Finally it is cooler, well for now anyway. Opened the windows up, get some fresh air, get rid of that recycled air conditioned air. But the mosquitos are terrible. Guess trade one thing for another. A good weekend to all.

I'm new here, so thought I'd see what other midwesterners are experiencing! It's been hot and humid, much more so than usual, all summer here. It's muggy ugly out there again this morning with the 60% chance of thunderstorms promised. We need rain badly, so I'll welcome the storms if they arrive. We're supposed to get lower temps next week, and since it's been 90 or more every day, I'm ready!
I need to deadhead my petunias in the worst way, but it's just been too uncomfortable to go outside for the past 2 days. They're on their own until I can go outside AND breathe at the same time!

Good Morning Janet, really like your smiley face. Good to see you this morning. Our windows are still closed, the air is just too heavy for DH. We finally got some rain, not a whole lot yesterday but more during the night, I haven't check the rain gauge yet. Its 72* and going to a high of 82*, with rain thru the morning and clearing this afternoon. No plans for today, I need to get off my bu!! and do something, can't just sit and do nothing, makes me fat and lazy, plus I can't sleep if I only sit. I did do a lot of booth things, I do think I'm all caught up now, trying to keep records straight is hard. I do have to say Ray does most of the bookwork, I just keep go over it and usually its OK. I do the tagging of items.
Lair, Glad you got a good night sleep and it wasn't your ghost friend. Only vegs and rice for supper is good, glad you got some. Must be Tim just likes shrimp. Not me, don't touch them.
Angela, That is scary when you have to pull over when its raining so hard, I bet other people just passed you by. So what was the name of the movie you seen? I haven't been to a movie in 3 years, nothing I really wanted to see. Hate the language, and why do they have to use it.
gKids, Glad you got some rain and now you can plant those tiger lilies. I have had 2 hip replacements, both hips are new now and I'm doing great, wish I would of had it sooner. This was in 2013.
Grace, that's a hot job canning, I bet you were sweating. Your cataract surgery will be a piece of cake. I just wish I could see now, what I could see when I first had it done. Wearing glasses to see up close, and now for driving. Darn.
Jan, Glad to hear Allen is doing good during his clemo. I do hope that continues. So do you really want a job now?
Auntcon, Hi visit us again we like newcomers. Yes I had to stop once because my flashing were on and I didn't know how to stop them. I had to read the book, I bet those people whose house I was in front of, wondered what was going on.
I forgot, I had to chase the chickens out of the yard 4 times yesterday, once in the back yard, and if they get into my tomatoes, I'm really going to be upset. I don't know if the guy is home or not. Sure wish we would of brought that house.
Have a great day and enjoy.

Good Morning retteacher, I can tell what you did for a living. Welcome, and join us anytime. We love newcomers. I'm Carol and I'm from Lower Michigan. Yes this hot humid dry weather is for the birds. But we did get some rain yesterday and more last night so I doing the happy dance. Its also cooler but the same old humidity is around. When its hot and so humid I do my yard work in the morning, usually only about 2 hours, but then it depends on what I do. The other day I ran the big weedeater and I was done after 45 minutes. That took the air all out of me.
Well come again and let us know your Name and where you are from.
Again WELCOME.

Morning everyone. Right now it is 72 with expected high of 82 so the temp will be much better than the 90's have been but I don't think the humidity is going to go down much so will still be hot and sticky again today.
No planting the tiger lilies for me today. Hubby is getting ready to head out for a car show and I'm planning on having a "me"--well mostly--day and just puttering around. There's always tomorrow....
retteacher I have 2 hanging baskets of petunias that I haven't deadheaded now for a couple days because of the weather, managed to water but too hot to stay out there. Need to get to them soon.
Carol your other avatar over at TOH mentioned the city you lived in. Every time I saw you post I had to look twice as there is a city in IL with the same name. Funny how some names just sort of "travel" from state to state. We noticed that a lot in our travels.
Lair I finished my profile so if you want to know about me, check it out. :)
Waving to everyone else that's here and others that may stop by today.

