Good morning everyone. It is 37º and feels like 29º and supposed to be sunny and upper 40s later in the day. We never did get the moisture they predicted over the weekend, but we certainly got the bitter cold wind yesterday.
Yesterday morning right after I opened the VSR, I got a text from a friend asking me to go with her to breakfast here in town. It's the 1st time this place has had breakfasts, so we went. They were packed and I don't think they were expecting that. It took 1 hour and 45 minutes to get our food. I was getting a bit hangry by time the food arrived.
I then came home and had good intentions of doing that sewing I've been talking about. My sewing machine would not work. I spent probably 2 hours trying to get that going, but no luck. I bought this used sewing machine in 2001, so I doubt I will take it any where to have it fixed. I can usually fix the old fashioned machines, but this one is computerized and I think the Mother board has died. I may put Curt on the lookout for another used one when he goes to garage sales every weekend with a friend.
Mid afternoon I went to visit Lair since Dale was there, but they were gone getting groceries at the time.
Late afternoon, my 93 yr old neighbor lady called and asked for my assistance getting the vision aid thing set up and give her instructions on how to use it. I spent a couple hours there, but she seemed very happy with her new investment which I helped her order. It will allow her to read her mail and other things she hasn't been able to see since her MD has progressed.
I have no idea what I will do today. Since the sun is shining, it may start with planting up the hanging baskets for my front porch. They will have to remain in the GH for awhile yet.
I heard this morning that Virginia beach had a tornado last night. I hope Gayle wasn't hit with bad weather as well.
Happy Monday to all. Charlene

I've just been reading through yesterday's posts.
Marlene...I t certainly doesn't want to be Spring this year, does it? I hope church and reading helped pass your Sunday. My breakfast killed 2½ hours and the broken sewing machine killed another 2.
Leslie....Your family day that the office put on sounds very impressive! Glad the kids had fun. I bet they slept well Saturday night.
Sandy....I take it you are buying the crib and mattress as a baby gift? We also did that for the 1st child for our kids.
Bette...It sure sounds like you have a wet and cool week in store. I fear this is going to be one of those years that the rain goes all around us although Farmer's almanac predicts wet Spring for us. Geraniums are pretty hardy for cool temps. I haven't seen any dandelions yet.
Dave...It was also very cool here yesterday....in fact it was down right cold with feels like temps in the lower 20s.
Mary...Did any of the girls show up yesterday? I hope you had a good afternoon walk.
Carol...Hopefully not any serious flooding for you yesterday. May this week bring nicer weather to allow you more balcony time.
Karen...Church and the video chat seem like nice things to pass a Sunday. Yay on more buds on the plant table.
Kathy...Glad you found an apartment and since you say 2 bedrooms, I assume your sister will be living with you? It's been very windy here as well.
Melissa....Wow...you did a lot of hard work on Saturday and Sunday. I bet Mom is happy with all that got done in 1 day. Hope you got some R&R last evening.
Gayle...I read that you were getting some rain when you posted, but hope it didn't get worse later. I was thinking of you when they mentioned tornado in VA beach.

Good morning, the sun is shining brightly and the temperature is 50 degrees. It is a bit breezy out there.
Woke at 5:30 did not want to get up but brain started working and could not go back to sleep so I got up and have been working. What a thing to do on a Monday morning. Just a day cleaning planned for the day, and some reading will get tossed in just to make things interesting.
Have a good day.

