I planted a package of Moonflower seeds in a large new planter using a new bag of soil. (Burpee seeds Miracle Grow soil) I was looking forward to GIANT WHITE FRAGRANT flowers.
I am getting two inch purple morning glories taking over all over the garden and lawn. Must go out daily and pull those invasive sucker out. Has any one had this happen? Wrong seeds! I wrote to Burpee about it and have not heard anything from them.

Sounds like wrong seeds to me. Those darn purple MGs are so invasive it has turned me off of growing MG of any kind.

I never had any luck growing moonflowers. Must be a big mistake, good to know not to pick up purple MM. I have the red and blue and they don't self seed. I guess I'm lucky. Good luck with burpee.

The invasive purple MGs are probably Granpa Ott's. They can come up & just grow wild.
Did you have anything at all come up in the planter?

Yes Gayle, I have things coming up in the planter, garden and lawn. Just not what and where I wanted! Purple morning glories NOT white moonflowers. They are all over the place! So invasive. Everyday when I water I need to pull those suckers out. If I wanted to have invasive morning glories that's what I would have planted. So much for quality control at Burpee seed company. Thanks for your comments everyone, its just the WRONG SEEDS! Feathers

I bought moon flower seeds from burpee as well. So far they are all vines and no flowers...hopefully I get to see some before frost. I also am pulling MGs from different areas in the yard...grrrrr.
I got a packet of bush cucumber seed from burpee....the plants now have at least 12' vines on them...clearly wrong seed. I have grown the bush before and they don't vine like that. Charlene

Strange with moonflower seeds. I have had great results some years, and others not so great. As for those purple morning Glories.....grrrrr....Just when you think you have removed all of them...new ones come out...and that is every year.

Charlene I had the same thing with the bush cucumbers I planted (not burpee). One is the bush and the other is vining everywhere. The bush one has produced the most cucumbers even though it is much smaller.

Charlene, Moonflowers don't bloom here til late summer. I just noticed the first bud on mine yesterday & then it's a race with nature to get seeds before it turns cold.
I have MGs planted in a container next to the kitchen side of the house, Nice healthy vine, no blooms or even a bud.
