Good afternoon everyone. I very seldom make it to the VIP and end up posting on chit chat in the wee hours of the morning so here I am now.
Another H&H day here. Hoping it will cool down as there is a lot of yard work to do. Several things need cutting back and a few pulled out.
We sat out under the umbrella briefly and saw a squirrel grab a tomato from the neighbour's plant so maybe that's who is chewing on all of ours. We thought maybe chipmunks or rabbits but not sure now. Like I said in last night's CC you would never think that we live in the city.
Something strange is going on here, we are hearing noises in the wall in our TV room. Rick doesn't think there is any way that something can get in BUT I say "what is it then?" I really don't want him going up in the attic, he is in no shape to do that so will just have to wait and see!!! hmmmmm very strange I say.
Hoping everyone has a peaceful evening, I'm waiting and hoping the temp goes down so I can at least get a bit down outside tonight. We shall see.
Waving to all who follow.

Hello, Donna & all who come later. Could be mice Donna. I don't think you need to go into the attic for that. Looks for a small opening somewhere in the house, like under a sink or if you have a garage, check that. Doesn't have to be a big one & could be man made like for plumbing or wiring. Have you seen any signs of mice anywhere. Put out a couple of traps & see what happens.
I worked for a couple hrs. this morning. It went well & finisher quicker than expected so home before lunch. I've had the sprinkler going ever since. Just now finishing up. I have one more small job to do this week. Tomorrow is supposed to be cooler & cloudy with showers Friday. The plan is to devote tomorrow to the yard (hopefully) & finish up with the last of the work week Friday morning.
That's it from here for now

Hi! It is a very warm day here as well though the humidity is bearable. We're at 88° just now & it is getting cloudy. So, we may be in for showers.
Donna, hopefully your noise issue can be easily sorted out. Does sound like mice & that would freak me out too. Would be nice if this didn't require a trip to the attic by anyone, not you or Rick for sure.
I imgine you enjoyed getting home so much earlier, Gayle. Lots of time then to get your watering & other chores done. You should be able to relax tonight.
Grace, your baking sounds delicious when you are finally able to get back to it. It'll be so appreciated after doing without for awhile.
Sure glad I got outside early this morning. Early by my standards! LOL Got to sit on my favorite rock by the lake & enjoyed my coffee. Could hear kids having a blast but no one in the water then. Hoping it gets cooler this evening so we can sit out there again. Not doing anyhing more today. Ray has decided he'll eat the few leftovers & I'll enjoy something with cucumbers. Actually there's a tomato on my plant that looks to be the shade of pinkish red I like. May just have to go out & get it! Sounds yummy with cheese & the cukes.
See you all later.

Good Early evening, Not much going on here, another humid day and that seems to be all around. I did manage to pull some weeds before going to town. Didn't buy anything. I haven't done much as I didn't sleep the best last night, and I feel like I'm dragging. I too haven' done any baking or anything that means turning the oven on. I hate to say this Donna, but it could be bats. I know when I was down for the hip replacement, I could hear things in the wall also. Its gone now, and don't know what it was. I think bee's also make a lot of noise. good luck with that. Have a great evening.

Sure hope you have a better night. Hard to get going after little sleep.

Good evening. We're just finishing supper and I think DH's uncle could call saying he is on his way any minute, so I need to type quickly.
Work at the museum went fine today. I mostly just sorted things because the curator and another volunteer were working in the office, one of the other volunteers was gathering things to take to her high school class reunion this weekend, and I didn't have the materials I needed to package anything. Oh well, with my sorting today, we can get a good start next week if the curator brings in the materials we need.
I spent a good chunk of the day going back and forth on my Ancestry stuff. Just when I thought I would take time off for the summer, this new DNA match shows up and DH's uncle is coming up with all kinds of things for that side of the family. Guess I'll still be doing some family tree stuff whether I have my membership active or not.
Donna, we had a mother raccoon pull open the Gable vents in our house (a two story) getting her into our attic. She had babies up there. The noise was incredible! I hope you solve your mystery without too much trouble. YIKES! Do you live in my backyard? Our sky just darkened also and we have a thunderstorm warning for the next hour! I'm going to get off here right now and try to come back later.

