didn't tell you that DGS#2 girlfriends house burned on Saturday. She and the boys were not there...thank God. She and the boys are now living with DGS across the street from me. Friends of hers have started a go fund me and also a donation page on FB.
I need to tidy up the house this morning before my friends come for lunch. Not sure what else is going to happen here today.
Leslie...I am so happy you saw right through what the HR person was trying to pull on you. It does sound like retirement is exactly what you need right now. Happy Tuesday to all. Charlene

I did refresh the post as I started reading and no one has replied to Charlene. Leslie, as others have said, we all know when it is time to retire. Bible Study this morning and then a stop at the library to pick up a book waiting for me. Sorry about DGS#2 house Charlene. Just last week there was a house fire about 4 miles from where the couple escaped with only the clothes on their backs. The gentlemen had only his tighty whitey's on and ran back into the house to retrieve his cell. No word yet on the cause of the fire. The house was almost 100 years old and updates had been done periodically. "Every day you do something right."Marlene

Good morning. 35 and windy again, high of 58. Sunny but oh this wind. Yesterday the sun went away by 2 to full cloud cover. Feels like we can’t get a whole day of sun and its been that way since fall. I’m also ready to flip the weather page and hope to see a sun on the many of them. Geesh! We do have some 60s forecast which will be nice. I keep wondering when the last of the snow will melt. I’m down to just a few piles from snowbanks. Yesterday I removed the small pile off the last flowerbed! There is still a decent amount across the road on the shady side as well as down in the woods. This is getting late to be looking at snow. I think some of the parking lot snowbanks will last well in to summer.
I got my grocery shopping done yesterday. First stop was dhs work to retrieve my purse from his vehicle. I brought him a bonus cup of coffee so he was happy. By the time I was home it was 11, and by the time I had things put away it was lunch. I finally went outside about 2:30 and worked on getting dog piles picked up, then picked up sticks from the front yard and cleaned off the fern bed. I see lots of leaves have blown back in to other beds but with the wind again today no use dealing with those yet. I came in at 5 to make dinner and after dinner dh and I went to home depot for supplies for my moms. I’m going to be putting in her raised bed/pond this weekend so needed timbers and screws. You know I love a good landscape project so I’m excited about it.
Not sure what I will work on today. Softball at home at 4:30. Raking is out with the wind. I really want to do the front yard but need to get rid of the last snowbank yet there. Guess I’ll just see what I get in to as I go. Dh had a flat tire this morning so he has my car. We pulled so many big staples out of that fish house as well as used nails to put up new osb panels so I was worried about that. Dh said hes blaming the home depot parking lot since we were there last night.
Charlene-Sorry that dgs’s gf lost her house. Was it a total loss or were they able to get anything out of it? I would be hard to loose all of the kids things. Nice of your friend to give you a sewing machine.
Leslie-Its definitely time for you to be out of that place. Let the count down begin!
Tasty-How exciting to have your new kitchen project under way!!
Well I should do something productive. Have dishes to put away so will start there. Definitely need to vacuum as well. Have a great day.

Linda....I need to make a correction to the info I gave you yesterday. I believe that recipe makes 24 muffins. I said 12 because I always make the large muffins and that's what the recipe makes. Sorry about the mistake. Charlene