Good morning. It was 47° when I got up but it has now dropped to 41°. Looks like we may continue to drop until about noon time. We are to just barely break 50° today with more rain. I just went out and emptied the rain gauge and we have received 1 1/2 inches in the past 24 hours. More to come today and through Thursday. Not sure what I will do today. I do need to bake the last cheese cake and clean up the kitchen. I should go out to the greenhouse and bring in what I need to finish the transplanting I need to do and get the rest of my seed planted. Never did water the house plants yesterday so guess these things will keep me busy for a little bit. Also need to do a menu for the week with the meals I have in the freezers and get the food up to the kitchen freezer. I think I have the meals almost organized so I could take an inventory of what I have left. I could still eat for another month at least every day and not have to cook a main meal.
Charlene, I figured you had a busy Sunday when you didn't come back and post yesterday. At least you kept busy and it certainly wasn't a boring day. Sorry about your sewing machine. I don't use mine often but would be lost without it. I purchased mine in the late 60's and it has seen a lot of use and abuse but knock on work it keeps plugging along. A few years I had to put a new belt on it. I wish I could get some weather to work out side. My seedlings are no where near ready for baskets. However, the geraniums I just left in their baskets in the shop last fall are ready to be repotted. Since they moved into the greenhouse the have really perked up. The best they have ever wintered over. I just can't work in the greenhouse when it is only in the 40's out there.
Carol. glad you read that you are seeing the sun. I would love to see it here but guess I need to wait until the weekend.
Gayle, hope your weather didn't get bad last night.
Have a great day.

Good morning. We are starting off May with sunshine but cool and windy. 35 and feels 26. The wind will stick around tomorrow yet. High around 50. I have raking I’d like to do but pointless in the wind. I do have a couple more beds to get leaves off so may be able to do that. Just a little snow left in one bed. Need to work along the ditch fixing my fence and the pond needs draining and cleaning. It will be warmer Wed so will save that job for then. Plenty to do outside. First thing tho I need to go get groceries. No softball game today but then T, W, and Th she does. Next week she has games M, T, Th, F, Sa! Omg! Making up for all the games we had to postpone with the snow. Charlene-Bummer on the sewing machine. I started getting a fan on my seedlings and my cuttings/mature plants yesterday in hopes that someday they can move outside. Lol. I may start potting some of the cannas up too and get them started. Last I checked they all looked great. Well my moms been texting me and my brain is not focusing so will close for now and wish you all a great day!!

It appears we are in for two wet and cold days before the weather might regulate itself around here toward the end of the week. I surely hope so! I haven't been crazy about days in the 50s for highs. Highs in the 40s is not on my BINGO card! Some places could get snowflakes. I hope we are not one of those places. It shouldn't stick anywhere, but just seeing it will be depressing. I can't say I am in the mood to go outside, but I see a bunny chomping on something near one of the flower beds. I may have to head out and shoo it away. Since I chose to write my waiting letter yesterday instead of working in the garage, I may go out later to just tidy up the desk area in "my corner". I have to get garbage and recycling out anyway. I may as well take the time while out there to finish off what I started. I'll do that after the deacon comes and goes. Beyond that, I don't have a clue what I will get into. I made some brownies earlier so I could send some off with the deacon. Maybe that will inspire me to do more kitchen stuff. Nice, Charlene, that you got to enjoy breakfast with a friend. It's too bad the restaurant was caught so off guard by the crowd. I can imagine how that vision aid will be incredibly useful to your neighbor. I'm glad you got it set up for her. Carol, I hate it when I wake up just enough too early and can't go back to sleep. I guess you at least will end up with a productive Monday. Enjoy your reading. It seems like this front is far and wide, Bet. Our weather is very much the same. I might easily steal some of your kitchen plans today. I need an new inventory and could stand to plan some meals also. Well, I am going to get going. Waving to those I missed. Wishing everyone a marvelous Monday!

Good morning all. Spent a big chunk of yesterday emptying everything from the kitchen and the guys are here already and half the lower cupboards are gone already. Yeah!!
Not too much that either of us can do today so once the sheets are out of the dryer I shall get the bed remade and the bedroom tidied up. Then I shall go and shop for what I need for tomorrow's canning session. Hubby had hoped to golf today but with the rain opted out which means I can go out earlier than I had planned. One of us needs to stay here.
Seems like most of us have miserable weather - at least it is not raining here at the moment. We had real heavy rain yesterday but it stopped overnight - more showers expected later but hopefully the worst is behind us. Good to see that you have found an apartment that suits you Kathy. Good luck with getting moved. Another busy w/e for you Melissa but I'll bet Mom is happy with all you got done. That was a long wait for breakfast Charlene. Too bad your sewing machine wouldn't co-operate. Oh, 5.30 is early to get up and start working. Enjoy some well deserved reading time later. You got lots done yesterday Bet. Seems like the geraniums liked being left alone over winter in their baskets.
Have a great day.