Well, that turned out to be a dud of a storm. It is still sprinkling, but it never got severe at all.
I hope your plan for the rest of the week goes the way you want it to, Gayle.
Grace, I saw on Facebook that Sue Stetzel shared a cooking spot that one of her team members did for a local television show. It featured No Bake Ice-Box Cakes. I haven't done a lot of baking this summer either, but these ideas seemed to be right up my alley. I pinned a couple of ideas on my Pinterest page. Maybe you could Google "No Bake Ice-Box Cakes" for something different than puddings and ice cream to do.
Your early morning quiet time sounds divine, Angela. I think I'd like a morning like that! So you are having cucumbers also? We have had cucumbers and tomatoes and onions for the second time this week, and it is only Wednesday. LOL! I'm going to have to try something else for the remaining cukes.
Carol, I'm sorry about your weather. August can be a tough month! I hope you can sleep tonight. DH didn't sleep well last night either, and he has a very early morning appointment he has to make so we will be heading to bed early tonight.
Well, if anyone new has popped in while I've been typing I'm just going to wave at you for now.
Have a good night!

I swore I posted on this thread right after Donna started it, hmmm.
Donna I would dread it if I thought I had bats in the house, scared to death of them. Mice in the house don't scare me but sicken me because they are such dirty disgusting creatures.
I only worked just under 8 hours because I was so hot I couldn't force myself to stay any longer. Tomorrow will be even worse.
Since there was the subject of planning next years garden it motivated me to go out and measure the 2 beds that I want to put spring blooming bulbs in. The only problem I will have getting them ready is in the one bed I have fall blooming crocus that I got from Charlene in there and I didn't mark the spot so I hope they are showing by the time I want to plant the bulbs. Do you know when the crocus start to come up?
Just going to watch Big Brother and not sure what I will do after that.

I just saw this and I must be a real scaredy cat because I wouldn't want any creature between the walls. I really hope you find the cause of the noise and an easy, safe solution and please keep us posted. We had to call a week ago to have a yellow jacket nest removed from the second floor outside our bedroom and it's just the beginning of the season for them. Good luck!

Good evening. Spent another day in the kitchen. Made and canned 12 pints of salsa, canned 14 quarts of tomato juice and froze 3 qts, did a gallon of refrigerator pickles, and blanched and froze some peas. I'm getting sick of being in the kitchen all day! Tomorrow dd and I are going to make zucchini cookies and thats all I have planned!!!
Donna-We had a red squirrel in the attic at our old house that somehow got thru the vents and that little sucker made a lot of noise.
Have run the a/c all day today since it was humid. Tomorrow looks like it will be warm again, but then cooling down for the weekend.
Hope its a great night for all.

Kathy, the Fall Blooming Crocus should be showing up shortly. They usually bloom in Sept.
I definitely would rather have mice in the walls (and I have had them) than bats. I think would absolutely panic at the sight of a bat.
Karen, I'm glad you mentioned the Ice Box Cakes. I couldn't get Sue's video to open & I meant to google them but forgot it.

Good evening all. It is extremely humid here tonight, but they say no storms in the forecast...just lots of humidity.
I started reading earlier and got interrupted, but I am finally back. This time of night there should be no one else stopping by unannounced....or I hope so since I am not dressed for company...lol.
I got everything on my mental list done today. In addition to that, DSis stopped by before her chiropractor appointment. After her appointment, she stopped by again and had me go with her to show her where a gal she used to go to country school with in the 40s lived.
Donna...I did read last night that you seem to have the same wild life in your yard that Sandy is battling this year. I think you need someone to come and find out what is between your walls (tell Rick not to do it). IF they are living there they should be paying rent...lol. My guess is also a bat rather than mice. You always see traces of mice because they come out at night and poop where ever they go. Hope you are safe right now...90 MPH winds can do a lot of damage! Angela...gotta tell you that I laughed this morning when you said that family refers to your place on the rock as your throne. Larry always sits in the same chair on the front porch and family say they always look for Larry at his "post".
Carol...praying you get a good nights sleep tonight.
Caden...because of the heat I haven't started up the oven as much as usual, but waiting for cooler weather to do just that. We are OUT OF COOKIES in the freezer and our grandson, Caden is in a panic! LOL
Gayle...bet you are ready for a day off to get some R&R.
Karen...glad your storm fizzled out. Rain is always nice but the storms that go with them sometimes...not so nice.
Kathy...not sure about those fall crocus. Gayle says Sept, but that is in a warmer zone than here. I just got them last fall from Noreen's daughter and she just shared...no instructions. Hopefully they will be up before you plant bulbs.
Mary...hello...sorry you are having problems with posting a pic. Have you found the insert icon? That seems to be most peoples problems and once they find it, it is down hill all the way.
Almonds...I really don't like creatures i the house, but having lived in this old house for 36 years, we have had almost every creature sharing our space o occasion. I remember sitting on the pot once and looking down at the heat run and seeing a squirrel looking back at me...YIPES! lol
Melissa...please take a time out from the kitchen. Zucchini cookies sound intriguing....any flavors added, like maybe chocolate? That is my favorite.
I am off to bed...hoping I didn't forget anyone and wishing you all a good night. Charlene