The sky here can't decide if it wants to be sunny or cloudy. One thing is for sure, though, it is windy and cold. Our forecast is to be in the low 40s for our high with periodic rain. I don't think we'll get snow anymore today, but it was still expected overnight in some areas when I watched the news before bed. I kept busy yesterday, but did not ever quite make it to the garage to work on the desk area. If anything, I probably added to the mess on the desk. I decided to take down the card table in the office and put the single flat I had growing in here out on the table in the family room. I just had to move one light and open a window blind that annoyed the crud out of DH. He's been so fixated on keeping that room dark for so long that I was immediately uplifted by the extra light in the room after I opened the blind. My solar batteries kicked in! It may not be as far up as I would like, but DH did open that extra window blind for me this morning when he got up. We don't even have sunshine so I don't get his need to keep out the light. He won't wear sunglasses because they won't help. Moving to another chair is not something he likes to do, but if he wants to see his TV that is what he'll need to do for another week or so. I don't ask much of him, so I am not really inclined to give on this. It's not like this is a new activity. I've done this in the family room for probably close to 20 years. Anyway, the battle of the window blind is behind us - for today. I took out the extra light and coffee cans I used to hold up the light bar as well as other plant paraphernalia that hadn't gone out before. All that landed on the desk until I can sort out things. I did some kitchen stuff also. That felt great to do! Thank you to Bet for the inspiration. I got my food inventory done and a grocery list started of what I will need to complete the menus I planned. I had boiled some eggs thanks to Gayle's mention of them over the weekend. I needed to get those used somehow, so I made macaroni salad for supper. I haven't done that in a long, long time. It wasn't my best end product, but it was edible and screamed spring even if the weather wasn't. Every time I do the food inventory and menu plan, I wonder why I don't do that all the time. LOL! We have a ballot initiative we need to go out and vote for some time today. I am thinking right after I get off here if it isn't raining. Our county is taking away half of the funding for fire and rescue for our town. The best option seems to be a small property value tax increase. It'll hurt for a while, but better than not having our services when we need them. Additionally, we have family who are members of our fire and rescue departments. Their livelihood could depend on this passing. So, rain or shine we will be voting. Charlene, that is a wonderful blessing to have the offer of a sewing machine when you need one! So good that you spoke up when you did so your friend could make the offer. Even better that you won't have to pay for it. So sorry to hear about your DGS's GF's house fire. At least she had somewhere to go with her kids. I hope the funding goes well so she can get back on her feet. Tuesday is Bible Study day for me, too, Marlene. I am going tonight, though. I have to talk to the fella who initially got me into being a greeter at church. Someone else has taken over the ministry and is really rather pushy. I need more details about what is going on before I decide if I will continue on or not. I don't need more pressure and won't have this taking away my joy in my new church home. Sorry, Melissa, about the dang wind keeping you from raking. It has to be so frustrating to see that needing to be done, wanting to do it, but the wind stopping you from even trying because it would be a waste of your time. Too bad about the flat tire on DH's vehicle. We never quite know what may have caused them if we have been around. Mary, you are windy too? Sheesh! That is a heck of a swath of territory dealing with wind if Melissa has it in Minnesota, we have it in Ohio, and you have it in Kentucky. I am gathering up stuff for a sale at church. It'll feel good to get rid of a few things, won't it? Well, DH is ready to go vote. Guess I better finish up and get dressed so we can go. Wishing everyone a terrific Tuesday. Waving to those I missed.

About the wind....unless I say it's not windy, just assume it is. Sunday was 50 MPH, yesterday was 45 MPH and today is only 35-40 MPH....in May we call that a breezy day....lol. Charlene

Charlene So at least from Minnesota, Iowa, Ohio, and Kentucky, things are breezy at the very least. Most likely, though, it is WINDY out there! LOL!

Good afternoon all! 82° and sunny now. It was in the low 70's earlier this morning so I went out to get some maintenance work done on the entrance landscape. Worked until was out of juice on all three of my batteries. Too boad, I have more to do. The batteries are recharging but it's going to be too hot to do anything more until late this afternoon or tomorrow morning.
Charlene, congrats on the sewing machine and sorry for the house fire and damage.
Karen what a good feeling when the kitchen stuff is behind you and organized. Bet inspires me too!
Have a great afternoon all!

Good afternoon, This will be short as I want to get outside & also the Laptop battery is running low.
We are pretty much a repeat of yesterday, Mix of sun & clouds. One minute looks like rain & next minute the sun is out. Windy here too so add Va. to the list. Was windy yesterday too. It's 68* but only if you're in the sun & out of the wind. Otherwise sure doesn't feel like 68*
We had more rain last night, even though it wasn't in the forecast & I wouldn't be surprised to see even more today.
I've been to the transfer station this morning aka the dump, stopped by the PO for stamps then went fort a walk with Chelsea. Decided to pull chickweed from my Siberian Iris bed as they will be blooming soon. When I go out I'm bound & determined to finish that darned D'way bed.
I hear you on the leaves Melissa. Pretty much gone now but there are areas I have to rake 2 or 3 times as they blow back.
Charlene, sorry to hear about the fire. But glad they are all OK. Nice you're getting a free sewing machine.
Karen, won't it be nice to get all the seedling stuff out of the house. Mine is almost all planted up. Well, about 1/2, I guess. I still have a lot of foxglove to plant.
That's it for now.