Dave, we never really celebrated May Day here. It was just another day.
Karen, a true inventory for my freezers would take a couple of days as I am afraid I haven't been good about keeping them organized. It I can get all the prepared meals inventoried I would be happy at this point. For the past month or more since I haven't been cooking but pretty much just eating meals that are prepared I do have those pretty much organized. At least the meals of each kind are pretty much in the same bin. Have you put out anything to deter the bunny yet. I am concerned about the deer here this year. All my vegetable garden fences need to be repaired if this weather ever changes. Flower beds there isn't much I can do for them. If you inventory and do a menu you will find it much easier to feel like getting meals. I lots of times do the prepping first thing in the morning so all I need to do is cook when it comes dinner time.
Charlene, I forgot to mention, that is a great unit for your neighbor. Those reader done come cheap but they are great for folks that are visually impaired. Over the years our Lions Club has purchased a few of people. If she needs any assistance with such things if there is a Lions Club in the area she might want to contact them.

Bette....I bought a Singer sewing machine with my high school graduation money ($100) and I swear I would be using it yet except I took it to a local guy to clean and tune up and while he had it, the garage he fixed machines in burned down and all was a total loss. Money is no object for my neighbor lady. She was the only child of the guy that owned the bank in town for years. Her husband was a huge farmer and she still owns 3 farms which she rents out and gets thousands of dollars annually...like 6 digits. We do have a local Lions club but they are losing members left and right and dying out quickly. They even quit taking old glasses. When my Mom had one of those vision aid machines, she bought it from MN association for the blind. When she passed, they bought it back for the full amount she paid for it.
Carol...I woke earlier than usual as well. I haven't been bit by that cleaning bug that bit Marlene last week and you today. Maybe you should work a nap into your day.
Melissa...Sounds like lots of softball games in your future. Let's hope the weather co-operates so they aren't postponed again and that it's decent to sit and watch them. Softball games shouldn't involve winter coats....lol.
Karen...You can chase that bunny away, but if he's found something that tastes good, he will be back. Hopefully you can get your area cleaned in the garage today.
Tasty...Sounds like project kitchen re-do is in full swing. I bet you can't wait for it to be completed.
Dave...I remember making May day baskets as a kid and my kids also made them, but somewhere along the line, May Day has become just a distant memory.

Bet, I didn't think to put any Repels All down where I saw the rabbit. It's probably why it was where it was this morning. Free food without the stink of the repellent. I feel for you on the deer problem. I am sure they are hard to dissuade. I definitely find it easier to fix supper when I have planned ahead. Just looking at my sheet of what is available is far better than guessing what I have and what I could make. I don't really make meals ahead like you do, but it is something I should consider. Up until now, it's been "good enough" to just have a sense of what I have on hand. It would be nice to sort of have my own frozen meals. My mind is awhirl now. 🙂

I was here earlier but the thread had not been started yet and now I see 11 replies. Cool but sunny here. Yesterday the wind was gusting close to 50 mph. It isn't supposed to get as windy today. I have 2 friends who have MD. They both get shots in their eyes every so often. One friend is staying the same while the other is getting worse. Bet, your mention of the cheesecake has my mouth watering. Melissa, yes making up all the games that were postponed certainly adds extra to your already busy schedule. "You are undeniably loveable." Marlene-Make sure to refresh your page when you first visit if you feel its odd no one has been here yet. I know sometimes I come here and I know that someone else must have opened and I refresh and there was a thread started hours before but my browser opened it up to where it was when I visited last. Not sure why that happens.
