Good morning All...................
64 this morning and mid 70's later. Earlier in the week we were to have a beautiful weekend. Yesterday it rained on and off and sounds like today won't be any better. Will put a damper on the weekend events. Oh well.....
I did manage to get the lawn mowed despite the rain. Most of it, i had to mow when it was wet but it had to be done. I do have to admit that it did turned out ok. Someone was looking over my shoulder. LOL
Just going to get groceries this morning and then play it by ear. Have a good day All................................larry

Good morning! Blessedly, we have a back door cold front off the Atlantic lowering our temps for today. We'll be back in the blast furnace tomorrow. How is everyone today? After I post this, I'll go out and water what I can; it's so dry. I didn't plant any vegetables this year; glad I didn't. Even the tomatoes at the farm stand aren't as delectable. Corn is much smaller, too. Sigh! Since it's going to be cooler today, DH will cook thick pork chops on the grill. I'll figure out sides after I go to the market. Did anyone catch the meteor shower? We were up and out yesterday around 4am, but we saw nothing. I checked early this morning, but it was too cloudy. I have seen them before; it was a great show! Waving to all! Enjoy your day!

Good morning Larry and all who follow.
Another hot humid day. We did get a couple of thunderstorms yesterday and they watered everything but it brought the heat down a little then went right back up. This weather gives me no energy. I did get the lawn mower back and just might mow even if it's wet out. Wendy it's the weeds in the back yard where they dug last summer. The weeds are about 1ft tall or more and it looks terrible. I can't even stand looking at the back yard! LOL!
Nothing new and exciting in my world. No critters last night.
Larry &Charlene have a good time at the corn festival.

Good morning all. Rain today? It looks iffy. We really could use it. Larry, sorry about the weather putting a damper on the weekend activities. I know when our Lilac Festival activities are coming up, we keep a hopeful eye on weekend weather.
I was hoping to catch a glimpse of the meteor showers but it was too cloudy here too. I think the Midwest was supposed to have the best view.
Sandy, you got rain yesterday? Wow. I hear you with the weeds and getting disgusted with looking at it. Hope you can get the mowing accomplished.
Errands for me today. My brother and wife are visiting from out-of-state at Mom and Dad's this weekend so I will be getting together over there as well.
Have a great day all.

Good morning. 69 cloudy and quite foggy this morning. We are to have T storms off and on all day. Didn't get here to post yesterday. It was hot with a heat index of 107 which is unheard of here. I more or less puttered around yesterday. Didn't really start to feel like myself until about 4 yesterday. Thursday's heat sure zapped me.
I did manage to get the light post finished and a couple of more little brown jugs but still nothing done on the side yard. The pots have been sitting there empty for 2 weeks now. Ran the sprinkler for 4 hours yesterday as things were looking rather sad. Got everything on the side porch and both greenhouses watered. I moved all the plants that were still alive in one greenhouse out onto the deck. All I need to do is empty a few dead 6 pks and get all the racks out of there and it will be ready to take down. Still have a few plants in the other one yet. Am thinking of leaving that one up until fall rather than taking it down and putting up the 5 x 6' since it is so late. Didn't water the back deck and if it doesn't start raining soon I will go do that.
First thing this morning I need to get next door and clean. Have guests coming in today for a week. Then I absolutely need to clean my house. A couple of weeks ago I invited my neighbors for a smoked pork loin dinner this weekend. They finally accepted yesterday. Now I need to rush to get things done. Just finished making the brine and waiting for it to cool so I can get the loin in until tomorrow morning.
When I finish cleaning will make the transfer station run with the garbage from next door and then stop at the market to pick up a few things I need for the house and also for dinner tomorrow night.
I think that will pretty much keep me busy all day.
The scrooge in me finally gave in and I uncovered the central air and turned it on. May be the only day it runs all summer.
Have a great day.

Good morning everyone. Woke to thunder and a very dark sky and only got a sprinkle that last a minute. Another day of high humidity and pushing us into the high 90s. Getting cabin fever just like I do in winter. LOL. Have a great day

Good morning, all! We have yet another day of high temps and high humidity. I stuck my head out onto the screened porch and brought it right back inside. ICK! We are promised lower temps next week, so I hope the humidity lowers right along with the temperature. We're supposed to have thunderstorms, too, and we need the rain badly. So I hope it rains most of the day! But popup storms are the norm here in August.
I need to get out there to deadhead petunias, but it is just too uncomfortable. Besides, I like to be outside and breathe at the same time! I think the petunias will have to be on their own for a couple of days.