Good late afternoon. It was a canning morning for me while hubby stayed home with the kitchen renovation. We had a good morning and got another 6 dozen or so jars filled.
By the time I got home, all the upper cabinets had been installed and most of the lower ones were in place altho not attached. At the end of the working day the only cupboard not in place is the one that will go over the fridge. So far I'm liking what I see and the space has been left really clean each evening - great work ethics!
So sorry to read about the fire at your DGSs gfs place. Thank goodness they weren't there. And what a nice offer of a sewing machine from your friend - she knows it will be going to a good home! Hope it's a good book Marlene. Glad to see your snow is finally giving way to spring, even if it is with the help of rain Melissa. Summer will come and then we'll all be complaining because it is too hot and probably too dry. Have fun with your yard sale Mary. I'm sure you will be happy when you finally get all your plants out in the garden Karen. I have to admit I like to be organised in the kitchen - so much easier to get supper if I know ahead what I'm doing. 82 and sunny - yes pls. Hope the weather co-operates and you get the driveway bed finished Gayle. Always nice to feel we've achieved our goals.
Have a great evening.

Good early evening.. It was 34°during the night but has warmed up to with a mix of sun and rain. Yesterday we actually saw sun a few times. It was so encouraging that I decided to go to the greenhouses and work. I got all of the soil, containers etc. moved to the greenhouse that I put up last week so I had room to work. By the time I got that done it poured and I got wet trying to get things closed back up so that ended that. I did get a menu done then the organizing bug kicked in. I went to the basement and brought up all of the entrees that I had on my menu from the freezers downstairs and what sides that were down there for the meals. I have 4 shoe box size containers with lids in the upstairs freezer so I decided to organize them. There is now one for entrees, one for sides, one for desserts and one for breads with a list of what is in each. I also have a bin in the bottom that I inventoried and sorted it differently with a lot of small bags that I use all the time placed in one gallon ziplock so they are easy to find. My refrigerator is a side by side and the freezer is very narrow so the plastic containers just fit. I also cooked some navy beans to make bake beans for one of my meals for this week.
UPS is up to their old tricks again. I had a package to return to Amazon that they were to bring me the label and pick up the package. Well they came but instead of coming to the door they went to the deck and slider to my bedroom. That is where the driveway is but actually the back of the house and them just knocking I wouldn't here them. Of course there is a big sign on the front of the garage with a note and big arrow telling them to go to the side for the main entrance. Now they won't come back to pick it up unless I pay them. Got on chat about about 12:30 and was told they would contact the local distribution center a I did finally get a phone call from UPS this morning from the supervisor of the area distribution center. He wasn't too happy about I had to say to him. He was working on getting someone here today to pick up the package but I told him I had a delivery coming so had the package on the side porch where they are suppose to deliver with a big note. He was quite upset that the driver yesterday filed the delivery as met customer. When he heard about the package hanging from the tree limb at the top of the driveway he was even less impressed and have them call me which should be usually within an hour to resolve the problem. That was a 1 PM yesterday. I intentionally didn't go to work yesterday so I would be here when they came to get the package. They did show up today and I heard him so the package is gone and Amazon has notified my the money has been returned.
It stopped raining and the sun came out so went out to the greenhouses to work. Got 100 seedling transplanted and watered plants in the heated greenhouse at the same time. I bottom water so just transfer the flats or pots into the trays filled with water and let nature take its course. The skies started getting dark again so I decided it was time to quit so got everything taken care of the the greenhouses closed up. Came it and there was another downpour. Now the sun is out again.
Charlene, I can't even start to think about baskets yet. What a great offer of the sewing machine for free. So sad to read about DGS's GF and her kids loosing their home. What a great friend she has to get on raising money to help them. The good thing is they weren't home and no one was hurt.
Marlene, thanks for the encouragement that everyday I do something right. I sometimes wonder.
Melissa, sounds like you have some nice plans for your Mom's property with your landscaping ideas. I wish I had the energy to still do things like that. Now maintenance is sometimes is difficult. What a schedule your DD has this week and next.
Mary, good luck getting thing ready for the upcoming garage sale. I am donating a lot this year to the Lions' garage sale.
Karen, I am afraid I would have a serious problem with your DH wanting the room dark. I can't get enough light.
Wendy, hope you get to finish the maintenance on the entrance.
Gayle, I guess a lot of us are having a lot of sun and rain back and forth.
Tasty, they are sure moving right along with your kitchen. They will be done before you know it.
Time to work on dinner.
Enjoy your evening
Bet
