I have made many of these recipes. You control the amount of salt and sugar as well as the spices. I usually increase the spices but it all up to your taste.
Homemade Chili Cheese Hamburger Helper:
Hamburger Helper, Make your own groceries
Servings : 4 Ingredients
1 pound ground beef 1 cup hot water 2 cups milk 1 1/2 cups elbow macaroni 1 tablespoon corn starch 1 tablespoon chili powder 1 teaspoon garlic powder 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon sugar 1/2 teaspoon paprika 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
Directions
Brown ground beef drain Add the rest of the ingredients except the cheese. Bring to a boil, turn down to simmer, cover and cook 12-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until macaroni is cooked. At the last few minutes stir in the cheese and cover until the cheese has melted.
You can premake the seasoning in little packets with the macaroni ready to use.
I'll be back with more as I move these into my recipe program.

Bet--I think I found something like this online a long time ago. It's a great idea. I went through and broke down the seasonings into 1-serving size measurements for just myself. I also had the following in my recipe files from Taste of Home. The original recipe for 4 is at the site link. I cut it in half for myself. Reading the comments below the recipe is hilarious. Someone got really bent out of shape because they said it should have been called goulash. She missed the point--having everything together in one place for a quick supper. Doesn't matter what it is called! Birdy Dinner in a Bag (2 servings)