Good morning. It's cooler here this morning. Going to mow the lawn in a bit. Got a really good rain the other night - about 3 inches.
The car is working great. Haven't had any more issues, so must be getting better with all the bells. I'll get the plates next week, and be all legal again.
Cherry tomatoes are doing well. I've given some to two of the neighbors so far. Have to pick again today. I started some Strawberry Spinach to see if they will produce again. They do taste better if they stay on the plant a little longer. I like them on Vanilla ice cream. If they do, I'll have to take a picture. Thought I had done that before, but none showed up.
Work is going well. Had 24 hours this week and 19 next wek. Also, got a little raise the first of August, so that all helps.
Better get busy. Have a good day.

Good Morning to everyone, good to see so many here but I guess I'm a little later than usual. I need to say welcome to the midwest. You don't need to live in the midwest to post just have to write like one. It is 71* and overcast but the sun is trying to burn thru. They forecast sunny later on and for the next few days. Now if the humidity just stays down. That is what raises he!! with me being on oxygen. Not sure what I'll be doing today since I have been afraid to plan anything without watching the weather report first. There is always weeding and do some edging around things where Andy can't get close enough with the mower. There is always the driveway that could use some spraying with round up. I will have to see how much ambition I have when I am done here.
Janet, you are right about the mosquitos being bad. I got my first bite this summer when I went out and picked the garden yesterday.Retteacher, welcome, you are right about things waiting until the weather is better. I have tested the theory and it is true, everything waits.
Carol, yes, Tim and I both love shrimp but they are not near as good here as they were in Mexico. There, we would buy a 1 gal. pail everyday and take back to the house to eat. They are so much better fresh and only cost 200 pesos.(that's 2 bucks)
gkids. I see you don't live that far from me. I live just west of Dubuque a couple miles. I am glad you are joining us here. Jan is also lives a few miles from me and Mary bwatcher lives about an hour north. Grace and Janet live just south of me so we all have about the same weather.
Leroy, I am sure happy you are liking the new job and congrads on the raise. If I remember right a raise was the reason you left your old employer, right? Angela, looks to me like you are enjoying this board. I see your name all over the board. Lots of interests and things to say. Glad to have you here.
Mary in MI, I hope you are doing well. Just set back and relax until you feel rested. You have ben through a lot the past few days.
Jan, I need to warn you about smells. If Allen is anything like Tim he will get a very sensitive nose. Always smelling something and wanting to spray Fabreeze the whole house. If I say I can't smell it then there is an argument so I just say I don't know what it is. I hope these treatments go well for both of you. Tim will be at the half way point on Monday.
Saying HI to Sandy, Snow, and Alma. I need to go because me fingers are getting sore. You all have a good day. Lair

Morning all! To those new to reading this, the Mid-West has extended quite a bit North since this group started together! 😊 Nice that they put up with me.
Not terribly much new in my neighbourhood. We may live at the lake but it is a quiet area. For some reason there hasn't been much boating going on or many Sea-doos. We did watch a fellow in an under powered boat trying to tow someone on a tube. I just happened to glance out to see he had swamped his boat & it was everyone in the water pushing the boat to shore! A bit of excitement that day! Likely more an inexperienced boater but all turned out well.
Carol, you asked which movie we saw. It was Bad Moms. Not a terribly good movie but it was an outing with my girls. We try to get together occasionally. With my gdaughter working 12 hour shifts & the life of a young person, it's hard to arrange things.
Little going on here. So, will keep my rambling to a minimum & finish my coffee before getting going here. I can easily stay online for hours as I discovered the other day. This site works so well I get carried away! Yes, Lair I'm everywhere here! LOL
See you all later. Have a good one.