Good morning. We are to be cooler today and tomorrow (lower 80s), but the humidity is sticking around until late tomorrow. There is also supposed to be opportunities for scattered showers throughout the day and into the tonight. Cooler with rain is not bad considering what we have been having. Although, I really cannot wait for the humidity to take a hike!
I am going to go outside in a little bit to see how much rain we got overnight. I was awake round 3:30 and heard a whoosh of rain. I got up to look outside and there were puddles in the street, so I am guessing we got quite a bit. If we aren't careful, it might just start to green up around here. ;) That would be nice for a change since we haven't seen green lawns since May.
As I mentioned somewhere before in a post to Charlene, our community is also having a celebration today. It is basically a street fair going on uptown, but today there will be a parade that steps off from the church parking lot across the street from us. I don't think we will go outside to watch, but will probably keep an eye on things from the kitchen window. Nothing else really planned today. DH will go up tonight and help check ID for the adult beverage area. The historical society that is the parent organization of the memorabilia museum where I volunteer will receive a portion of the proceeds of the beverage sales, so that will be a good thing.
Glad your mowing turned out okay, Larry. Happy shopping today!
Ann, I am glad you are having a small respite from the summer heat. It's too bad that it will be so short. I tried again to see something in the sky last night. All I managed to see were some lovely clouds rolling by. It was kind of weird lighting last night because the dark sky almost looked blue compared to the clouds around 11 pm. This just wasn't the meteor shower year for us. For as cloudy as it has been at night, I'd have thought we'd have had more rain. Guess that is why I am not in charge of the weather. 8-)
The weather this summer has been energy-draining, Sandy. I guess it is good that you got some rain yesterday, even if it did heat right back up again. :-S Nice hearing that you didn't have any critter troubles overnight.
Wendy, I hope you and your family have a nice visit today. It is always nice when we can spend time with family we don't see all that often. I love it when my brother comes to town.
Your weekend sounds busy, Bette. It would have been nice if your neighbors had given you just a smidgen more notice, eh? They probably have no idea the kind of work you are needing to put into your meal. Good luck with that.
Robin, you called that cabin fever thing perfectly! That is exactly how I have been feeling. I can go out easier now than in the winter, but I sure don't want to. Staying inside for this long has really been unheard of for me in a long while. I heard this morning that we have now had 21 days in the 90s this year. Last year, we had 3.
Welcome to the VIP, Retteacher! It is good having you here with us. This summer weather really has been one for the record books, hasn't it? I don't recall in recent memory a period of time this extensive where the humidity has been so awful. You are right, breathing is a wonderful thing! If we can't be outside and to that, guess outside will have to wait.
Guess that is it for me this morning. I want to check the rain gauge, get something to eat, and then decided where we will watch the parade. DH is waffling on that also. He's been outside and says it is horribly humid. Of course it is. Same old stuff, just a different day! LOL! Wishing you all a super Saturday.

Good morning. I'm relaxing at dh's moms, watching the olympics. Dh took the 2 middle kids to a gun safety field day today but he only stays for 30 minutes. They did an online textbook course, then they have to do a field day showing they know how to be safe with firearms. This is required for deer hunting, and dd has to have it this year or she couldn't hunt (b/c she will be 14 by deer season). The funniest part is we live up north and couldn't get in to a field day up there. Since we knew we'd be in the Minneapolis area this weekend we looked and lo and behold got lucky. The courses always fill up quickly. Once he's done there he's going to go play disc golf with his brothers. Little dd and I will just hang out here together as my mother in law is working. We will do some shopping later once dh gets done disc golfing. I'm content to sit on my butt and watch olympics! lol I do have my 5th load of laundry going. Did 4 yesterday. Only about 3 to go since we had lots of towels and bedding as well.
We weren't able to see any of the meteor shower since it has been cloudy here at nights. Dh did see a few the first night we camped.
Thinking of Lily today and prayers all goes well with her move.
Hope everyone has a great Saturday.

