Tiny Toad in the Hole-Birdy bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/toad_in_the_hole_84460 Home alone? This recipe for one can be whipped up in minutes. Serve with mash and green beans for an indulgent supper. Serves 1 Vegetable oil, for greasing 1 free-range egg 100 ml / 3½ fl oz milk 50 g / 2 oz plain flour (AP flour) 1 tsp wholegrain mustard 2 chipolata sausages (in the US, breakfast sausages) 4 cherry tomatoes Preheat the oven to 200C/400F/Gas 6. Grease a small ovenproof dish. Whisk the egg in a bowl, then whisk in the milk. Put the flour in a separate bowl, then slowly whisk in the egg mixture. Whisk in the mustard. Put the sausages and tomatoes into the greased dish and pour over the batter. Bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the batter is puffed up and golden-brown.
Note: I discovered in my internet wanderings that there were two versions of toad-in-the-hole. Here in the US, it's usually an egg fried in a hole in the middle of a slice of bread. In the UK, it's sausages baked in Yorkshire pudding batter (pretty much a large popover as we know the recipe.) Many people in the UK are frying their "Yorkies" in the air fryer so lots of recipes are showing up for that. This one was published in the pre-air fryer era. I can remember a cooking for two book I had back in the early 80's that had a recipe for it--my first exposure to the concept! Birdy