Lair, your comment about seeing me everywhere reminded me of somethin we unearthed when we were changing the siding on an old house we'd bought in 1975 & which was built in 1893. It was a two story house & when Ray removed the original siding towards the peak he found this saying written in pencil on the brown paper underlay "Cows faces & fools' names appear in the strangest places"! The builder had signed his name below this. LOL So, there you go! You'll be seing me popping in here & there. I've really missed an active forum. When I first got online in 1999 I joined a Canada & Friends group where there would be 200+ posts daily. Unfortunately, there might be 6 or less posts there these days. I suspect everyone has wandered off to Face Book or elsewhere.

Good morning all Been to the grocery store for the week and back already and most of it put away too. I'm beginning to think that I am getting the side effects of Allen's chemo & radiation! Had a headache and felt crappy all day -- we didn't even go out for supper last night. Still feel a bit yucky today.
Last night our oldest daughter stopped by--neither Allen nor I can figure out what her problem is but she was on a rant about the fact that Allen is not to be driving/thus not working because of the cell in his brain. We think the problem is with the fact neither one of us is working that means she can't come begging her father for money.
I turned off the a/c this morning and opened some of the windows too. Gotta air out the house occassionally ya know. It feels good. Not much else planned for the day so will play it by ear. tomorrow JM is coming up to help take the last 4 steers to the sale barn. Then there won't be any ready until after the first of the year. If Allen starts losing ground to the cancer then those steers will be going early and let someone else finish them out.
Well you all take care & have a goo day/weekend Jan

It was a lot of fun & some of the people had met up also for a weekend get together. those were the 'good ole days'

It would be so much fun to meet up with cyber friends. A number of years ago a group from the forum I mentioned met up when a gal from Australia was on a tour of Canada with her hubby. I was planning on flying to Ontario to be part of this but my plans changed when my surgery got scheduled. Luckily for me one of the fellows videoed the various events & sent me a DVD.

Afternoon everyone a pleasant 85 degrees here today not bad lots better than earlier in the week. The humidity is lower today but back next week they say we didn't get much rain n 20 hundreds. And 30 miles one way got 3 inches and the other direction about 25 miles got 2 inches we are just in a hole that doesn't get the moisture. Pulled my onions up not much time speak of this year and either are the potatoes dug half of them and will have to get the rest the vines are dead and dried up way early this year. Most of my robins have left for the year too and the barnswallows and martins are getting ready also for they have been gathering. The only thing that produced this year in the garden was the early stuff the cabbage, broccoli and now the tomatoes and pickles have to pick those tomorrow. The rest is s a bust. Oh I do have some nice peppers too.
Janet the mosquitos are horrible here also.
Retteacher my my flowers are awful this year also, didn't water and the weeds took over in a couple of the beds, just didn't have the time I needed. Will cut them all back soon so I don't have to look at them anymore and hope for the best next year
Grandkids hope you have a pleasant day
carol glad you got things done for the store area. I am so ready for fall. I don't know what is going on with me for I can't seem to get motivated in the evenings anymore after I get home from MIL and work I am beat.
leroy lucky you to get rain and also congrats on the new wheels enjoy them
lair I hope you got your weeds sprayed. I need to do that also but scared t with the puppy around for she gets into everything. Had to call the vet the other day also. Was our grilling and she was in the house so went to get the meat and I saw a dead bat under the grill I suppose one of the outdoor cats killed it so I went to take the meat and came out with my gloves to despose of the bat and the head was gone thought one of the cats ate it for Jade was in the house. So about 2 in the morning the Jade is throwing up I thought oh no the plastic she ate might be turning on her now so got up to see and on the spread by my feet was the bats head how she got it I don't know unless the cat took it off and didn't want it and so she ate it so calling the vet in the morning to see if there was anything I neede to do she said no for she just had her shots in March.
Angelea i I always wanted to live by the lake
Jan I been feeling the same way all week don't know what it is for sure. Hope Allens treatments go good.
well need to do something today so will go out and

Better late than never. Got down her to Valerie's house about 12:30 and then went out for dinner. Hubby went to do his shopping and us girls went to the Botanical Garden. We spent 3 hours in there. I didn't take a lot of pictures because there was just too much to see. They just finished remodeling awhile back. It was amazing.
We ordered pizza for supper and are now watching the Olympics.