Good morning everyone! Dark and rainy her this morning. Thunder storms are in the forecast. The much needed rain is a blessing. The poor grass and plants had to fend for themselves while I was away. Too bad the weeds did not disappear....!
I am not sure what I will be doing today. Might see if I can get together with my DD. The water polo tournament is cancelled because of the weather. I know my DGS was disappointed. He loves the sport, and I like to watch him play. I nothing materializes, it will be knitting for me.
Larry, we all like rain, but please...not on the weekend!!!! Ann, yes it's hot or cold...no in between.... Sandy, weeds seem to be thriving this year. I did see a critter last night...a baby skunk. It was Zorro who alerted me that there was an intruder on the premises...hmmm. Sunshine, I'm sure you will have a great family get together. Have fun. Bette, sounds like you are the official energizer bunny....again. Ladybird, who ever heard of cabin fever in the summer....Yes....with the hot weather this summer who wants to stick their nose outdoors. Rett, looks like weather is the topic of the day. Karen, it is nice to have community celebrations. Too bad I missed ours this year. Glad that more funds will be available to continue with the good work at your memorabilia museum. So nice to keep history for the future generations.
That is about it. Have a great day!

I found this from Molly on the VIP and VSR explanation thread. I hope she doesn't mind if I share it here.
"I hope this works, between all of the work going on outside and my CRS I am not sure I even remember my sign in or password. I am so happy that we have a new home, after all of these years I would hate to lose touch with everyone. We are in the middle of a terrible heat wave, the lawn needs mowing and I am not sure I will be able to even last long enough to get that done today...so I am heading out now to start it. Have a wonderful day everyone!!!"

Good morning. I have been reading some posts for a while, but won't remember what I read, or at least who it was that posted it, for very long.
Larry, sorry the weather isn't really cooperating. We have that problem with our Rose Festival in the spring, but it usually turns out ok.
I am also thinking of Lily, and hope all goes well and she adjusts to this new chapter in her life.
Rett, I, too, have petunias that need to be deadheaded, along with others, and weeds to pull and grass to mow. But if it isn't hot it is raining here, so I guess it will all wait. If things go to seed I will just gather them for next year.
Charlene, I know lifting a 32 lb toddler has aggravated the sciatica, and the car trips just make it worse, sometimes almost unbearable. I told my doctor that. It will get better, though. This is the worse it has been in a while. Usually it is just a day or so. When she did the "knee jerk" test, she kept hitting the left knee and it barely moved, if at all. She commented that it wasn't moving like the other. I guess that was why she gave me all the meds to get me through it and get the inflammation down. If I had not already had an appointment for my thyroid check I would not have gone to her for just the back/leg pain.
I need to do some unemployment stuff and then get busy with something else.
Have a good day.

Good morning.
The high today will only be 82º. I never thought I would say only to 82 but after the heat we have been having this summer it is an only.
Last night I suited up against the gnats and went out to start weeding. I got 2 - 18 gallon totes heaping full of weeds just from the small area on the north side of the house. I had heavy cardboard down with 4 inches of woodchips on top but the cardboard must have disintegrated. I will add another 3 inches of wood chips once I have it filled with hosta and other shade loving plants, Hopefully I can have that done or close to done by the end of next summer.
When I get off here I will go start another area of weeding in the back yard.
I also want to do some baking today.
I forgot about the meteor show.

Good morning! Sounds like we are some of the lucky ones with comfortable weather. Our highs are in the low 70° if I have converted our Celsius correctly! 😊 Never got outside yesterday as it was just too cool with a brisk wind off the lake. Such a difference from what so many of you are experiencing. I feel for all of you with the high humidity. Not my favorite either.
My thoughts are with Lily. Can only imagine how she is feeling leaving her home of so many years. Know that we are keeping you close to our hearts this weekend, Lily and wishing you only the very best with your move & soon into your own apartment.
Not a lot happening here today. No festivals to attend. Just the old hum-drum routine as usual. That will be fine after having company for 10 days. After my lousy night last night, I may not be moving too fast. Usually I read when I can't sleep but last night I watched a couple 1/2 hour shows of Grace & Frankie. They are quite funny & I needed to keep my laughing to a minimum! 😊
Enjoy your day as best you can.
